PrinceWatercress plays Sly 2: Band of Thieves - Part 4 of 49

In this entry, we get our first look at Dimitri, then we sneak into his office and bug it with an obvious fake painting that has a picture of Sly Cooper on it. Hey, the fake painting totally makes all the sense in the world!

The Smoke Bomb, when equipped, allows Sly to drop a smoke bomb, temporarily confusing enemies and obscuring their vision of you, allowing for a quick getaway.

To equip a gadget, press Select to go to the Gadget Grid. Select the gadget you want, then press L1, L2 or R2 to assign the gadget to that button. You can assign up to three gadget at any given time.

You may notice that there is now a yellow gauge at the bottom of the indicator on the upper-left corner. This is a special energy meter for gadgets and special techniques, and as you use them, this gauge will empty. To refill it, pick up health power-ups.

Each episode of the game has its own set of gadgets to buy, and the further into the game you are, the more they are going to cost.

Don't forget that you can also press R3 to look for missions in conjunction with L3 to look for jobs and also see what the names of the jobs are.

At this point, you'll start seeing guards with flashlights out in the open. If you get caught in the flashlights, you will get shot and the enemy will not miss. They take a little more effort to defeat than smaller enemies, and they can also carry better treasures to sell on ThiefNet than their smaller counterparts.

Also, enemies will start showing up on the rooftops from this point forward. Be careful where you're going as well as when.

Follow Dimitri

You'll find out that Dimitri has ordered his men to ring the bell on the nearby boat when the coast is clear. When you strike the bell by attacking it, Dimitri will come out.

Stay to the rooftops as much as possible, and press L3 often. This will allow you to keep tabs on Dimitri without being spotted very much. Also, don't let Dimitri get too far, either. That is an automatic fail along with getting caught by either nearby guards or Dimitri. When you reach the water tower, get to the nearby lamp post and climb up it without being seen by Dimitri. You'll see Dimitri type a code in on a keypad and access the nightclub's water pipe.

When you go to the door, you'll see a Murray icon instead of a Sly icon. You'll have to go back to the safe house to play as Bentley, but you can now choose between Sly and Murray whenever you want.

Bug Dimitri's Office

For this mission, you'll need to take a forged painting with a bug outfitted into it by Bentley and replace another painting in Dimitri's office with the bugged painting to listen in on Dimitri's personal communications. Approach the painting and press Circle to take it, but take care not to get hit by enemies, as you will lose the painting if you do.

Go to where the beacon for the job is and press Circle at the window where the Sly icon is. Sly will open the window and enter the building. Bentley will tell you that you'll need to break open an air vent to get into Dimitri's office, as the door to the office is locked from the inside.

The rats with brooms are new enemies, and they only show up here.

If any enemies throw rocks at you, that means they are able to see you from a low altitude. These rocks will do damage, so stay out of sight so you don't get nailed with small rocks. From there, you'll need to go past some lasers and then sneak across a narrow ledge to get to another platform, then walk across a rope and sneak behind a waterfall to get to the air vent.

Open it, then follow the path and drop down to enter Dimitri's office. Look around before you do anything...because you'll find the vault for this episode.. Since you have all thirty clue bottles collected, you can walk up to it, press Circle and then input the code Bentley hits you. Use the Control Pad to move Sly's hand to the button you want to press, then press X to put in the number. Inside the first vault is the Knockout Dive move, which is just like the Dive attack from the first game, and it does use special energy. There is an aerial version of the move from the first game that can also be performed if you press Triangle in mid-air; thankfully, that does not use special energy.

Now that you're in Dimitri's office, press Circle at the painting to make the swap. You're done here. Go through the nearby door where the Sly icon is, then leave this area the same way you came in.

If you're unable to open the vault after seeing it. the game will give you a marker telling you where it is, so you can return to it when you find all the clue bottles.

If you can make it to the safe house with the real painting without getting attacked and losing the painting automatically, you can sell it on ThiefNet for a good amount of coins. There are other treasures on podiums that you can pick up throughout the episodes, and these will be mentioned when the time comes.
