PrinceWatercress plays Sly 2: Band of Thieves - Part 1 of 49

This was a while coming, but it's time to take on the second game in the Sly Cooper game. Compared to the first game, this is longer, bigger and more action-packed, and there's going to be a lot to see and do. Not surprisingly, this game is viewed more favorably than the first game and is considered the best game out of the four by people who have played the entire series.

Tutorial

The game starts in the Museum of Natural History in Cairo. Sly (who you'll be playing as here) will be near some of the exhibits, while Bentley will be down in the basement. If you want, go and destroy whatever you can to get some coins. You'll need the coins later, this time as in-game currency.

As you're about to see from playing this game, this game is quite different from the first one. No longer are you playing "Crash Bandicoot with a stick;" the music is a more fitting, orchestral noir-like soundtrack that better encapsulates what it is like to sneak around and do things under people's noses and isn't some sort of techno-pop like in the first game, the levels are free-roaming, the hub world of each chapter of the game is the level instead of just a 1990s 3D platformer style-hub, there are more things that you can do and interact with, and Bentley and Murray will be in the field with you and become playable characters for times when Sly's skills aren't going to be enough. Thankfully, I will mention everything when the time comes.

To get out of this room, you'll need to jump onto the drum in the center of the room to use it as a trampoline that will take your the dinosaur bones, then make your way to the switch near the tail. This will allow you to let Bentley in via the service elevator. He will disable the security system to allow you to go further into the museum and allows Murray to catch up with you later on.

If you look at the portraits in the museum, you can find some art of the Fiendish Five from the first game as well as what looks like some concept art. It's also hard to see at first, but you'll see art of what appears to be Dimitri, who we will meet soon in Episode 1. You can also smash some more things up for coins, which I recommend doing.

The guards won't be able to see you, and you'll never be able to come in contact with them, so don't worry about them.

If something has blue sparkles, you can interact with it with the Circle button.

You still have the rope walk, rope slide and spire jumps from the first game. Jump and hit Circle near ropes to walk on them.

On the other side of the rope, you'll have to wait for Murray. Go ahead and smash things for coins as you wait. Murray will eventually make his grand entrance smashing his way down through the ceiling. He will lift up the gate, and you can pass through once he gives the all clear. Once you're on the other side, he will throw a statue at the statue on the other side of the next rope so you can unlock the door.

On the other side, however, you won't find the Clockwerk parts that the Cooper Gang is after. Instead, Inspector Carmelita Fox and her new assistant Constable Neyla pop out of some Egyptian coffins. Carmelita is convinced the Cooper Gang took them, but Neyla is not convinced, saying that another group of criminals known as the Klaww Gang may have gotten them. Sly tries to escape, but Carmelita catches him and starts chasing him while shooting at him with the shock pistol

From here, you'll be running towards the camera while avoiding getting shot by Carmelita's shock pistol. Bentley and Murray join Sly, but soon have to diverge to get the van ready. From here, your ability to walk on ropes and jump on the tops of buildings are put to the test. You'll also have to avoid getting shot by Carmelita in case you want to destroy things on the buildings for coins. You'll soon be able to slide down to the van and end the tutorial.

On the way back from the museum, it is established that someone is trying to bring Clockwerk back to life, and Sly feels that Neyla's failure to be convinced that Sly Cooper has the part is either a slip of the tongue or a revealing of the truth. We get reacquainted with Sly's origin story and the end of the first game, and Sly becomes set on making sure his future is not a repeat of his past.

Sly Cooper

Since we're starting right where the first game left off (more or less), there isn't anything left to be said about Sly at this point. Sly Cooper is a young master thief in a long line of master thieves, and if there is something to be stolen, he is the one who is able to do it. Whether he has to slink across narrow ledges, walk or slide down ropes, or stand on the pointed tip of a lamp post or lantern, Sly Cooper can do it all...and he'll have to in order to see to it that Clockwerk doesn't come back ever again.

Unlike the first game, Sly has a few new tricks up his sleeves. You'll be able to pickpocket enemies before finishing them off from behind in one fell swoop...and that's just the start. You'll get more abilities for him - and the other members of the gang - along the way.
