PrinceWatercress plays Ka-Blooey - Part 3 of 25

In this entry, we meet the other enemy and also get introduced to a few more game mechanics while also being forced to think a little more carefully compared to the levels we've played so far.

Level 16

Place both the large bomb and the small aerial bomb on the slot tiles in the upper-right corner one tile to the right. Enter the center teleporter. Place small bombs on the upper left, lower left and bottom center tiles of the slot tile rectangle, with the two large bombs on the top center and upper right tiles and the medium bomb on the lower right tile. Detonate the small bomb in the lower left tile and move down. Go right, detonate the small aerial bomb, then move up and into the nearby teleporter. Detonate small bomb and move right.

Level 17

The spinning circle with the red dial is a spinner. It will randomly knock you into one of the four cardinal directions - up, down, left or right.

The small gray circle with the black circle underneath is a large mine. Its explosion has more range than that of a small mine.

The pyramid like things are temples. Temples will nullify bomb blasts and severely limit the ranges of explosions, and that is the one advantage of temples that you'll need to look into and see how it works in order to complete some puzzles.

The brown ball enemy is another enemy you'll need to avoid, and it will usually turn left when it reaches a dead end. You can run under it as it bounces, but you'll need to time it right if you want to do things that way or else you're getting hit and losing a life.

The red robot is much like the blue robot, but it will explode as soon as it makes contact with a bomb or a mine. Be careful where you move the red robot.

Move right into the teleporter. Send the blue guy into the small mine in the lower right corner. Detonate the large bomb near the right temple and move right. Detonate the small aerial bomb in the south end and move left. Detonate the small bomb near the left temple and move up. Send the red guy into the large mine.

Level 18

Send the blue guy into the small mine in the upper right corner. Move both the swell bomb and the small bomb to the right of it on the slot tiles one tile to the left. Detonate the small aerial when the nearby swell bomb is large, then move right.

Level 19

Detonate the small bomb in the upper right corner and step left. Detonate the small bomb in the lower right corner, then move right. Detonate the small bomb in the lower left corner and step right. Go right, then up across the ice, detonate the small bomb in the upper left corner and step right. Detonate the small bomb to your right and move down. Detonate the small bomb on the other end and move left.

Level 20

Hit the switch in the center, then go to the switch at the bottom and hit it. Go left to the lower-left corner and detonate the small bomb, then move right. You should be able to get rid of the spinning spheres enemy this way. Detonate the small bomb on the right in the upper-right corner and move down. Detonate the small bomb in the lower-right corner and move left. Detonate the small bomb near the upper-left corner and move left.

PrinceWatercress plays Ka-Blooey - Part 2 of 25

We get introduced to a few more game mechanics in Levels 11 through 15. Be ready to think a little more.

Level 11

To activate switches, walk up to them and hold A or X until the countdown timer goes all the way down, just like when you detonate bombs. When a switch is down, it is in an activated state.

The set of four brown circles that spins around is an enemy, and it usually turns to the right when it reaches the end of a row or column. Bomb explosions will kill enemies, and removal of tiles from underneath enemies will drop them into the water and kill them, should the tile disappear while the enemy is on them.

Mines detonate when stepped on and will kill you. Bombs can be used to get mines out of the way. There are small mines and large mines, and the small mines have a pretty short range. Mines count as bombs and must be destroyed to complete a level.

Hit the switch at the beginning, then detonate the nearby small bomb. Head to the right, then blow the bomb after the cracked tile up. Hit the nearby switch, then detonate the small bomb in the lower-left corner. Blow up either the center right or top right small bomb in the set of six small bombs, then step to the right. Blow up the lone small bomb and move up, then go to the right. Blow up the small bomb in the upper-left and step to the right.

Level 12

The aerial bombs have satellites on them, and when you blow one up, they all blow up simultaneously. Like the regular bombs, they also come in small, medium and large sizes.

Move the small bomb on the slot tiles at the start down one tile, then detonate it and move up. Go up to the slot tiles to the right and move the medium bomb to the mine, then detonate the nearby small bomb and move up. Move the medium aerial bomb on the next set of slot tiles one tile left, then detonate the small aerial bomb and move right. Put the small bomb in the last set of slot tiles in the top right tile of the "rectangle," then place the medium bomb one tile down, place a large bomb one tile down on the lower-left tile and the other large bomb to the left of it on the lower-right tile. Detonate the small bomb and move up.

Level 13

The bombs that swell from small to medium to large to medium to small and so on and so forth are called swell bombs. Wait for the bomb to be the desired size before detonating the bomb or a bomb right next to it.

The little blue guy is a robot. He can be pulled out of the ground by holding A or X while standing on him, much like activating a switch or detonating a bomb. The blue robot can move past bombs, and they can also be used to detonate bombs from a distance by holding A or X. They can also run into mines to take them out from a distance, but this destroys the robot.

The tiles with the bolts in them are called rivet tiles. They cannot be destroyed by bomb explosions, unlike other tiles.

Move the blue guy to the swell bomb in the lower-left corner and detonate it when small. Then, detonate the small bomb in the lower-right corner and move left.

Level 14

Detonate the swell bomb near the teleporter when the swell bomb is large, then step into the teleporter.

Level 15

Move the medium bomb on the slot tiles in the lower-left corner one tile to the right. Detonate the swell bomb in the upper-right corner when the swell bomb is small, then move down. Go to the swell bomb south of the nearby mine and detonate it when it is small, then move down. Detonate the small bomb in the lower-right corner, then move left. Move the swell bomb on the nearby slot tiles one tile left, then place the small bomb to the right of it. Go to the small bomb in the top center and detonate it, then move back to the swell bomb. Detonate the small bomb near the swell bomb when the swell bomb is medium, then move down.

PrinceWatercress plays Ka-Blooey - Part 1 of 25

Are you ready for 130 levels of explosive fun that will tie your brain in knots? Then this is the game for you!

It's Ka-blooey! It's 130 levels of controlled, thought-out, destructive, bomb-detonating fun for the Super Nintendo...if you can figure everything out!

Level 1

The D-Pad moves you, the little blue guy, around, but you will need to rotate your control 45 degrees to the right so you can easily tell where you are going. It takes a little while to get used to, but once you're used to it, you'll be able to easily move through the levels. A or X, when held, lets you explode bombs.

Select gives you a detailed, close-up view of part of the map, while Start allows you to see more of the map from a further distance.

The cracked titles will fall apart after you walk off of them. The normal tiles are, well, normal.

The small bombs in this level have a very limited range and will only blow up anything right next to them. To detonate them, walk up to one and hold A until the countdown is finished. When you hear the rumbling sound, the bomb is about to blow. The bomb will not explode until you walk away from it.

If you blow yourself up with a bomb or get caught in the range of a bomb explosion, you will lose a life. If you walk off the tiles and into the blue water below, that will also cost a life. You will also lose a life if the timer goes down to zero.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll have your bonus - which doubles as a timer - the current level number you are on and the amount of lives you have left, the number of bombs left to get rid of, and the current score for both Player 1 and Player 2 in case of a two-player game. When you clear a level, you will get an extra life. You'll also get a 10-point bonus for each tile left in the level.

To beat this level, you just need to go either clockwise or counter-/anti-clockwise around the room and blow up the bombs without blowing yourself up or falling into the water. That's it, really.

Level 2

The slightly bigger bomb is the medium bomb. It has a slightly larger explosion range compared to the small bomb, and can hit things up to two tiles away. The range is in more of a diamond pattern than a square pattern, so it has a one-square diagonal range and if you were to detonate it and press Start, you'll get a better idea of the range of the explosion.

The shiny light-blue tiles are ice. You will slide off of them in the direction that you walked into them from until you hit another non-ice tile. It is also easy to slide off the level and into the water if you are not careful.

Blow up the small bomb in the lower-left corner and move up, then detonate the small bomb to the left of the cracked title in the center. Then, go to the small bomb in the lower-right corner, detonate, and step left.

Level 3

You'll be introduced to the slot tiles. The slot tiles have a brown track on them, and if you walk up to a bomb on a slot tile and press B or Y, you can pick it up, move it across other slot tiles, and put it back with B or Y. If you walk onto a non-slot tile, or if you walk into a slot tile that already has a bomb on it, you will drop the bomb.

Go up to the slot tiles on the lower-right corner and move the small bomb left. Detonate it, then step right. That clears the level.

Level 4

The even bigger bomb is the large bomb. It is the largest of the three bombs, and its explosion travels three tiles in the cardinal directions (north, west, east and south) and two tiles in the diagonal directions.

Detonate the bomb near the start, then move down. Go to the large bomb, head left across the ice, and detonate the small bomb in the upper-left corner. Go back to the large bomb, then go to the small and medium bomb near the left-most ice tile. Detonate the small bomb and move down. Go to the small bomb to the right, detonate, and step to the right. Go right to the final small bomb, detonate, and step left.

Level 5

Take the lower path to the upper-right corner and detonate the small bomb, then head left back to the small bomb, detonate it, and move down. Go further down and detonate the small bomb, then go to the lower-left corner and detonate that small bomb. From here, you'll want to go right and go in a circle while detonating the remaining small bombs.

Level 6

The teleporters will take you from one place to another, but watch out! It is possible to teleport yourself into a trap if you're unaware or you don't know the level layout yet.

Move the large bomb on the slot tiles one tile to the right, then go right, detonate the small bomb, and enter the teleporter in the upper-right corner.

Level 7

Place the medium bomb on the slot tiles south of the large bomb in the upper-right corner, then place the small bomb on the tile south of the medium bomb. Detonate the small bomb, then move down or left.

Level 8

Go right, right, down, left, down, right, up, right, down, left, up, and right. Do not detonate the bomb until you reach the final destination, which is the lone small bomb on the seventh column. Once you reach it, detonate, then go left, down, right, up, left, down, left, up, right, up, left, left. As you move from bomb to bomb, you'll want to detonate each bomb along the way.

Level 9

Move the large bomb on the slot tiles to the lower-right slot tile, then detonate the small bomb just left of the center of the level and step down. You'll be on the only title that does not get blown up and you will survive.

Level 10

Go down until you enter the teleporter. Go up, detonate the small bomb, and enter the teleporter. Detonate the small bomb, then go down to the large bomb. Detonate the large bomb and enter the teleporter. You'll be back at the start. Detonate the small bomb and move down.

PrinceWatercress plays Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? (SMS) - Part 4 of 9

Inspector already. Well, that was fast.

After you make it to Inspector, the suspects move as they shoot! You'll need to have some distance between yourself and the suspect as you move up and down to avoid the bullets. You'll want to be either all the way down or all the way up, and when the suspect moves their arm to shoot the bullet, that's when you move all the way in the other direction. It will take some practice to get the timing for this down, but once you get the timing, you'll be dodging bullets easily.
