PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 13 of 14

Welcome to the final regular level of the game. Unlike the other ones, this one has a otherworldly look and feel to it with the platforming, hazards and enemies. This level, not surprisingly, has the hardest ancestors to nab in the whole game.

0:41 - The intro for Gehenna.

1:31 - Destroying the crates with the red skull-and-crossbones on them will blow them up and get them out of your way. Of course, you'll soon meet these green alien things that will spit acid balls at you. Keep your distance away from these absolute units if you have to kill them with five Hell Blast shots.

3:07 - The steam will push you back, so walk on top of these pipes.

4:10 - The first ancestor, and Doom Blast.

5:50 - These eye enemies follow you around and hurt to the touch. They take three shots of Hell Blast to defeat.

6:39 - The second ancestor. If you go past this point without getting the ancestor, you'll have to start the whole stage over if you want another chance at it.

7:02 - You can easily miss these voodoo dolls.

7:43 - Even more power-ups!

8:00 - Hit the harpoon gun, then walk into the rope carefully to grab on.

8:38 - Don't forget to grab this Loa Stone and hit this switch. You'll need it to open the path ahead.

9:43 - Watch out for spirit world debris.

11:26 - The third ancestor. Use your shadow, and don't destroy the crates.

13:50 - Dead again.

14:57 - Finally, now this thing is up and running. Go into the steam for once. You'll end up elsewhere.

15:52 - That "elsewhere" is at the beginning of the level. Hit the switch, and trigger the checkpoint. By going inside, you'll be able to get the Seal of Sadiki.

17:12 - Now for the hard part...

18:58 - After getting rid of the floating pig man, it's time to dodge some pipes for another Loa Stone.

19:40 - We're not done yet. Take the platform, go through the door and go all the way to the left back to the start. This allows you to get back to the Loa Stone. Place the Loa Stone in the pedestal, climb up, hit the harpoon gun and get the fourth ancestor for the level and the final one in the game. Drop down. You're done collecting these things.

21:14 - Hit the harpoon gun and walk into the rope. You're done.

21:59 - The Seal of Sadiki does not restore your life; instead, it freed Baron Samedi from the underworld! Now you'll have to fight him in one last fight!

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 12 of 14

There's a lot of blades, lava and long drops in the blade temple that is Caina. This level may be a bit of a doozy, but the most dangerous one is yet to come. We're getting close to completing the Baron's task...

1:34 - The intro for Caina.

2:11 - Hit the switch here to stop the blade, then use L2 and the Control Pad to crawl.

3:54 - The first ancestor. For some reason, a couple of worm enemies will spawn here.

5:02 - The sorceress enemy, who can shoot powerful homing fireballs. Hit the switch here to break the column from earlier apart and open more of the level.

7:30 - You'll need to use Flame Shroud to walk across the lava floor and get some power-ups.

8:52 - Watch out for the steam of the way up. Also, you'll start handling giant moving platforms here. Be ready to jump and duck to stay on them when necessary.

10:10 - The second ancestor. This one can be easy to miss.

10:30 - Another set of these platforms. Duck with L2 to get to the other side.

10:52 - Doom Blast kill, and the third ancestor.

11:38 - Another switch that breaks a column. When you hit the switch on the other end, be ready to move.

13:39 - Jump over the steam to keep from being pushed off the platform.

14:17 - Duck the first blade, jump on the second, get on the platform, hit the switch, move to the left, move to the right, then wait for the platform to get to another area.

15:07 - If you're careful, you can get through here unscathed.

15:55 - We can now get the Loa Stone and use it.

16:54 - The fourth ancestor.

17:23 - Akuji: he's smarter than the average reaper.

18:58 - The Baron opens the road to Gehenna, the final regular level in the game.

PrinceWatercress plays Monkey Magic - Part 2 of 20

Now that we've become a disciple of Master Subodye, we can learn magic and put our skills to the test in an abandoned atomic power plant (wait, what?) to find the Power Rod.

When you continue with the game, you'll notice another gauge to the right of your health. This will be for your magic, which you'll be learning very, very shortly.

Move away from the dojo and continue to the right. You'll meet Master Subodye. Head further to the right to learn about the glowing magic pad, which will refill your magic meter as you stand on it. Fill up the meter, then head to the right to get the green crystal and learn your first spell: the Shrink spell. You can use this spell to shrink yourself as well as other items. Use L1 to cast the spell on yourself, and use R1 to cast the spell on objects. Watch your magic meter!

When you shrink yourself or other objects, green globes of light will surround yourself or the object you shrunk, depending on what you did. As time passes, the globes will float away from you or the object one by one. When the last globe leaves, you or the object will return to normal size.

Be careful when shrinking yourself to go down very narrow corridors. The shrink spell can and will wear off while in the corridor, and if that happens, you will be squashed and killed, causing the loss of a life.

Once you make it to the end, you'll be taken to an abandoned atomic power plant (wait, what?!?) to look for the Power Rod. Seriously, we go to something that should not exist in this time and place to find something that we need to become a stronger warrior. How this works, I have no clue.

Search For The Ultimate Weapon

Obtain The Power Rod

There will be a magic pad to stand on to refill your magic to the right at the start. From here, you'll need to jump your way to the top. Watch the platforms, and be careful of the platforms coated in slime, as they are slippery. Also, pools of glowing green acid will eat you alive in seconds, so stay out of them.

When you reach the solid ground at the top, you'll have a few opportunities to shrink yourself and other objects. Do this to get through. When you jump to the pipe that you need to climb down, hold down Up as you jump to it to ensure that you grab it.

Don't forget to use Circle and the Control Pad to move the camera around and look for pick-ups...you'll need 'em!

The rats will run at you and knock you very far back unless you shrink them like you would stationary object. Don't forget that you have to duck and them attack to hit them. Since they are shrunken down, they will take fewer hits to defeat.

You'll eventually return to the start, but at this point, you should have Key 1. If you don't have Key 1, which is located before the pipe you have to climb down, you'll have to go all the way back up just to get it.

In the second set of platforms in the background after Keyhole 1, there will be acid droplets that drop down. Do not let these droplets hit you; they will hurt. When you reach the top of this area, jump in the middle of the tunnel you have to go through to find a hidden Monkey icon.

You'll eventually find a fragile crate of hazardous waste. As soon as you touch it, Subodye will contact you and send you back to the dojo.

When you return to the dojo, you'll get the yellow crystal and the Growth spell. Use L2 and R2 to switch between spells. With the Growth spell - also known as the Strength spell - you can strengthen your body with L1 and strengthen other objects with R1. By using L1, you can make yourself nearly invincible and give yourself the ability to push heavy objects, and you can give that magic to objects with R1 to make them less fragile and more impervious.

Shrink and Growth are opposite of each other, and can cancel each other out. You can use Growth on something shrunken down - including yourself - to restore it to normal size, and you can cancel out the Growth spell on yourself or an object with the Shrink spell. This is useful if you don't want to wait for a spell to wear off...but your magic is limited, so plan ahead!

Once you've made it to the end of the training session, you'll return to the power plant so you can cast Growth on the box, make it stronger and then push it into the acid to use it as a makeshift raft.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 11 of 14

In this entry, we face the third boss of the game, then we have to destroy another giant statue head while dealing with an entire legion of flying enemies. Also, the ability to turn into a puma returns. I wish the game let you do that more.

0:36 - The introduction for the battle with Purity.

To beat Purity, run around the room to avoid the fireballs, and do not walk into the acid. Grab the magic whenever it shows up, and fire it at Purity.

When you empty the small health bar that she has, she will go into another room. Follow her in. From this point, you'll be using melee. Use Flame Shroud, get close and use your melee attacks along with it. Purity will eventually split into two; destroy the lower half first for some much needed health. The upper half will retreat, but if you keep using Flame Shroud and any other magic that pops up, you can easily torch her. Just remember that there is still acid all around that can hurt you.

4:31 - Akuji makes another sacrifice, this time with a goat.

5:20 - The fourth vestibule is open. Enoch is the first place to go.

6:24 - The introduction to Enoch.

6:54 - Try not to get impaled here.

7:25 - Hit this switch to continue on.

7:52 - The skull spiders are nothing. These guys are worse.

8:34 - The first ancestor. If you drop down to where the lower switch is, you can more easily get it. From here, use the lower switch to continue on.

10:53 - These guys just keep comin'! And they have friends in pots.

13:10 - Hidden health. Also, the ladder to the left of here is pretty hard to see.

14:05 - The second ancestor.

14:51 - This flame-spewing statue is indestructible, and it can give you a hard time. You will have to be patient as you run and jump past it to get to the switch on the other side.

15:39 - Opening the gate.

16:03 - The third ancestor. Very easy to miss!

16:29 - More hidden health.

16:44 - An enemy gauntlet. Use the force field on the white flying enemies. The Loa Stone will raise up a bridge.

18:53 - Now to open up these stairs.

19:44 - "Oh. You followed him. Good."

20:06 - Second verse, same as the first.

20:26 - Well, that's one way to trigger a switch.

20:50 - "Well, I guess that answers my question." These homing projectiles act weird sometimes.

22:55 - The jumping and climbing begins...and you'll also have to fight the statue Orwa. Good thing we have all that ammo for the rapid fire shot; it will make this battle easy. Jump to the Loa Stone to get it, then jump your way back. From here, you can open the gate.

25:14 - Altar time! It's time to rip and tear as a were-puma.

26:20 - Don't destroy that pillar! You'll miss the fourth ancestor!

28:22 - These jumps are scary.

28:42 - How many of these guys are there?!? Well, go ahead and jump to these moving platforms and hit the switch on the other side.

32:20 - The road to Caina is opened.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 10 of 14

We're getting close to the end of the game, and here in Limbo is the most harrowing platform yet. If you're not risking falling into a pit of acid, you're either above a bottomless pit or being chased by something...or both. Treading carefully is advised.

0:43 - The intro to Limbo.

1:58 - Shoot down the tarus point here to open a platform...

2:42 - ...to go over here, hit the pyramid with your melee attack and open up a bridge.

4:10 - This eye bat is a pain in the butt, because it flies around quite a bit. Also, watch those spikes, and don't jump into the green water.

4:40 - Hidden health and Soul Seeker ammo. Jump over the fire.

6:00 - The orange skull with the ring is the Flame Shroud. Use it to burn anybody who gets close, like the flying bull enemy up ahead. Man, he came this close to kicking my ass.

6:47 - As you jump from platform to platform, a green protoplasmic orb follows you. If it touches you, you will die. Afterwards, there will be one platform left to turn over, and it will only do so when you reach the end. That platform will take you to the first ancestor.

8:51 - The Flame Shroud takes care of the bats pretty well, too. The crystals give you pick-ups if you strike them.

9:46 - Jumping into the pillar of light while inside it will take you higher. Use this to get on the nearby platforms as well as to get the Loa Stone to get some platforms moving..

10:52 - Now that you have more Flame Shrouds, use it to kill this fire-breathing dog enemy.

11:21 - These two spears show where to drop for the second ancestor.

12:52 - The first of four platforms to lower is easy, but this one has you doing some target practice with Hell Blast on some tarus points.

14:04 - Don't get punctured. Once you hit this pyramid, the spikes stop, and the camera angle also changes.

14:30 - Make sure these platforms are tilted towards you as you jump. Now we've opened a bridge elsewhere.

16:08 - Jump from platform to platform before they disappear so you can get the Loa Stone.

16:38 - More hidden health and Soul Seeker ammo. You'll have to make some tricky jumping to get back. Use the ladder nearby to go back up.

17:17 - On the way back, you'll have a choice between jumping to the left and jumping to the right. Go left; this allows you to get the third ancestor.

18:54 - Now that the Loa Stone is in place, we can finally go up. Hit the tarus point at the top to continue.

19:46 - This again...and the green orb is faster this time. If you need to move the camera to straighten out your jumps, do it fast.

20:42 - There are two voodoo dolls here, but the camera makes getting them a pain in the ass.

21:18 - Oh, hey, Charon.

24:35 - Take this ladder down to get the fourth ancestor safely. Watch your jump.

26:22 - We must defeat Purity if we want to come close to ending this journey.

PrinceWatercress plays Monkey Magic - Part 1 of 20

I find it hard to believe this anime got a video game, and I also find it hard to believe the game - and the anime - got an American dub and release, given that the anime got cut down at only 13 episodes due to low ratings in Japan when they were going for 52.

The story begins with a meteor containing a being crashing into Flower Fruit Mountain. When the meteor lands, the meteor splits open to reveal a young monkey named Kongo. As this happens, the demons of the underworld and their leader, Dearth Voyd, become aware of Kongo's entry into planet Earth, and Dearth Voyd sends Batty, an evil bat, to spy on Kongo after becoming aware of Kongo's power and draw him to the dark side in an attempt to wipe out the Guardian's teachings forever.

Years later, as Kongo is trying to become the strongest warrior there is, Batty tells Kongo that they key to doing just that is to achieve divine power, and that he must start by climbing up a mountain to train under Master Subodye. From here, the game begins.

Enter Stone Monkey

Find Subodye's school and master your magic power

You'll crash land in a meteor, then you'll be able to control Kongo. Your health is in the upper-left corner of the screen.

When you head to the right, you'll meet Batty. Batty will give you hints on how to play the game early on, and will also show up to give you hints if you get stuck at certain points.

The lanterns are checkpoints. If you run into one, you will return to it when you lose a life.

To cross bridges leading to platforms in the foreground or background, use Up and Down on the Control Pad.

The turnips are used to refill a little bit of health, so be sure to turn to them when you need to in order to stay alive.

Be sure to jump clear over the bear traps, as they will instantly kill you if you move into them.

Keyholes will need keys to unlock paths to other areas. You'll need to find the key, which will have a number on it, first. Then, you'll need to place it into the keyhole that shares its number with the Triangle button.

If you press and hold X while jumping on a trampoline, you'll keep gaining height on your jumps up to a certain point. Be careful at high heights, as you will drop like a stone and take fall damage if you fall from too high an elevation.

Gordian Knots will not only refill your health completely, but they will refill your magic. (More on that later.) Monkey Icons will refill your health completely and give you an extra life...and you're going to need as many lives as you can get.

There are points where you can break rock walls with Square to open up areas where you can find power-ups.

When you see the beehives, keep running and do not stop. Eventually, you will come to a point where the bees stop chasing you, and it is usually another beehive. If the bees hit you, it is instant death.

Pressing Down lets you duck. If you press Up, you'll stand back up. While crouched, use Left and Right to roll. This will get you across some narrow crawlspaces in this level.

By pressing X in mid-air, you can do a double jump.

Sometimes, if you grab a lone turnip, other power-ups will pop up around it. Be sure to explore the levels as best as you can to grab as many power-ups as you can.

By holding Circle, you can move the game camera around slightly with the Control Pad. Use this to look for platforms and to figure out where you need to go next.

You can move crates by moving into them.

Use Down at the top of a rope or vine to climb down. Use Up and Down to climb up and down ropes and vines. It should be noted that if you use the camera button while on a rope or vine, you will still move if you hold Up or Down, so be careful.

You'll eventually Subodye's School of Magic. Here, you'll have to fight three disciples in order to get entry to the school. The first is Beedy, who uses his martial arts. Get close to him and keep punching to defeat him while holding towards him, and use the double jump to avoid getting hit. Bidey will use nunchaku. Double jump over him as he attacks, then mash Square while holding forward when you're behind him. Bodey will attack with a staff. He is slow to swing, so get him to swing, then get near him after he attacks and hold forwards on the Control Pad while pressing Square. You'll soon have all three disciples beaten. Just enter the school, and the level is over.

When you complete a level, you'll see how well you did on items. Here, you'll just see how many turnips, Gordian Knots and monkey icons you collected, then you'll see what your rank is, which has no bearing on how the rest of the game will go. You'll then be able to save your game before going to the next level.

    • duck (press Up to stand up, use Left/Right to roll)

    • move down bridges between foreground and background plane

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 9 of 14

Not only do we have to close up portals of endlessly spawning enemies, but we have to destroy a giant, fire-spitting statue head, too. Things just aren't getting any easier for Akuji, are they?

0:52 - The intro for Seiomos.

2:20 - The worm demons will spit out clouds of poisonous gas if you get too close...and they hurt. Take them out from a distance with the Energy Blast.

2:52 - Hit the two pedestals here to seal the portal. Also, don't fall into the water here; it's acid.

4:11 - The first ancestor. Thankfully, the water is harmless. Just fight off the worm demons, then use the uppercut to break the statue, lower a ladder and free the path to the ancestor.

6:03 - Some small acid pools contain worms that will pop out and shoot at you .Energy Blast from a distance works best.

7:10 - Spikes will pop in and out of the platform, so watch out.

7:26 - These platforms dip in and out of the acid.

8:00 - Don't climb around there just yet! Go up the stairs for the second ancestor, which is easy to miss.

10:24 - Not only is the column here narrow, but the enemy can knock you off and into the acid pit. Thankfully, Soul Seeker will wipe this guy and his two buddies who show up afterwards out.

11:47 - Don't forget the Energy Blast ammo at this portal.

12:38 - Another portal, another Energy Blast pick-up. Also, getting sealed in there serves him right for whacking me as hard as he did.

12:53 - This is how you'll usually notice the third ancestor. Again...easy to miss.

14:36 - We have to hold R2 and move Akuji left and right with the Control Pad to reach the ladder. Haven't done that in a while!

15:15 - To beat this mini-boss, position yourself behind a rock, face the mini-boss, jump up and fire Energy Blast projectiles after the fireballs from the statue hit the rock. If you need to, use Soul Seeker. Thankfully, there is ammo for both spells around here. Defeating the mini-boss will net you the second-to-last Loa Stone for the stage.

19:27 - The final Loa Stone opens the path to the fourth ancestor.

20:45 - Walk into the rock to open up the exit.

21:47 - The door to Limbo is now open.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 8 of 14

In this entry, we beat the warden of the second vestibule and head to the third one. This stage is mostly like the last, but this time around, we're also jumping on webs and swinging around on ziplines while flying enemies nearly kill us. This will be fun.

To beat Okal, you'll need to destroy the spider spawners. You can either press Jump and Attack simultaneously to perform an aerial strike, or you can use Ring of Death if they are lower enough. Some of the spawners will give you Spirit Strike, and you'll need those for Okal.

After you destroy the spawners, Okal will show up. Equip Spirit Strike and stay on the move, so you can fire off your own homing shots while avoiding Okal's. There are webs you can climb for pick-ups and health, but the spiders will sap your energy if they get to you.

0:50 - The intro for Okal.

4:31 - Akuji makes another brutal sacrifice.

5:39 - Baron Samedi opens up the third vestibule and the door to Ladhaa.

6:47 - The intro for Ladhaa.

7:11 - After getting the magic behind the hut, you'll learn about the uppercut here.

7:37 - These flying enemies will fall quickly from the uppercut. They also usually show up in pairs.

8:33 - The nets work just like the leaves from the previous level.

9:00 - The first ancestor, which is really easy to miss.

9:17 - Jump into the handle to continue on.

9:51 - This platform tilts around as you move around on it. Destroy the bug skull that acts as an wasp spawn point on the other side.

10:21 - At the bottom of the platform is Doom Blast. We haven't had that in a while.

10:39 - The second ancestor. Again, this one is easy to miss.

11:44 - This switch activates a platform that allows us to continue with the level. At the top is a spider wearing a cow skull.

12:36 - Be very careful with your jumps here; one mistake will be your last if you don't jump off the very edge.

14:15 - The third ancestor.

15:12 - Be careful on these platforms. It is easy to either get pushed off or miss a jump and fall all the way down. You also can't grab on if you come close to landing on one of them, either.

16:31 - The spinning log platform.

20:22 - By looking up and destroying the wasp skull with Soul Seeker, you'll cause a ladder to drop down here. This will take you to the fourth ancestor.

21:37 - By staying near the edges of these nets, you'll make the jumps here easier.

22:16 - Unintentional double kill.

23:35 - The Baron opens the path to Seiomos.

24:57 - I finally die. Brilliant.

29:12 - The road less travelled...

PrinceWatercress plays Fisher-Price: Perfect Fit - The Longplay

And now, all three levels without commentary. Enjoy.

It's time for a game made for preschoolers! The goal is simple: match and fit each puzzle piece into its silhouette. Use the Control Pad to move things to their proper silhouette, and press the A button when you have moved a piece on top of the flip panels to flip the object either vertically or horizontally, depending on which flip tile you have the piece over. When you place a piece correctly in its proper place, you will get another piece; if not, you'll have to keep trying to put the piece in its proper place - and correctly flipped - until you get it right. When you are done with a puzzle, press B to continue. This game teaches shape recognition and exploration and how to work under a time limit.

There are three difficulty levels. On Level 1, you have three puzzles with three silhouettes each, and you have no time limit. There is no shape flipping.

On Level 2, you have three puzzles with three silhouettes each, and you have six minutes to get through all three puzzles. Unlike Level 1, there is shape flipping, and you will need to put the current piece over one of the two flip panels to the left to flip the shape vertically or horizontally. Your score at the end is your current time in seconds times ten.

On Level 3, you have three puzzles with five silhouettes each, and you have three minutes to get through all three puzzles. Like Level 2, there is shape flipping, and you will need to put the current piece over one of the two flip panels to the left to flip the shape vertically or horizontally. Your score at the end is your current time in seconds times twenty.

You can play against the computer, but you can also play against a friend. The computer player (known as "Electro" here) is not very bright, but at least you can get an idea of how to play the game from Electro.

When you complete all three puzzles, the game is over. You can play with the same number of players and difficulty levels, or you can pick a different difficulty and select between one- and two-player mode again.

[YTP] Advertisements Up Your Ads-hole! (by @cs188)

THERE'S OLD GROSS EGG ROLLS, FUCKIN SHRIMP AND STRICKEN STRIPS

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 7 of 14

In this level, we go through the jungle, avoiding destructive plants, jumping around and banishing evil spirits in our quest to get back to the land of the living...and it's a long way down, too.

0:51 - The introduction for Hutama.

The bugs will spawn endlessly from bushes. Thankfully, they are easy to kill for farming soul fragments.

1:30 - Cut the ropes to get to other areas.

1:50 - The first ancestor. The Venus flytrap will try to eat you, so jump over to the ancestor quickly.

2:33 - The blade bushes cut you if you move into them. Don't.

2:49 - These white ape enemies go down quickly with Hell Blast. Thankfully, there is health nearby that will help you out if the one here gives you a beating.

3:35 - One of the Shadows is here; it will harm you if you get too close. Make your way up and cut the rope so you can get rid of the Shadow and continue on.

4:41 - These mounds spawn bug enemies. Take them out so you don't have to deal with any more bugs.

5:00 - This statue spits projectiles. Kill it with melee attacks or spells.

Also, watch out if you stay on the ground at this point; the big holes in the walls spawn bugs.

6:09 - Hold X on the way down and let go when you land to keep your bounces on this leaf high. From there, walk up to the zipline to get your second ancestor.

6:50 - Cutting this rope gives you stairs to get to another area.

8:44 - Even more stairs.

10:53 - A pair of ropes to cut in order to do some platforming...

11:47 - ...and get the third ancestor out of a pot.

13:49 - You'll need to be a little more careful on this see-saw platform.

14:54 - This rope will block some bug spawn points when cut. You may have to twist Akuji around in mid-air to get to the second rope.

15:56 - Here's how you get these things near this see-saw platform.

18:00 - You'll have to go off the beaten path and twist Akuji around in mid-air to get to the fourth ancestor.

20:02 - It's hard to tell at first, but you can shimmy to the other side, get the Loa Stone and get rid of the final Shadow.

21:45 - We can now face Okal for the right to enter the third vestibule.

PrinceWatercress plays Fisher-Price: Perfect Fit

You can tell I'm starved for ideas when it comes to really short games. At least I don't need OBS and a way to play BBC Micro games for this one.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 6 of 14

Our next level is Stygia, where we have to traverse through swamp river, platform over burning lava and creating a statue of a snake god in order to collect four more ancestors and get out of here.

1:13 - The introduction to Stygia.

1:48 - Hell Blast? Check. Ring of Death? Check. Let's destroy the dragonflies, crocodiles and sandworms. Thankfully, the water here does not hurt you; only the enemies. Make sure the seesaw platform is leaning upwards towards the ladder leading out of here before you jump to said ladder.

3:20 - Don't let the steam hit you.

3:42 - Go through the swamp waters here first. That way, the crocodiles won't give you a hard time due to all of them being massacred ahead of time.

5:39 - Finally, we can get Shield of Blood.

6:02 - The first ancestor. Keep your jump short to ensure you grab it.

7:29 - The snake's moving body acts as a conveyor belt. The pool of blood below will hurt you, so if you fall in, keep jumping to minimize the amount of damage you take.

10:29 - There are a couple of blue Reapers here. This is a great place to use Shield of Blood if you still have it, as you can it on the Reapers to refill health even if their bodies are lying there dead. Also, yes, I took fall damage.

11:35 - The second ancestor is in the water where the green snake shows up. Also, the crocodiles are a good Shield of Blood spot, too.

13:03 - Another conveyor belt snake.

14:15 - Grab the arch here for the third ancestor, which can be easy to miss.

14:30 - Move into the stone slab behind the checkpoint to push it down and continue.

15:05 - Same with this stone slab.

15:52 - Time to rebuild the serpent god. Find the ladder and climb your way up, and find the Loa Stones to build the statue and get even higher.

17:03 - The sandworms near this Loa Stone are a good place to use the Shield of Blood at.

18:32 - Across from this Loa Stone is the fourth ancestor. Just walk off the edge - don't jump - and the ancestor is yours.

19:02 - Rebuilding complete. At the top of the statue, it's just a few more jumps to the spirit gate.

20:53 - The Baron opens the door to Hutama, where you must face the light-fearing known as the Shadow Warriors.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 5 of 14

This was a fun stage to play. Besides doing a lot of climbing, there's also an altar you'll have to find before you can complete the stage that turns you into a half-man, half-panther-like being. I wish the game utilized it just a bit more often; it's kinda fun.

0:59 - The intro for Discord.

1:31 - Break wooden doors for power-ups.

1:49 - Be sure to look underneath where moving platforms are for monsters to fight. Keep in mind that the platforms do spin you around.

2:22 - The green skull gives you Energy Blast, which is a slightly less powerful version of Hell Blast that fires off even faster.

2:57 - The first ancestor. Maneuver carefully so you can grab a platform edge if you need to.

4:31 - This guy loves shooting fireballs at you.

5:01 - Be careful with the platform here; it does tip around as you move on it.

7:55 - This is a good place to use Captivity Strike, so you can zap enemies while also taking care of the enemy spawning mound that produces all the zombies.

9:33 - Press X to jump when on a ladder to jump backwards off the ladder.

10:12 - The second ancestor.

14:14 - Get on the ladder, jump backwards to the next platform, then jump on the top of the ladder platform itself.

14:24 - The third ancestor.

15:17 - Killing this creature opens up the totem. Strangely, we do this the more patient way.

16:42 - The totem in action. This turns you into a were-panther, and your melee combat strength goes off the charts. This doesn't last long, however.

18:03 - The fourth ancestor is behind the spirit gate at the end.

18:33 - Samedi opens Stygia.

PrinceWatercress plays Dynamite Duke (GEN/MD) - The Longplay

Now it's time for the whole game, sans commentary, in one shot. I'm surprised at how quickly you can get through this game.

Believe it or not, there is a story. Cue Wikipedia:

A top scientist decides to utilise a secret formula to develop his very own army of evil mutant warriors, so he can become the ruler of the world. It is up to Dynamite Duke: a man who is armed with a cybernetic arm along with a machine gun to foil his evil plan.

Mission 1: Air Field

The game is similar to Cabal as well as Seibu Kaihatsu's own Empire City: 1931 and Dead Angle. You have a third-person view, where you are at the bottom of the screen with a clear, see-through hole through your body signifying your hit box. There is a cursor you can move around to aim the gun, but as you move the gun, you will also be moving yourself in order to keep from getting hit. If you lose all your health, you are forced to use a continue or else it's game over.

The Control Pad moves and aims. If you hold Down and Left or Down and Right, you can zoom across the screen in a ducking position, allowing you to duck some - but not all - attacks. A shoots the gun. B punches when pressed and throws a grenade when held. When you hold the button down, there is a gray gauge that fills up at the bottom of the screen, and when it's filled up, you can release the button to throw a screen-clearing bomb, assuming you have enough "D" icons in the lower-right corner of the screen. C performs a close range kick.

At the lower-left corner is your score as well as your current health. As you take damage, your boxes will go from yellow to red. To the right of that is your current ammo count as well as the "P" gauge. As mentioned earlier, when you hold the B button down, there is a gray gauge that fills up at the bottom of the screen, and when it's filled up, you can release the button to throw a screen-clearing bomb, assuming you have enough "D" icons in the lower-right corner of the screen. Speaking of which, that's the only thing left to mention, and you start out with five. However, you can shoot things down to earn more. You'll still want to use them sparingly, however.

The enemies will be in gray here. The bullets will be yellow. When you see the bullets, you'll want to move away from them, and you'll want to hold Down when you move left and right to make it easier to avoid some bullets. When it comes to shooting enemies, you'll want to tap the A button rather than hold it down to allow yourself a better chance to move.

Things such as vehicles and steel drums can be shot down, and sometimes, you can find pick-ups, which you can shoot to pick up. The bullet icons will give you ammo. One row of bullets on the icon gives you 50 shots, while two rows will give you 100. A first aid kit will refill three units of health. A "Full Auto" icon will let you shoot infinite machine gun shots without having to hold A for a limited amount of time. The gray vest is a bulletproof vest, and it will protect you from a limited amount of bullets. It will be above the bombs on the lower-right corner and flashing white for as long as you have it, and after you take enough bullets, it will disappear. If you know what you're doing, you can keep the vest on you for quite a while.

There are also red vehicles with what look like air vents moving around. If you shoot them, you can definitely get a power-up from them.

Besides soldiers, there are also turrets than move in and out of the ground, as well as some in the background. Be ready to move fast and shoot just as quickly, especially near the end when you have two yellow turrets at the top of the screen ready to fire. You'll want to take those things out quickly as you face the mid-boss: a big green tank. As for the tank itself, shoot it as it moves, then duck and move from side to side to avoid the gunfire. When it stops firing, start shooting it down again and keep avoiding those bullets. It will eventually flash red, meaning that it is about to be destroyed. Keep firing and avoiding, and you should be able to come through.

After this battle, you'll fight a big, burly man. Avoid his rocket fist and get as much bullets into him as you can from far away before he gets up close. When that happens, you'll have to use your fists and your ability to stick and move. A will work as a quick punch while B will work as a more powerful one, while C is the kick like it always was. You can duck the punches and keep pressing B while ducking to get some shots in, but when he tries to hit you with his robotic arm, you will want to duck and move to get away from him and his arm as he swings it around. When he stops swinging it, be ready to hit him while continuing to duck down. It won't take long to beat this guy and go on to Mission 2.

If you have less than perfect health at the beginning of the mission, you'll be able to refill three squares before going on to the next one. You also start with 500 bullets no matter what.

Mission 2: Occupied Town

There are more enemies to shoot down, and things such as "Don't Walk" signs, mailboxes and parking meters can be shot down for power-ups.

Some of the enemies will throw bombs at you; these will do damage regardless of whether you have a vest on or not.

The chopper will move from side to side and lower itself before shooting at you; shoot at it as it flies around and duck and move to avoid the shots after it lowers.

The boss here is a man with a flamethrower. Avoid the flamethrower when the guy is far away, and when he gets into close quarters, strike him and get away when he rears back. When he points his gun to shoot a flame, duck under it and move in to punch him. If he flashes, you'll have to move quickly to avoid getting hit by the flamethrower (which thankfully doesn't hurt that much). If he ever moves back to the background, avoid the flames and get your shots in.

Mission 3: Woods

The worst of the new enemies that are here - who are now wearing blue - are the men with the brown Kevlar vests. These guys will jump up and throw kunai at you, and they will damage you through the bulletproof vest. Get used to seeing these kinds of soldiers throughout the game from here on out.

If you find a "Life Up" pick-up, get it. This adds one unit to your maximum health.

The gray tank is the same as the one from Mission 1, but it will also shoot grenades at you when it is low on health. While you can shoot them down, you're better off standing in the gaps between where they land.

At the boss, concentrate on shooting down the myriad of planes and tanks that show up until the center of the bridge opens to reveal a yellow rocket launcher. When you see the black holes turn red, be ready to duck and move to avoid the rockets, and return fire to it whenever possible. Avoid the planes and tanks' shots and just concentrate on the rocket launcher on the bridge, and you should be okay.

Mission 4: Tunnel

You can shoot the rocks near the holes down at the beginning of the level for power-ups. Also, the guys who throw the bombs are back. Near the end, the tank boss from Mission 1 comes back.

The boss is the same guy from the end of Mission 1. He's mostly the same as before, but he has a new attack: the ability to produce a lightsaber out of his right hand. Duck and move to avoid the horizontal slash as he strikes, and if he does two in a row, get away from him before hitting him again, as he will swing downwards. That downward swings has to be dodged; you cannot duck under it. As long as you're on the move, he's still pretty easy.

Mission 5: Factory

There is a bulletproof vest in the filing cabinet all the way to the left at the start, so get it immediately before the cabinet gets scrolled off the screen.

This level is pretty nasty. There will be a lot more enemies on the upper level than on the lower one, but you'll need to shoot down all the objects in the way for power-ups...so pick your poison.

The boss here is the flamethrower guy from Mission 2. He fights much like he did in that mission, and he still has that close-range flamethrower attack that is tough to avoid. Just keep ducking as you move, and keep moving past him. He will whiff all his punches, and he will eventually try to fire the gun at you as you bob and weave. Once again, duck down and move in when he points his gun to the side to shoot, then get in your two punches and back off.

Mission 6: Laboratory

The kunai throwers return after being absent for two missions, so be ready to shoot them down. Also, shoot down all the objects you can, as you're going to need the power-ups. There will also be a fair few enemies at the top of the screen; take them down if you can...and watch out for that floor turret.

To destroy the generator at the center of the boss screen, you'll need to use a bomb to destroy the shield (or you can shoot the gray flashing thing at the bottom). You'll also need to shoot down the masked men in the blue coats to get rid of them for a couple of seconds. Thankfully, they will always drop power-ups, and you can use them to get bullets and the occasional full-auto (although it won't surprise me if they drop Life Ups as well). From there, keep the blue guys down when they show up and keep shooting at the generator. This is probably the easiest boss in the game if you know what to do.

Mission 7: Atomic Reactor

It's one last boss battle! I do horrible in the Let's Play, but I do better in the longplay. Here we go...

The first phase is a guy with a machine gun. Avoid his bullets as he quickly runs back and forth, and keep shooting him in the legs. If he stops moving, keep shooting him in the legs to minimize the boss' movement and bullets. He will fall over the barrier, but he will turn into an alien and come back.

Welcome to the second phase, which can be the end of the game for you if you don't know how to do things. Always duck while moving, and keep moving back and forth around him. He will do two strikes when he is across from you. The first is a punch that you can duck. Hit him if you can with the A button. After he swings that punch, get away from him immediately, otherwise he will hit you with a kick you cannot duck under. If he looks to the side, go back to him and start punching; otherwise, he will hit you with that stretching arm and it will hurt. It will take trial and error to get him to look to the side and go for that extending punch.

After you beat the second phase, you'll get a huge alien for the third phase. Avoid the bullets while shooting the boss. When the boss' eye opens, it will shoot fire at you. When you see the fire, duck and move in one direction. When you see the flames follow you, immediately move in the other direction and keep going to avoid being hit. The eye will close, and you'll have your chance to shoot the boss some more until the eye opens again. Repeat until dead, and stay away from the extreme ends of the room to ensure you can dodge the flames.

Once you beat the third phase, the game is over! Enjoy the ending!

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 4 of 14

In this entry, we face our first boss before heading into the second vestibule, where the tricks, traps and monsters ramp up. The second part of the game is where things start getting interesting.

1:01 - The battle with Mahdi.

Destroy the Tarus Points for spells. Use the stalagmites to avoid the fireballs, and run away from the spheres that home in on you, and when Mahdi comes to your neck of the woods, be ready to hang back and shoot fireballs at it. If you can get the Shield of Blood spell, use it,  get close to Mahdi and tear away at him with your blades to to refill your health and deal a ton of damage. If you can get Soul Seeker ammo, be ready to shoot at run to chip away at Mahdi's health.

4:26 - After you beat Mahdi, Akuji makes a sacrifice to the gods.

5:07 - Baron Samedi opens up the second vestibule. From here, Oinos is your next destination.

6:27 - The introduction to Oinos. Be ready to kick butt when you start the level, as these blue reapers teleport when you hit them. Thankfully, you can see their shadow and see where they move. The blue skulls give you Spirit Strike, which is a much more powerful version of Soul Seeker. As for the spiked roller, watch where there are not spikes and be in those positions when you move across.

7:11 - The health meter increases!

7:38 - Don't let these boulders touch you.

9:09 - The first ancestor. Hit the Tarus Point to open the way forward Also, the Ring of Death, which has been shown before, allows you to attack enemies that are near you for a ton of damage.

10:35 - The cobra cannons.

11:26 - To beat this beast, get its attention so it charges at you, then run to the side and hit it a few times with your melee attacks before it turns around. If it kicks its front leg forward, it's about to run at you. From here, lather, rinse and repeat.

12:38 - More boulders. The Captivity Strike zaps nearby enemies, doing damage while holding them in place. Combine this with melee attacks for a devastating combo.

13:58 - The second ancestor is directly across from this Loa Stone. You'll have to jump forward, land on the arch, then jump forward again to get the ancestor. Be sure to get the health if you need it.

14:43 - The Akuji mask refills all your health, regardless of how much you have. Save them for when you need them.

15:10 - You'll have to make your way to the top while fighting enemies and avoiding retracting spikes to hit switches and allow access to another Loa Stone.

18:01 - The third ancestor.

18:34 - The fourth ancestor.

19:16 - The Ring of Death is useful against these guys. Also, look behind the spirit gate for voodoo dolls.

20:14 - The Baron opens up Discord.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 3 of 14

Puzzle solving is now becoming a thing as we complete our quest to gather the souls of ancestors for Baron Samedi and return to our bride. Hitting switches and using mirrors to see hidden platforms will be the main ones here, but don't be surprised if the level design gets a little more complex later on.

0:44 - The intro for Khalas.

1:05 - The zombies here will want to kick you in the face.

1:28 - Hit switches to open up the path ahead.

1:43 - Hey, free fireballs!

2:20 - Careful shooting and jumping is needed for this Loa Stone.

4:30 - Hold the crouch button and use Directional buttons to swing Akuji while on monkey bars. Press jump while swinging to propel Akuji forwards or backwards. There is a rhythm to which you have to press Up, then Down, then Up, then Down over and over until you can get jump forward that you need once you press X. With some practice, you'll be able to get the first ancestor.

5:51 - Be careful not to get hit by the whirling blade columns or fall into the yellow acid. The square platforms in this area will tilt as you move around on them.

6:27 - The second ancestor. This one is easy to miss.

7:48 - The yellow skull with the sparks coming out of it is the Doom Blast. This creates a very damaging explosion.

8:07 - Our first extra life off soul fragments.

8:23 - Use the red mirror to find out where to jump so you can land on the invisible platforms.

11:51 - We saw the third ancestor behind a gate earlier, but we couldn't get it. Hitting this wooden post with a fireball opens up the door on that gate.

14:05 - More mirror madness. The mask is just there for show.

14:55 - The fourth and final ancestor in Khalas.

15:52 - The switch puzzle.

17:19 - The platforms leading to Vastu. If you fall down, there is a ladder at the beginning you can climb up to start again.

17:58 - The battle with Vastu. After taking out the reapers, smack the mask with Doom Blast once it is exposed.

19:26 - You can now face Mahdi and continue to the second vestibule.

PrinceWatercress plays Dynamite Duke (GEN/MD) - Mission 6 and 7

The last two missions of the game are pretty short. We get to destroy a laboratory generator, then we get to face a boss with THREE phases! Once we beat the final boss, we get to destroy the enemy forces once and for all and the game ends.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 2 of 14

The next level of the game takes place in the rainy reaches of Pluton, where we have to hit switches to reach the exit and even return to previous points to find things that weren't there before. We have a mission from Baron Samedi to complete if we want to go back to the land of living, and we have no choice but to go through with it.

2:34 - Akuji's words at the beginning of the level.

3:03 - Waiting at the sides will give you two flaming red skulls. These give you Hell Blast, which is a more powerful projectile than the rapid fire shot in Fire Burst that we got in Cocytus.

3:52 - Press the Crouch Button (default button is L2) while running to evade enemies with a forward roll. Press Attack while rolling to perform a rolling kick. (I've mentioned this before.)

4:52 - Be careful when you're down here for the Loa Stone; there are enemies about. Also, look around for health, Hell Blast pick-ups and voodoo dolls. You'll also find a non-flaming red skull that is dripping blood which gives you Shield of Blood. You only have a few uses of it, but when active, you can move up to enemies and absorb their health into your own.

6:25 - Placing the Loa Stone at the beginning will open up this grate.

7:00 - Hit the green switch here to open the grate. Watch out for reaper enemies as you approach the green teleportation gate and look around for pick-ups. When you head back towards the gate, more reaper enemies will approach, and there will be another legless zombie near the gate.

8:21 - Drop back down the grate for the first ancestor. This is very easy to miss.

9:40 - The altar here will refill your magic if you've used it all. Also, there is another Loa Stone here.

10:00 - Here, you can get more castings of Shield of Blood as well as the second ancestor.

10:59 - Try shooting spells while looking around. You can shoot down the switch here to trigger it. This will light a torch.

11:16 - The spinning boxes spawn reaper enemies. Destroy them with your blades.

11:43 - By hitting the nearby floor switch, the other torch is lit and the gate is up.

13:03 - The third ancestor.

13:22 - Dropping down here takes you to your fourth ancestor. Be sure to look around for it; you probably saw it earlier.

15:14 - As you do, you'll see four switches. Hit them all to light four torches and open up another gate.

15:25 - Hit this guy with your blades as you corner him. He means business.

16:17 - Destroying the four spawning boxes to open up the exit. Don't forget to get the voodoo dolls behind the spirit gate.

18:25 - Baron Samedi opens up the path to Khalas.

PrinceWatercress plays Akuji The Heartless - Part 1 of 14

We were murdered on our wedding day. Our bride, Kesho? Kidnapped. The culprit? Our brother. Our mission? To escape the underworld and find a way back to the land of the living so we can save our tribe and that of our bride's.

3:09 - Here are the controls. (The ones on-screen are the default controls.)

4:53 - The story. You have been murdered just before you could get married to your beloved Kesho and unite your two tribes. Now you have been condemned to the underworld...and the story has just begun.

6:48 - We now have control. Voodoo dolls will increase your health meter when you collect 100 of them. The purple skull gives you the Fire Burst, which allows you to shoot fireballs. The gray skull gives you Soul Seeker, which acts as a homing shot. Be sure to strike wooden pillars and pots to find pick-ups.

8:30 - Your first enemy. Chop the sandworm up with the Circle button. The Soul Fragments that enemies pick up will give you an extra life when you collect 100.

8:54 - An ancestor. There are four of these in every stage, and by collecting ancestors, you will be able to access more of the game.

9:44 - I start showing off the hint tablets, which you strike with Circle to get hints. Holding down the Jump button (default button is X) allows you to jump higher.

9:58 - Use the camera rotation buttons (default buttons are L1 and R1) to adjust the camera position.

10:21 - Going into first-person view (default button is R2) with a projectile spell equip gives you cross-hairs perfect for hitting enemies from a distance. Just aim with the Control Pad or left stick.

10:55 - The first of many healing hearts. The bigger the heart, the more health you will refill.

11:33 - Tap the Look Around button (default button is R2) to move the camera behind Akuji.

11:44 - Go in here to enter a room. Besides the second ancestor in the level, you will also find a switch that you will need to stop a gear and continue on with Cocytus, the first level in the game. Take out the grim reaper in the red robe before he tries to do the same to you. To get to the switch, just move past the pushers in the wall by jumping over them or moving past them when they go into the wall. From there, you'll find a plate to push near the second ancestor. Press Circle to push the plate and stop the gear.

12:55 - Kesho will tell you what has happened: you and your wedding guests were murdered by your brother Orad, who has trapped your beloved Kesho with magic. Now your and Kesho's families are preparing for war, and Orad is preparing to sacrifice Kesho to the gods. We must find a spirit gate and journey to Navo and seek an audience with Baron Samedi if we are to escape the underworld and get revenge.

14:01 - By holding L2 while moving, you can perform acrobatics whenever you jump and attack.

14:20 - This wingless bird will charge at you if it sees you. Be ready to cut it to ribbons or blast it into oblivion.

14:45 - Strike the blue diamond checkpoints with your melee weapon (default button is Circle) to activate them. If you die, you'll go back to the last checkpoint you hit.

15:00 - The giant dragonflies will fly around, but they can be easily destroyed by pressing the jump and attack buttons simultaneously or with magic.

15:30 - Loa stones can be used to unlock doors and open up more of the levels. When you collect a loa stone, place it on an altar by walking up to an altar and press the attack button (default button is Circle).

16:52 - The third ancestor in Cocytus. This one can be easy to miss. It's in a pot where you find the loa stone in the level.

17:07 - While hanging, Akuji may not cast spells, but he can use his legs to attack (default button is Circle).

17:11 - Don't destroy this wooden pillar; instead, jump on top of it, then jump onto the mesh ceiling that you're expected to climb across to get some voodoo dolls.

Jumping into the mesh platform from underneath lets you climb across it with the Control Pad or left stick. You will need to kick while climbing to activate the hint tablet. Press the Jump button to let go of the grate. Be sure to move to the end before doing so; that way, you don't get pushed back by the waterfall when you land.

18:46 - While climbing a wall, Akuji cannot cast spells or attack. Just like last time, climb onto a climbable thing onto a wall just by jumping into it, then move with the Control Pad or left stick.

19:11 - These voodoo dolls can be tough to grab. You'll need to jump carefully to the part of the level where they are at in order to run up to them and grab them.

22:01 - This switch opens a gate to more of the level.

22:11 - Jump into this vine to grab it and slide to another platform. Inside the wooden pillar is the fourth and last ancestor in the level.

23:05 - The final room. Push the stone in the center of the room forward to open up a room leading to the spirit gate just my moving into it, and take out the two grim reaper enemies that are in the room. The spirit gate will take you to Navo and Baron Samedi.

24:51 - Akuji arrives in Navo and meets Baron Samedi. Samedi thanks you for clearing Cocytus of your ancestors, and tells you that your family has always been evil and taint the realms of the dead with their spirits. In return for collecting your ancestors' souls and purging them, Samedi will let you return to the land of the living when you find and purge enough. You'll also have to beat the wardens to cleanse some powerful souls and move on with the game.

Baron Samedi will open up the road to Pluton, where you will have to destroy some lightning spires that block the spirit gate. Before you head off, save your game by walking up to the save tablet.
