PrinceWatercress plays Sly 2: Band of Thieves - Part 2 of 49


Each episode of the game has thirty clue bottles. We're getting all of them for Episode 1 in this video while I explain some gameplay stuff and basic survival skills.

Episode 1: The Black Chateau

The first episode takes place in Paris, France, where a lounge lizard, art forger and underworld celebrity named Dimitri runs a nightclub on the west side of the city. He has his hands on the Clockwerk Feathers, though why he has them is not known...yet.

The stage begins with Sly making his way to the safe house, and from here, you'll be able to choose your character (you can only play as Sly for now) and accessing ThiefNet. Accessing ThiefNet allows you to buy gadgets with the coins you've gotten as well as sell loot that you have stolen off enemies.

Once you pick Sly, you'll automatically get a cutscene where Bentley will tell you to do some recon work and hack into Dimitri's satellite array. You'll also learn about the start beacons for all of the missions you'll do in an area. Use the L3 button (press the left analog stick) to look around for them, and remember that for best results, stick to the rooftops to find where you need to go for mission objectives. Pressing L3 will allow you to see where the beacons are, and if you can't find it, use the right analog stick to look up and look around. You can also use the L3 button to find the safe house, too. It's the big yellow S in the sky, in case you can't remember where the safe house is.

Before I do any mission objectives, however, I go hunting for clue bottles. The clue bottles are back from the first game, and there are thirty clue bottles in each episode. You'll need to find all thirty clue bottles for something a little later: a vault that is hidden somewhere in the episode. Thankfully, I spend a whole video in each episode doing nothing but looking for them. In case you're needing one, the numbers below should be able to help you.

The clue bottles can be a pain in the butt to find. You'll need to listen for that tell-tale "tinkling" sound, as all the clue bottles will make it when you are near one. Even then, you'll need to use the right analog stick to move the camera around to see if the sound gets quieter or louder as you move it around so you can see where it is. As long as you can do that, you can find the clue bottles quickly.

The sparkles show where you can not only tiptoe across narrow areas, but also hide underneath things and stand on top of things.

As Sly, you can get behind enemies and press the Circle button to steal from them. If their pocket is flashing, you can get a treasure from them and sell it on ThiefNet for some extra money. Be careful, as running straight into an enemy will alert them and cause them to come after you and attack you.

You can also get behind enemies, knock enemies up into the air with Triangle and slam them down with Square if you are playing as Sly. Be careful when using this move, as enemies who are nearby will hear it.

The frog enemies will call for other nearby enemies to show up and come to your neck of the woods if they see you, and they will also try to hit you with their megaphones. Meanwhile, the rats will try to attack you. If enemies throw rocks at you, that means they can still see you. You'll need to run a good distance away from them so that they can . Thankfully, holding R1 lets you run with the D-Pad or left analog stick as opposed to just walking. Just be careful when you're running: enemies will be able to hear you if you're running near them.

If you have to fight enemies, hit them once, then back away so their counter-attack does not hit you. From there, hit them again. When they drop coins, they are defeated. Sometimes enemies will drop red crosses. These will refill your health, so if you need them, pick them up. You can also get coins and health from destroying objects randomly, so destroy whatever you can.

In this game, you have a health meter in the upper-left corner, meaning you don't die in a few hits like in the first game. If this runs out, you'll get sent back to the safehouse. Thankfully, you have infinite lives in this game as opposed to the limited lives you had in the first game, so dying isn't much of a problem. The health meter also doubles as an enemy alert indicator; rings will spread out from the center when you are close to enemies, and the character icon will flash red if you have been spotted. If you can stay out of sight for a little while, the icon will stop flashing.

Circle: Action button (near blue/green/purple sparkles and character icons); pickpocket (as Sly)

L3 (press the left analog stick): locate beacons for mission objectives

R3 (press the right analog stick): Enter and exit Binocucom for first-person view
  • Left analog stick: look around
  • Right analog stick: zoom in and out (with up and down on right stick)
