PrinceWatercress plays Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament - Part 1 of 20

If you though the first GBA game was hard, wait until you get a load of this one. This one is better, but it's far more demanding if you want 100%.

After the events of the first game, Klonoa teleports away after beating the final boss of Empire of Dreams to somewhere a lot more peaceful. A ticket falls down from the sky. Klonoa catches it, and finds out it is a Dream Champ Tournament to decide who is the best warrior in all of the world. Upon reading it, Klonoa is immediately transported to the arena where the tournament takes place.

At the tournament, Klonoa meets Lolo and Popka, who originally appeared in Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. Suddenly, Garlen, the sponsor of the tournament, addresses all of the participants, who are all famous heroes, and wants to know who the top hero in Dream World is. During the announcement, Klonoa, Lolo and Popka are suddenly bumped into by Gantz, the Golden Killer, who immediately comes across as a jerk as everyone heads to the first round of the tournament. From there, the games commence.

From here, you are on the world map. The Western Jungle is the only place that is available, so you might as well go ahead and go there.

Western Jungle

When you enter Western Jungle, the qualifying match will begin, where the participants' abilities will be tested. Lolo is now confident in her abilities and heads off with Popka.

From there, you're on the World Map screen. While the Control Pad and the A button let you pick and choose stages, Vision 1-1 is the only one available. You might as well head there.

Vision 1-1

The controls are the exact same as the last game. A lets you Jump, holding A lets you hover, B lets you fire the Wind Bullet, Left and Right let you move around, Up lets you enter doors and Down lets you move towards the foreground.

Just like in the last game, using the B button lets you grab an enemy with the Wind Bullet, and grabbing an enemy and pressing A twice while carrying an enemy lets you double jump in mid-air.

When you start the stage for the first time, you'll meet Nagapoko, a robot made by Garlen who gives hints. Go up to Nagapoko and press Up to talk to him when you see him for hints and messages.

In the first section, you'll learn a new command: holding R and using the Control Pad lets you look around the room. This is very useful, as you can see if you missed anything.

Go right, grab the Muu, and get the three green Dream Stones at the start. The next Nagapoko will tell you about grabbing enemies, which you should already know how to do at this point. Use the Muus here to get the two green Dream Stones - and the heart, which will refill a hit point - and to continue further to the right. You'll also be able to grab a Klonoa Medal for an extra life this way. Grab the Flying Muu that you see for seven more Dream Stones (just like in the last game, the blue one is worth five), then head right to the next section.

Grab the Muu that you see and use it to get the spinning yellow icon. That is a Sun Stone, and there is one in every regular Vision in the game. You'll need them all to complete the game at 100% and get a nice surprise at the end. The nearby Nakapoko will tell you about it. From there, use another Muu to go over the wall to the right, then go right and grab the Moon Stone. The nearby Nagapoko will tell you about them, and just like the last game, they let you enter the exit door. Grab another Flying Muu and jump into the tornado to get three dream stones. Continue to the right, ans use the Flying Muu to go up the pair of tornadoes near the end of the section for two more Dream Stones. From here, you can head to the next section.

Get the three green Dream Stones at the start of the section, then use another one to break the box in your path. The nearby Nagapoko will tell you that throwing enemies at wooden crates will destroy the crates. To the right, use a flying Muu to double jump to the left for the second Moon Stone, and use another Flying Muu to break the next box for five Dream Stones. Go right, destroy the crates with the Muu, then jump into the tornadoes for Dream Stones. You should have 30 at this point. You'll need to double jump with a Muu to get the third and last Dream Stone to the right. From there, go underneath the platform where the last Moon Stone was and enter the door to clear the vision.

This time around, when you clear a Vision, you'll get a ranking. The lowest ranking you can get is C, and the highest is S. To get an S, you must collect all the Dream Stones and the Sun Stone, you cannot get hit once, and you cannot pause the game and select the "Retry" option at any point within the stage. You must be absolutely perfect, and getting S ranks in every stage will net you a surprise at the end of the and give you a 100% clear.

Also, getting all the Dream Stones in a stage will open up a piece of artwork for the Dream Gallery. There is one piece of artwork for every world in the game, and you'll have to find all the Dream Stones to see them all.

Vision 1-2

Go to the right, grab the flying Muu and get the Dream Stones, then use the Muu to double jump over to the right. The nearby Nagapoko will tell you about the Muu Boxes, which can be used over and over again for throwing and double jumping unlike the game's single-use enemies. Grab the Muu Box with a wind bullet to get the nearby Dream Stones as well as to get up to the platforms where you can get the first Moon Stone and the rest of the Dream Stones that are here. You should have 11 Dream Stones at this point. From here, head right to the next section.

Throw the box to the right, then grab a Muu, jump into the tornado and double jump for eight more Dream Stones. Drop down, get another Muu, go back to the platform to the right of the tornado, jump to the right to get two more Dream Stones, then talk to Nagapoko. The Nagapoko will tell you about the key above you that will unlock the nearby door. Double jump to the key and grab it, then walk through the door to the next section. Unlike Empire of Dreams, which had three different key types, you only have the one in the sequel. The key will show up in the upper-left corner of the screen when you get it.

Go to the right and get the Dream Stones as you go, and when you see the box, throw it to the left. Grab the Flying Muu, go left, throw it at the wooden crate that you see, then go left. You'll be able to get the Sun Stone for this vision. From here, head back, and use the box and the Flying Muu to get the second Moon Stone and three Dream Stones as well as to go to the next section.

The Nagapoko will tell you about the Goomis. By grabbing them with the Wind Bullet, you can jump to other areas. Grab the Goomi, jump to the right, grab the Dream Stones that you see, then continue right. Use the two Goomis you see to get the last of the Dream Stones as well as the third Moon Stone, then enter the exit door.

Vision 1-3

Go left at the beginning with the Goomi to get a Muu, then double jump to the left for five Dream Stones. Get another Muu, go right and get the two Dream Stones, then double jump to the right with the Muu. Go right, grab the Goomi that is moving up and down, Grab the Muu, get the Moon Stone to the left, get the Muu again, then double jump above the wooden crate to break it for an extra lfie. Use the flying Muu to get back up, then head right and use the Goomis to get two more Dream Stones and enter the next section.

Get the two Dream Stones with the nearby box, then jump on the platform that moves up and down with the box in hand. Double jump to the right. The nearby Nagapoko will give you a message from Lolo, who states that she is doing fine. Grab the flying Muu, get on the green platform, then jump left and double jump with the Flying Muu to get two Dream Stones and the second Moon Stone. From here, you can go right tot he next section.

Climb the pink and purple ladders to go right and get Dream Stones as you go. Just grab Up while in front of them to hold on to the ladder, then use Up and Down to climb up and down. Grab the Goomi that is moving up and down for three more Dream Stones, then use the box below as a means of returning to the start of this section by throw it to the left once you go as far left as you can with it. From there, grab a Muu, go all the way to the left, and use the Muus to break the two wooden crates near the Nagapoko. The Nagapoko will tell you that you can alternately pressing Up and A on ladders is a faster way of climbing up the ladders. One of the two crates will contain the Sun Stone and an extra life; collect them. From here, return to the right and jump across the Goomis to go up the ladder to the upper-right.

Jump into the tornadoes to go up and get two Dram Stones. Grab the Flying Muu to the right to get the big blue Dream Stone that you saw on the way to the right. The nearby Nagapoko contains a message from Popka, who tells you that the Float Board stages have returned. Grab the Flying Muu again, and jump onto the platforming moving up and down wiht it for the last Moon Stone. From here, use another Flying Muu to get to the door. Hover for the last three Dream Stones, then go back to the door and enter it to exit the stage.
