The red monster in the next room protects the Goddess Bell. Talk to it, and you'll start a boss battle.

To beat the Adamantoise (Adamanti), just use the Arctic Wind on it. That's it. If you don't have it or don't want to, pile on Blizzard attacks.

Once you beat the Adamantoise, use the A button on the wall and you'll be able to get the Goddess Bell from behind where the Adamantoise was standing.

When you try to use Teleport, you won't be able to do anything because of an energy field in the Snow Cave. If you exit normally, however, you'll come face to face with Borghen. Remove all equipment from Joseph before facing him, and equip the Ancient Sword on Firion.

To beat Borghen (who is a Rank 4 enemy), use Fire, Blizzard and any equipped Mythril weapons on him. The less you have equipped on your characters, the better. The Ancient Sword will do wonders if you can somehow hit Borghen with Curse. The higher your Strength, the more likely you'll be able to hit with it.

After you beat Borghen, a giant boulder will roll toward you. Josef will try to stop the boulder from killing you, and sacrifices himself in the process.

Salamand

When you return to Salamand, everyone will know that Josef is dead. Another woman will look after his daughter Nellie.

One of the people will tell you about the Chocobo Forest south of Kashuan.

Be sure to buy a few Ethers as well as the Life spell for Guy before moving on.
