HCBailly plays StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge - Part 2 of 15


In this entry, we go after Yum Yum and save the children of the village before being pulled somewhere else in the time-space continuum.

Now that you have Tink's ax, you'll be able to attack with more range. Also, get used to attacking diagonally, now that you can move in such a fashion. It will prove useful.

The blue lizards will take a few hits to go down, and they will charge at you like the boars do.

In the first big room with all the enemies, go back west after you hear the sound of a passage opening upon defeating all the enemies. You'll find a passage that leads to a medicine jar. Just like in the first game, drinking this will refill five hearts' worth of health.

While jumping onto platforms, remember that you have to actively jump into the water to fall into it and die; you can't just walk into it. Also, you can change the direction of your jump in mid-air, so be careful.

It is possible to walk on water, though it is a bit of a glitch. If you take damage from an enemy at the same time you land on a water tile, the game treats it as you standing on solid ground, and you can take a shortcut over the water. This is called a "void jump" by speed runners of the game.
 
The bears take quite a bit of damage before going, and they will usually came at you if you are lined up with them horizontally or vertically. Instead of moving into you, they will swipe at you with their claws, and it will hurt.

The white zombies only take a few hits, but they hurt if they touch you. The yellow bears take more hits than the blue ones, but can be handled exactly the same way.

After fending off three yellow bears simultaneously, you'll see a maze with multiple paths in each room. If you've paid attention to the drawings near Pikazo in the caveman village, you already know what it is: Circle, Circle, Triangle, Square, Circle, Square, Triangle. Thankfully, there are no enemies in the maze. If you take a wrong turn, you'll be forced to exit the dungeon and start all over again.

To beat Yum-Yum, throw axes at him while lined up with him vertically. Avoid the bubbles that he spits out, either by moving out of the way of the bubbles or by jumping into them. Yum-Yum will move around clockwise in a rectangular fashion, and if he is at the back of the room, focus more on dodging his bubbles. You can either destroy the pig enemy that is in front of him, or you can line yourself up vertically with Yum-Yum at the start instead and start whacking away at him, getting a few easy hits in in the process...or even beating him without having to see any of his attacks, if you're fast enough!

Just like in the first game, you'll get a chime that plays repeatedly if you are low on health.

Once you beat Yum-Yum, head west and follow the path. You'll soon meet the kids that Yum-Yum kidnapped. They will tell you that Yum-Yum was trying to fatten them up, and that Yum-Yum would have eaten them for sure if it were not for you. One of the kids will be Pikazo's son. After the kids leave, follow the path east and you'll collect what looks like a T-shaped Tetris block. Continue east to leave the cave, then go south when you're on the overworld.

You'll be contacted telepathically by Mica again. She will tell you that you have travelled back in time to the Ice Age, and that her father may have known something would have happened when the cipher was solved. She thinks that King Hirocon wants you to find the Mystic Tetrads, blocks that were hidden on Earth somewhere in time which so happen to be the legacy of the Argonians. (In the Wii U release, they are just called blocks.) Mica asks you to find the Tetrads, then disappears again. Mike will then realize that he has already picked up a Tetrad in the cave, then you will get two more hearts for your maximum health.

The Oxford Wonder World then opens up again, and the magic words are once again chanted. Mike then goes elsewhere in time...
