PrinceWatercress plays Bonk's Adventure (Game Boy) - Part 1 of 6

It's time once again to fight King Drool...this time on the Game Boy!

Round 1

The controls are simple enough. Left and Right moves Bonk around, A jumps and B attacks. A mid-air attack does double damage than just headbutting on the ground. Also, pressing B repeatedly while in mid-air lets you float, so keep holding Left or Right while jumping from a high place as you keep pressing B to cover more ground if you need to.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll see your health, your current amount of lives and your current score. You have a few hit points per heart, so take care of yourself out there. You'll get an extra life at 5,000 points.

The smiley faces will help heal you when you finish a round.

The guys with the eggshells on their heads take one mid-air headbutt, while the dinosaur with eyes that look like eyeglasses takes two of them. On the first hit, he will run back and forth looking worried, so put him out of his misery.

The flowers sometimes act as springboards for jumping, and you can press A as soon as you land on them to get a higher height. Others will give you food for health and points, and some will give you meat. Meat allows for an extra hit without losing health and a shockwave attack by attacking in mid-air and hitting the ground when you eat one piece, and two pieces allow for powerful shouting attacks on the ground and temporary invincibility. A few of them turn into evil flowers that try to damage you; hit them with mid-air headbutts to more easily defeat them and get points.

In the second section, you can bounce on clouds. Since you can't hold the jump button to get extra height, your best bet is to bounce up on one at the very edge, then hold the direction you want to go and repeatedly press B to glide in that direction. This will allow you to pick up some smiley faces as well as a Bonk icons that gives you an extra life.

Sometimes, Bonk can grab onto a wall with his teeth. You can press the jump button repeatedly to climb up. Hold Up and press A to jump up and over an edge when you reach the top. You can also jump at the middle of the wall to ascend even faster.

The tulips take you to bonus areas. The first bonus area you'll see has you climbing up a wall. The faster you get to the top, the more bonus points you get.

The third section of the round is in a desert. Jump over the cacti so they don't hurt you. The egg-shpaed guys that run forward take one hit to kill. The dinosaurs take four ground-based headbutts to defeat. Wait for them to jump at you, then back up a bit and headbutt them when they hit the ground next to you. Keep your distance after each one so you don't get hurt.

Hearts fill up an entire heart's worth of health, so pick them up if you need them.

By jumping into the dinosaur skull platform, you'll be taken to a boss battle. The first one is against a Triceratops tank. Jump into the air, perform a mid-air headbutt and hit the tank in the back. Landing head-first on the horns will hurt you, so don't do it. The boss doubles back just before reaching the other side when going from one side of the screen to the other, so keep that in mind and go for the headbutt as soon as it stops. It shouldn't take you long to defeat it and head to Round 2.
