HCBailly plays Final Fantasy II AGAIN - Part 1 of 65

Yep, he's playing it again...and a lot more has been learned about the game this time around.

This LP uses the Chaos Rush translation as opposed to the NeoDemiForce translation from the first one.

A long-lived peace is over. The Emperor of Palamecia has summoned monsters from Hell to begin whis campaign for world conquest. A rebel army arose in the Kingdom of Fynn to stop the Empire. However, Castle Fynn has fallen, and the rebels escaped to the town of Altair. Four youths from Fynn, their parents killed by the Empire, flee from imperial forces...

The names of the characters you'll be naming are (in order) Firion, Leon, Maria and Guy.

You'll immediately start the game in battle mode, fighting against four Dark Knights (DkKnight). Firion looks kinda like the Fighter, and the rest of our characters look pretty awesome as well. We're gonna die, so don't worry about winning. It's part of the storyline.

The battles in this game are much like those of the first game. Interestingly, enemies in this game can only attack front row characters with physical attacks, and back row characters can only be attacked with spells. Also, you cannot perform physical attacks from the back row, either. If all the front characters are taken out, the back row immediately moves to the front due to there being no front row anymore.

Attack lets you perform physical attacks, Flee lets you run from a battle, Magic lets you cast magic, and Items lets you use one of two items equipped on the current character.

There is also no auto-targeting, so if a character strikes at an enemy that has just been killed, they'll just strike at the air and hit nothing.

Altair

The game then takes you to a shrine. A woman named Hilda has found you while fleeing Fynn, and she has decided to go ahead and heal you with the help of another young healer named Minwu. They head out for a meeting just before you wake up, and Hilda mentions that if the Empire completes the Dreadnought they're building in Bafsk, they will strike. When you go down the stairs, you'll reunite with Maria and Guy, but Leon was nowhere to be found.

Firion and the others will meet Hilda, who turns out to be the a princess of some sort. She is reluctant to let you join the rebel army, but she lets you stay in Altair. She tells you about the Wild Rose, the crest of Fynn and the secret password of the rebel army. You'll be able to learn the password in the next few seconds: select "Learn" to learn the password, then you can use "Ask" to use the term whenever necessary. Say it to Hilda and she'll tell you that Fynn stands and that it's a good place to start hunting for Leon, but it has grown dangerous since the Empire seized it.

The young man who brought you here with her is Minwu. He'll tell you to head towards Fynn. If you say "Wild Rose" to him, he'll tell you to heed well the information it will bring you, implying that you should use the password on others. Try that out. Who knows what will result?

You'll learn about the lake city of Paloom, which you cannot access until you get a Canoe.

You'll also find out that the King was critically injured, and that after Hilda fled to Altair, she picked up the pieces and became the new leader of the rebel movement. Outside of the rebel base, you'll meet Paul, the world's greatest thief. He does not steal from rebels, and that Fynn is his hometown.

By talking to people, you'll find out that Prince Gordon of Kashuan is hiding in Altair, and that something has made him lose faith in himself. You'll also find out that the imperial forces have not made it here yet.

The Potion will refill a little bit of your HP.

The item shop is for potions and status curing items. The magic shop is for buying tomes that teach spells to party members. The weapons shop lets you buy weapons.

As you talk to everybody here, you'll meet up with Prince Gordon of Kashuan. He abandoned his kingdom and his brother Scott to flee to Altair, and he considers himself to be a coward because of it. You'll also learn about Tobul, the blacksmith of Altair who seems to be bothered by something at the moment. If you enter the weapons shop, talk to the old man and use the "Wild Rose" phrase, you'll find out he's Tobul.

The house of healing can be used to revive dead party members.
