In this entry, we head to Salamand and find out that all of the male folk are missing!
The Goblins aren't that hard if you've brought Thunder (or Fire) to Level 2. Just cast it on all of them and almost all of them will be killed. They have an attack called Bow that will strike you for considerable damage even if the target character is in the back row, but if you lay waste to them as quickly as possible, you won't have to worry about it very much. The Goblin Guards are pretty similar to the Green Goblins, but have 30 HP.
The Queen Bee is a purple and yellow recolor of the Hornet. It can inflict the Envenom status, which is similar to Poison but does not disappear after battle and must be cured. If a character ends a battle with Envenom (or any other status ailment), they are unable to get any stat gains until it is cured.
Salamand
When you enter the town, you'll notice that all the townspeople outside (all three of them) are women. All of the men have been forced to mine Mithril in Semitt Falls to the southwest.
The girl is standing next to Josef's house. Go in the house to talk to Josef and say "Wild Rose." He'll think your party is too young to find any. Say "Mithril" and he'll tell you that he hasn't found any yet, but that he has a few leads. He'll also tell you that a bunch of people in the town have been forced to work in the cave at Semitt Falls. If you rescue them, he'll tell you something. He knows about the Dreadnought, but if you asks about the Airship, he will refuse to tell you anything about Cid.
The Sap spell attacks enemies' MP, while the Life spell revives fallen allies (much like a Phoenix Down). The Life spell is probably the most useful purchase you can make at the Salamand magic shop. Warp will teleport you back to the previous floor in a dungeon, while Teleport takes you out completely while nearly wiping out all of your HP. Warp is black magic, while Teleport is white magic, and both can be used as instant death spells against enemies in battle, and the accuracy of these attacks are supplemented by your Intellect and Spirit attacks (depending on which one you use).
If you're grinding HP for Maria by having her cast a spell on herself and kills herself in battle that way, do not cast Life on her: for some reason, the game stores her action in that round and she will end up dying again. (HCBailly's words, not mine.)
The armor and weapon shops don't have much that are new. At this point, HCBailly buys a Bronze Shield.
