HCBailly plays Final Fantasy II AGAIN - Part 10 of 65

In this entry, we go further into the Semitt Cave and have our first big fight with the Empire.

HCBailly mentions that every enemy has a "morale" stat that dictates how likely an enemy is going to run away. This stat is also weighed against the current HP of your entire party, as well. However, they are more likely to run away if you are able to run away.

If someone is running low on HP or MP, you can have Minwu cast Swap on that particular party member to refill them a little bit.

You'll be able to find a Fire Tome for free here.

The G. Slimes (Green Slimes) are susceptible to both Fire and Ice. That's good, as their physical defense is really, really high. They can also Poison you, and are strong against being Poisoned. They are a Rank 2 enemy, and the higher the rank, the tougher the enemy is, and this is a factor in how much experience you get in everything you do to it. Fight tougher enemies to get tougher! Just remember to make sure the party of monster is full of high-rank monsters; otherwise, you'll only get as much experience as you would from the lowest-ranked enemy in the enemy party. If you have a bunch of high-ranked enemies and a Rank 1 enemy, you'll only get experience equal to what you would get from the Rank 1 enemy no matter what.

There are two doors on the last floor. Again, enter the left door to fight the boss. Before you do that, though, walk across the bridge to the west.

When you open the chest with the Teleport spell, you'll trigger a fixed encounter. The Land Turtle (LandTrtl) is Rank 3 and weak to Ice. If you have the Ice spellbook from earlier in the dungeon equipped on a character as an item, it can then be used as an item to cast a Level 8 Ice spell that damages all enemies. This will kill the Land Turtle really quickly. Otherwise, hit the Land Turtle with the best of what you've got and protect yourself accordingly.

Unlike other Final Fantasy games, casting the Teleport spell drains the HP of the caster. The higher the level of Exit, the less it'll drain. It won't drain very little unless you really level it up. The amount you'll have will be 1 divided 17 minus the level of the spell. It can also be used as an instant death spell, and the better the spell's level and the better your Spirit stat, the better it will work.

Once you go through the left door, you'll finally take on your first boss: the Sergeant Captain. Put everyone except Minwu in the back row. Have Minwu cast Blink on himself (it will raise his Evade), and use Black Magic to take the Sergeant Captain down. Having Level 3 Fire works well here. This guy has a Bow attack like the Soldiers - but more powerful - but with Minwu having a high evade and everyone else in the back row, the Sergeant Captain still won't be able to pose much of a threat. You can also cast Fog on the Sergeant Captain to keep him from using Bow.

The Soldiers can sometimes drop Garlic, which can do quite a bit of damage against undead enemies.

Once you beat the Sergeant Captain, you'll finally be able to open the chest behind him and get the Mythril.

The Zombie and the Deadhead are also in the Semite Cave, but for some reason HCBailly never meets up with them here. You can easily destroy them with a powered-up Life spell.
