PrinceWatercress plays King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride - Part 16 of 18

First I had to fix some audiovisual desync, then I had to do some post-commentary during editing because my headset wasn't plugged in all the way. Murphy's Law, folks.

Head back to the kids' house. The kids will be chasing the black cat with a string of firecrackers, and one of the firecrackers will fall off. Grab the firecracker; you'll be needing it soon. Take it to the mausoleum where Lord Tsepish is interred, and use it on the door to blow the door open. If you are playing any version before 2.0 and you keep this object on you for too long, THE FIRECRACKER WILL EXPLODE AND YOU WILL DIE. Thankfully, you will still have the lit firecracker, and you can start back where you left off.

Head into the mausoleum. Click on the lid with the dog on it to open the stone casket, then click on the open space to pull out Lord Tsepish's head. From here, leave the mausoleum, take the head out of the inventory and click on Lord Tsepish when you see him on his way in. WARNING: IF YOU ARE TOO CLOSE TO HIM AND YOU WAIT TOO LONG, HE WILL RUN YOU OVER AND YOU WILL DIE.

When you give Lord Tsepish his head back, Tsepish will be himself again, albeit dead. Lord Tsepish will thank you for bringing his head back to him and lifting the curse. The dog, whose name is Black Valiant, will show up. Lady Tsepish will also show up, and she will be normal again, even though she is also dead from her grief for him. (She also comes out from the mausoleum, which is technically impossible since she wasn't in there.) Lord Tsepish will ask Valanice what he can do for her in return, and Valanice asks for passage to Etheria. Lord Tsepish gives her a fife to call his horse Necromancer, and you will be able to fly to Etheria. Once in Etheria, you cannot summon Necromancer as he will not be able to hear you.

You can call Necromancer for a ride to Etheria anywhere in the surface world, but if you do it in the woods of the were-folk, VALANICE WILL DIE as she will go to the other side in order to use the fife and run into the were-beast as a result. You've been warned.

The four rainbows on the first screen of Etheria will take you to certain locations. The upper-left rainbow takes you to Colin Farwalker's remains in the Desert of Death; the upper-right rainbow takes you to Falderal; the lower-left rainbow takes you to the gate to Ooga Booga and the lower-right rainbow takes you to the maiden statues in the forest.

To the east is a set of group of fairies. When you enter the screen, they will surround you, and you will hear four notes. This happens every time you enter the screen. Remember those four notes; you'll need them for later. (The fairies also happen to reset your speed.)

Further to the east is a spiraling path leading to the top of a mountain. As you fly around, you'll see a wind horse flying around, as well as a black wind spirit who will devour you in one gulp if you run into him. WHICH MEANS YOU WILL DIE, so be careful. He can also show up at the top of the path, and if he shows up, it's automatically game over. The wind horse can also knock you off the path, but he does not exactly kill you.

Click on the path to make your way up, and be careful. At the top, there is a cave. If you try to enter, you will be encounter a dangerous creature who will eat you on sight. YOU WILL DIE. ALSO, HE WILL LOOK DEAD AT THE PLAYER WITH HIS HANDS UP, AS IF HE JUST WON A MADDEN OR FIFA TOURNAMENT. I DON'T CARE, MR. GHOST. THAT DOESN'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO EAT ME. There is also a huge tree that leads to some ambrosia, but if you click on the ambrosia, you won't be able to reach it. Instead, click on the tree itself, then get the ambrosia. You're done here...for now. Click your way to the bottom.

If you give the faeries the ambrosia, you will hear even more of their song. Click the skip button that shows up above the inventory to get out of it. From the faeries, you can go north to a harp. In the distance, you can see the castle.

There are six strings on the harp, and from left to right is the lowest note to the highest. If you press the first, the fifth, the sixth and the fourth, you will play the melody of the fairies. The harp will then play the rest of the melody, and the orb on the top of the harp will glow. Normally, if you touch the orb, nothing happens, but if you touch it now, Valanice gets sucked in.

Valanice will then be floating in the cosmos with three women are cutting a string near what looks like a purple electric spark in a space-age cage. They are the Fates: Clotho, who spins the fates of women and men; Lachesis, who measures the fates; and Atropos, who severs the fates. Clicking on them will cause Valanice to talk to them, and they in turn will introduce themselves. Clicking on them again will have Valanice tell them about her search for Rosella as well as search for an audience with Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of Etheria. Sadly, Valanice will not be able to see them immediately as the king and queen have gone on a journey seeking their own lost child. Valanice is then told to take her case to Lady Mab, the lady of dreams. Lady Mab lives beyond the waking world, and one has to dream in order to meet her in a island of dreams and nightmares. Valanice will then be waved away, and she will return to Etheria. If you meet with the Fates again, they basically spell it out for you that you have to go to sleep.

It should be noted that the Fates are from Greek mythology, and that Oberon and Titania are named after characters from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream who were constantly at odds with each other.

In order to get to the land of dreams, we must first go to sleep. There is only one place to sleep at that we know of, assuming that we have been talking a lot to all the other characters: the coffin couch in Dr. Mort Cadaver's office in Ooga Booga. Go back to the rainbows and take the lower-left one. You'll land near the gate to Ooga Booga, and if you pass by the man-eating venus flytraps, they will try to sweet-talk you again. If you click on them, they will say they are nihilistic when Valanice asks them if they are worried about the volcano erupting. Clicking on them two more times will see Valanice say she knows she wants to eat.

When you approach the kids' house, the two neighborhood kids will be banging on pots and pans while celebrating the eventual eruption of the volcano. They then climb back up to the house and make their noise from there.

Head back to Dr. Mort Cadaver's office. This time, the sign saying he is out is gone. Knock on the door, and click on Dr. Mort Cadaver. Valanice will tell him about her attempt to meet Lady Mab, and Dr. Cadaver will tell you that the coffin in his office is comfortable and safe enough to sleep in. Clicking on Dr. Cadaver two more times will have Valanice have her misgivings about the whole thing, but the good doctor promises not to close the lid on her...or bury her, either.

There is a box of spare parts, but all Valanice does is ask about it in case you ever click on it before going to the dream world.

Apparently, Lady Mab is from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and is briefly mentioned by Mercutio in that play. No wonder I don't remember her.

From here, click on the coffin. Valanice will lie down, and Dr. Mort Cadaver will place a pink veil over her. The game will then cycle through the color spectrum faster than you can say "Windows Movie Maker," then you will be in the dream world. Nightmares will chase Valanice until she suddenly falls into the ocean. Valanice will then swim to an island (at least you don't have to tell her to do it) and enter some sort of building that looks like a Greek temple. An ice crystal will then roll towards Valanice, and Lady Mab will be seen frozen inside of the crystal. Valanice will then wake up and mention what she has seen to Dr. Mort Cadaver, then leave. After this, the sign will be over Dr. Cadaver's door again, so you won't be able to get back in.

From here, play the fife to return to Etheria.
