PrinceWatercress plays Mega Man 6 - Part 3 of 8

In this entry, we explain what a Yamato is, then take on two more Robot Masters. Interestingly, Tomahawk Man, Yamato Man and Knight Man have their own weakness loop.

Yamato Man

The word "Yamato" is basically an embodiment of Japan itself. It was originally the name of a Japanese province which was the center of politics and culture, and has since been used for all sorts of things beyond that, from people to battleships.

The yellow robots that shoot out balls at the beginning are easy to take out. The balls bounce, but you can shoot them down too.

There is a cracked barrel to the right of the first ladder, but you won't be able to break it yet.

The spearmen will twirl their spears before they throw them...and the spears still spin around like helicopter blades. You can only hit them when they're pulling out another spear, so you're going to be doing quite a bit of jumping before you can beat these guys.

The dragonflies (or what look like dragonflies) drop bombs near you. It's distance based, and it only looks like they're dropping it on you because you keep moving towards them when you shouldn't.

You'll come across huge robot with two AT-ST-like legs that shoot lasers at you. Hit them in the flashing eye on the head to get rid of them.

There is also an enemy that is a samurai robot with a topknot riding a large robot frog. Avoid the bombs that are thrown at you and aim for the frog's eyes to take it down.

The turrets shoot regular bullets. Watch out near the pits with the water at the bottom, as fish will jump out of them when you get close to the edge. Once again, skirt the edge to trigger their attack.

The oval-shaped robots with rotors are only vulnerable when they open their eye, look around and move towards you. Take care of them quickly.

The robots walking on the ceiling that look like upside-down oil cans will shoot straight down when you're near them. The bullets are easy to avoid. If you can take them out from a lower level by jumping and shooting, do it.

At one point, there is a choice between a top path and a bottom path. The top path leads to the "real" Yamato Man and the bottom path leads to the fake battle.

Yamato Man has two attacks. One has him jumping into the air while twirling his spear around, shooting a three-way shot at your present location. The other one has him shooting his spearhead at you while on the ground. Even if you avoid it, you'll have to avoid him as he has to retrieve his spearhead the old-fashioned way after he shoots it, which leaves him open to attack as he runs to it. He'll alternate between these two attacks at random.

Unless you've gotten the Silver Tomahawk from Tomahawk Man (or energy tanks, for that matter), you're going to have a hard time.

Beating Yamato Man gives you the Yamato Spear (Y.Spear), which works much like the spearhead throw attack. If you won the "real" battle, you'll get the Beat E-Parts.

Knight Man

To get rid of the barrel robots, shoot a Mega Buster shot at the barrel, then shoot at the robot when he peeks his head out. Avoid the pellets that it chucks at you as you do so.

Be careful around the spiked ceilings that slowly come down. They come back up very quickly, so you'll want to be ready to make your move when you either need to jump or come out of a safe spot.

The shield turrets are back. They shoot once at an angle, then shoot again straight ahead. You've seen this type of robot before, so hit them when the shield is up.

The wheels that turn are conveyor belts. Pay attention to which direction they rotate so you can see which direction they'll send you before you get on them.

The short robots that look like they're wearing graduation caps and glasses just walk back and forth. If you hit them once, however, they'll drop their glasses, get ticked off and rush right at you. Hit them again to take them out.

You'll need Rush Coil to get that energy tank.

The robot with spider legs can walk on ceilings and come down to the floor in their efforts to walk into you.

The green circles act like springs. They'll bounce you up and down as you run into them. Watch out for the low-lying spike robots.

At the end, you'll need to break the cracked block with the Power Armor to take the bottom path to the real Knight Man battle. Going right like you thing you normally would takes you to the fake one.

Knight Man jumps around and throws his mace at you. You'll want to jump over his mace and shoot him while's he's got it pulled out, as that's the only way you're going to hit him. You can also hit him from behind while he still has his shield up.

You need not jump up so that your Mega Buster goes over his weapon, as it can go through it and hit them. This makes it easier. You can also hit him with the Yamato Spear for more damage. It also goes through his defenses and can hit him even when he's standing still...so use it!

Beating Knight Man gives you the Knight Crusher (Knight.C). It works like you'd expect it to: just use it to shoot out a mace head. If you win the real battle, you'll get the Beat A-Parts.
