HCBailly and JB play Secret of Mana - Part 12 of 41

In this entry, we head back to the Water Palace only to find out that the Mana Seed is missing.

When you reach the end of the ruins, you'll meet Thanatos. Thanatos knows about you after what happened with Elinee, then reveals that he has drained Phanna's life energy and made her his servant, and says that he needs life energy to create his new world with the Mana Fortress. He also reveals that he has made Dyluck a servant, then drops your party into a room with spikes on the wall. You'll then fight a new enemy: Wall Face.

The oval in the center is the weak point, and is only vulnerable when it it opened. You can attack the eyes, which cast spells such as Speed Down, Flash Beam, Energy Absorb,  and Freeze on your party, but only disable one of them. If you disable both, you'll be pushed into a wall and be instantly killed when it reaches the spikes...so attack the center part of Wall Face with powered-up weapon strikes and spells.

When you beat Wall Face, you'll get the Bow's Orb, then Thanatos will realize you have the Mana Sword. He will disappear with Phanna and Dyluck, but the villagers will be free of Thanatos' control and you can talk to them. One of the people you'll meet in the room is Jema. Talk to him. He will tell you that Thanatos is after the Mana Seeds, which is needed to power the Mana Fortress, but is also sapping the energy of the people for his own ends. After this, he will tell you to head back to the Water Palace while he heads to the Underground Palace.

Now that Pandora is peaceful again and all the villagers will finally talk to you, you can go to the armor shop near the castle entrance. Get three Cobra Bracelets; you'll need them later. Also, head to the King's bedroom and talk to the King. He will allow you to enter the treasure room down the stairs, where you can get 200 GP, a Sword's Orb and a Spear's Orb.

When you head back to Luka, she will tell you that the Mana Seed has been stolen while Undine was out of power, and has been taken to Gaia's Navel...or deeper. However, the people who took it are not from the Empire.

The Herald Sword is useful against slimes and lizards. The Sprite's Spear can hit enemies with the Balloon status ailment. The Long Bow is effective against animals, birds and beasts. The Lode Axe is effective against plants and fish.

When you make it to the Underground Palace, you'll meet Jema and the Dwarf Elder. Jema will tell you that the people who took the seed are in the hole below. Go down the stairs, and open the chest near the doors for a Whip's Orb. The

You'll eventually meet three alien beings who make up the Scorpion Army. Follow them through the doors, and they will sic Kilroy on you. Kilroy will go out of control thanks to the Mana Seeds. Use Level 2 Earth Slide on it for maximum magic damage in addition to powered-up physical attacks, and watch out for its hammers and its hammer spin attack, as the former will turn you into a Moogle and the latter will just do damage. By beating Kilroy, you'll get the Mana Seed back as well as the Javelin's Orb. This will allow you to forge the Pole Dart into the Javelin, which has no special properties and is just more powerful than the Pole Dart.

It's time to bring the Mana Seed back to the Water Palace.
