We head to the Haunted Forest, but a roadblock forces to go back to our original mission.
If you go all the way north in Gaia's Navel, you'll be able to take a teleporter to the Haunted Forest. There is Cannon Travel to the east, but you won't need it yet. The old man walking around will tell you that "some kid" got swept up in the Haunted Forest, which is more likely than not Dyluck, who we met earlier.
In this area, you'll meet Chobin Hoods, squirrels with bows and arrows who will attack you from a distance. If you need to fight them, which you probably will, use the spear, as the walls with roses and thorns cannot be destroyed like the flowers can.
Neko will be in the area if you have the gold and need something all of a sudden.
The glyphs on the ground act as teleporters.
You will eventually come across a pair of skull-like columns that you won't be able to get past. Purim will mention that you will need an axe from the dwarves in order to break them, and to get the axe, you'll need to head underground as originally intended and meet with a blacksmith. Now you can go into the heart of Gaia's Navel without Purim leaving on you.
If you did go through Gaia's Navel first and left Purim behind to do it, you'd have to fight two tough werewolf enemies to get Purim back. I'll mention these enemies later.
Now to go back to the path leading to the Dwarf Village. The Blats are bats that will fly around and try to bite (and poison!) you, while the Kid Goblins can pack a punch with their axes. The Kid Goblins will also be asleep until you push them around or hit them. The Green Drops will split into two and create up to two clones, and you'll need to hit them hard to beat them
There is lava, but you won't be able to get past it unless you go around it, enter the nearby cave and hit the skull switch with the sword. If the mouth is open, you've done it. (You'll have to defeat the enemies in order to hit the switch, free the water and cool down the lava.
The Blats can also Balloon you. If you get Balloon'd, you'll space out with the balloon on your head and you'll be stunned and vulnerable. (Thankfully, a Medical Herb helps you, assuming you have Purim with you.)
There is a cave off to the side that contains a chest. If you open the chest, you'll get the Magic Rope. This lets you leave a dungeon immediately if you use it as an item. Think of it like an Exit spell from the Final Fantasy games.
You'll be at the entrance to the dwarf village before you know it. When you get there, go to the far right and hit the skull switch. That way, you can actually enter the village.
Dwarf Village
Inside the village, people will tell you that they can hear rumbling further underground that sounds like digging, and that a Sprite child has been doing magic tricks around here.
