In this entry, we get kicked out of our home, we head to the Water Palace and we find out that there is a lot more happening than we first realized and that we're the only person who can stop it.
Potos Village
After you're helped back to the surface, Elliott runs away, then you'll meet the man from the café. He will tell you that the sword you pulled out is the Mana Sword, and should only be pulled out by a knight in times of great trouble. He says that something must have happened to the Mana Sword, as you are too young to wield it. He also tells you that the sword is losing its power and must be re-energized, and that the only person who can do that is the one who pulled the sword free. To do that, you will have to visit Sage Luka, who has been protecting the lands for over 200 years, in the Water Palace. Timothy will then tell you that the Elder wants to see you.
The man from the café will then introduce himself as Jema, then tells you that he will wait for you at the Water Palace before leaving the village. From here, there's nothing else to do but to enter the Elder's house.
When you do, you'll find out that you have endangered the village by pulling the Mana Sword, and that the Elder has no choice but to banish you from Potos Village. He tells you to take what is in the treasure chest downstairs. Go downstairs, walk up to the chest and press B. You'll get 50 GP, which is the currency of the game.
You don't have to do this, but you can talk to the Elder one more time before leaving. You'll then find out about Randi's backstory: his mother brought him to the village when he was just a baby, but she soon disappeared, and the Elder took him in and raised him like he was his own. He hopes that you can find your mother someday.
Once you have everything you need, talk to the guy guarding the southeast exit and talk to him. When he asks if you have everything you need, select "Yes" with the A button. From here on out, you can't come back.
Path to Pandora
If you go east from here, you'll find the Cannon Travel Center. If you talk to the guy next to the stairs, he will tell you that Jema has paid your way to the Water Palace and that your first trip is free.
You can take the path all the way to the Water Palace by foot if you want and meet some new enemies, but that path will be covered later anyway. For now, let's use the Cannon Travel Center and enjoy the zooming in and out of the map in Mode 7. How this doesn't kill you, I'll never know.
Water Palace
You'll soon see four soldiers and a blond-haired man. The blond haired man will tell you that he and his men have come from Pandora to fight Elinee, the witch in the Haunted Forest. You can also talk to the soldiers to get some hints, such as needing a whip to go through the shortcut to Elinee's castle. Eventually, the soldiers will head west to the teleporter and disappear.
Go north to the palace door. You'll meet Jema. Move towards him and he will tell you to follow him. Keep making your way north and step on the green buttons, and you'll eventually meet Luka. Talk to Luka, and you'll find out what is going on. Luka will reveal that Randi was able to get the Mana Sword because Mana's power is growing weak, and when he took the Mana Sword, the balance of Mana in the area shifted, and monsters revived. She mentions that there are evil monsters working to steal away the power of the Mana Sword, and that defeating those monsters will restore the sword's Mana power. Luka then mentions that the power is kept in orbs, and that the sword regained some power from the Mantis Ant. She then says there must be more hidden orbs which hold Mana power for the sword, and that Randi must find someone who can forge the sword to release its stored power.
From here, talk to Luka again. Luka tells Jema that the Empire steeks to obtain the Mana Fortress, which is more of a real legend than a fairy tale. Jema tells Randi that the Empire is trying to awaken it by unlocking the seals from the world's Mana Seeds, and that some strangers have been spotted snooping around the Water Palace already. He also mentions that something is wrong in Pandora, and has a feeling the Empire could be involved. Luka tells Jema to see the King of Pandora and tell him to be cautious. As Jema leaves, he tells Randi to go to the cave called Gaia's Navel, where the dwarves live, as the dwarves are knowledgeable about weapons and know how to make good ones, and could know somebody who can re-forge and empower the sword. He mentions that Randi's ability will improve with the sword's power and skill level, then leaves.
Talk to Luka again. Regardless of what you say you are more scared of - the sword or the Mana Fortress - Luka will tell you that you must re-energize the sword to save the world from the Empire and keep the Mana Fortress from being resurrected. Keep talking to Luka, and you'll find out that you are the only one who can save the world. After agreeing to save the world, you'll be able to hold the Mana Sword up to the Mana Seed and absorb its power. By sealing the Seed with the Mana Sword, only you will be able to receive its power. Luka will then tell you that the world has eight palaces, and that you must visit them all and receive the power of all eight Mana Seeds.
Luka will also give you a Spear, allowing you to fight with a weapon other than the sword. Just like the Mana Sword, you can also find orbs to increase its power. Luka will also hint that there are other weapons much like the Mana Sword and the Spear that also require orbs to become stronger and more powerful, and that you will need them to get through the journey. Your HP will be refilled, and you'll be able to save your game. Luka will then tell you that you will have to head south of Pandora to reach Gaia's Navel.
To equip weapons, press Y, then press Up or Down until you reach the weapon ring. From here, use Left and Right to choose between the sword and the spear. When you have a weapon selected, press A, then press A again to equip it.
