HCBailly and JB play Secret of Mana - Part 9 of 41

In this entry, we get our first magic spells before heading to the Underground Palace.

Once you go further into the cave, a Tonpole will hatch out of a nearby egg. This enemy will bounce around, and after enough damage, it will turn into a Biting Lizard. When that happens, be ready to fight. The Biting Lizard will eat one of your party members and spit them back out for damage if they get too close, and it can also cast Cure Water on itself to heal damage taken. Hit it fast and hit it hard with powerful strikes, and you'll have an easier time taking it out before things get worse. When you wil, you'll get the Glove's Orb.

You'll then meet Undine in the next room. She will heal you, then give Purim her defensive and recovery magic and Sprite her offensive magic. Undine's magic will be yours to command. As for Randi, the Mana Sword will become more powerful than any magic, but Purim can cast Ice Saber on weapons to give them the ability to freeze enemies to the touch. You'll also get the Pole Dart, the last weapon of the game, which is a Javelin-type weapon.

If you talk to Luka at this point, she will tell you to use Undine's power to stop the lava in the Underground Palace, and that Crystal Orbs are made to respond or react to an Elemental's power.

Purim and Popoie will have new rings for the elementals they have gotten powers from.

Popoie's Undine spells are as follows:

Freeze: Causes a freezing ice storm that damage enemies with ice. (2 MP)

Acid Storm: Acid rain lowers enemy's defense. (3 MP)

Energy Absorb: Takes away enemy's HP and givs it to Popoie. Do not use this against the undead; you'll lose HP. (2 MP)

Purim's Undine spells are as follows:

Ice Saber: Gives weapons the ability to freeze enemies. (2 MP)

Remedy: Cures all status ailments. (1 MP)

Cure Water: Heals damage without the use of an item. (2 MP)

The number of levels that you can bring magic up to is equivalent to the amount of Mana Power you have gotten. You can check the status screen to see how many levels of Mana Power. To receive a level of Mana Power, you must unlock the seal on a Mana Seed, and there are eight of them in all.

You will get more experience in areas where your weapons are drawn. If your weapons are

If you return to Potos Village, you can go up to the guy blocking your path to the village, walk north into him until you can't anymore, then switch characters and keep on doing this, you'll eventually be able to get past him and enter Potos Village again. Of course, if you do this, you'll get stuck, so don't do this until much later in the game.

Underground Palace

Before you head here, find Watts and forge the Glove and Boomerang if you haven't already.

The Power Glove is a step up from the Spike Knuckles, and it inflicts more damage on insect-type enemies. The Chakrah is a step up from the Boomerang, and it is most effective against slimes and lizards.

By casting Freeze on the orb at the Underground Palace entrance, you will dissipate the lava blocking your path to the palace.

The Goblins are more powerful than the Kid Goblins, and they can also spawn Ma Goblins. They can also cast Cure Water. The Ma Goblins can cast Defender, which raises the defense of themselves and other enemies.
