PrinceWatercress plays Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves - Part 19 of 42

Here's a new one: we have to play an interim mission between the first part of the opening cutscene and the second. Some sort of playable prologue job, if you will. After this, the Panda King will help us, but we have to help him first.

Episode 4: A Cold Alliance

After analyzing Dr. M's fortress, Bentley has come to the conclusion that his demolition skills aren't going to be enough, and that another demolitions expert will be needed. Unfortunately, the only one who is cut out for the job is the Panda King, whom Sly isn't too fond of following the events of the first game. Sly does not want him on the team, but Bentley reveals that the Panda King has become a monk dedicated to meditation high in the mountains. Sly is not convinced, but is aware that there is no other choice but to head to China to find him.

King of Fire

Before you start the episode proper, however, there is a prologue, and you'll have to get through it to play the actual episode. The Panda King is in a shrine high on a ledge, and it will take the Cooper Gang's combined efforts to get there.

You'll start off as Murray. Use the Fists of Fury technique to get rid of the nearby guards, then jump on the trampoline near one of the pillars and use your ball form to jump from one pillar to the next. There are five pillars, and once you reach the end, get to the large column with the writing on it.

You'll then play as Penelope. You'll need to use Penelope's RC car on the ice to split the bamboo poles and create more spire jump points for Sly to use to get to the Panda King. The D-Pad or left analog stick is used to steer, X accelerates, Square goes in reverse, and R1 fires the gun. The gun does have a temperature gauge, but you have no reason to shoot multiple shots at once here. Just line yourself up and shoot, and you'll split the bamboo in half.

After Penelope's work is done, you'll take control of Sly. Use the spire jump technique to get to Murray and catch up with him. From here, you'll need to jump into Murray's hands with the spire jump technique, then press X again and press Circle when you're at the pinwheel with the fireworks at the top. When you're at the pinwheels, strike them with Square. There are two of these, and once you strike both of them, you'll play as Bentley. Go into Binocucom mode and fire darts at the fireworks on the pinwheels to set them off. Once you've lit all six, you're done as Bentley.

From here, you'll take care of The Guru. Take control of a guard with the mind control technique and get to the roof of the pagoda where the pillars are. There will be a firework. Get The Guru to the waypoint and you'll light the last firework, which will make it so that one of the pinwheels falls and acts as a makeshift elevator. Jump on, and you'll be able to take The Guru to Murray and Sly. The three of them will then meet with the Panda King along with Bentley. The Guru will bridge Sly's mind with the entrance Panda King's, and you'll be back in the boss battle with the Panda King, complete with the same Panda King's pre-battle dialogue from the first game. Now for how to fight him, which I am shameless ripping off my guide for the first game.

Move to the side while moving forwards so the fireballs don't hit you. That way, you can get closer to the Panda King without getting hit. From here, this is where the Panda King's martial arts come in.

The Panda King has three attacks, and he telegraphs them all by saying their names before performing them. Not surprisingly, he ends up being the easiest boss in the game, even easier than Sir Raleigh Flag. The attacks are as follows:

Booming Chop: The Panda King will get one hand up before chopping at you. Move to the side to avoid getting smacked.

Fiery Wheel: The Panda King will performing a spinning chop on the floor. Jump over it when it comes your way.

Palms of Thunder: The Panda King will get his arms up while saying this one. Move away from him, but not to the sides. If you move to the sides, you're still going to get hit.

When you get the Panda King's health down by a third, you'll have to break him out of the memory loop. To do that, make him sad. The Panda King will stop being fixated on the moment of his defeat long enough to talk to Sly.

With the Panda King out of his trance - and not much happier than Sly about having to form an alliance - the Panda King mentions that his daughter Jing King was abducted by a general from the northern mountains named General Tsao and forced to marry him as Tsao sent the Panda King into exile. The Cooper Gang agrees to help him get Jing King back in exchange for the Panda King joining the team.

We then get our first slideshow. Bentley will approach General Tsao in disguise to be hired as a wedding planner, while the Cooper Gang will have to steal a pair of twin keys and break into Tsao's house of business so that Bentley can hack into Tsao's security. Also, there is an unusual radio signal out in the water, and the Cooper Gang will have to see what it is.
