In this entry, we complete the first day's worth of jobs, but General Tsao gets crafty and steals the ThiefNet laptop! We'll have to get it back if we want to get this show back on the road!
Murray has the Temporal Lock this time around instead of Sly, who had it in the second game. Pressing the assigned button use a little bit of your special weapons energy to freeze the guards around you temporarily. If you're wondering why Murray has it, it's now considered one of the powers that he's learned from The Guru (even if the game never mentions this).
Tearful Reunion
You'll need to play as Murray to start this job.
When you get to the waypoint, Penelope will tell you that the mysterious signal she picked up was somewhere on the water's surface. To Murray's surprise, it's the team van, which hasn't been seen since the second game. Penelope heads out to get the van, now frozen in a block of ice, with the RC copter, as the water is freezing and Murray wouldn't last a minute in it.
The main goal of this part is to get the van (which you can keep track of with the green triangle) across the water to the red X, but there will be enemies about and you'll need to get rid of them. Even when you do that, however, you'll still have to deal with a missile being launched at you as you push the van. You'll then need to drop the tow cable on the frozen van and use the turbo boost to take it to where the green triangle is, which will be leading you to where you need to go if you're pulling the van. You'll have to let go of the van and take some very tight turns to get the missiles off your back if you see a missile, and to make matters worse, the van will start slowly moving back to its starting position when you let go of it, and you'll have to get it back.
Once you get the van on dry land, you'll be able to break the ice around the van with Murray. As this goes on, however, enemies will start showing up and you'll need to beat them up before you can continue. Once you've cleared the ice, Penelope will warn Murray that it is too dangerous to get the van back, but Murray remains stubborn and pulls the van himself. All the while, you'll be controlling Penelope's RC copter and using the tow cable to grab onto enemies. Just like last time, latch onto the enemies with the tow cable and boost back and forth to drain their health and shake them off the ground and into the air.
Eventually, a spike trap will go off in front of Murray, and Penelope's RC copter will be out of fuel. Even with Bentley telling Murray to get out of there, The Panda King is at the ready to shoot down the spikes. From here, you'll be taking control of the turret that the Panda King is manning.
Aim with the left stick or D-Pad, zoom with the right stick and press R1 to fire. You'll need to get any and all enemies away from Murray, and you'll also need to destroy any spike traps that go off in front of Murray. If you accidentally hit Murray, he will take damage, and you really don't to do any damage to him. Watch the temperature gauge on the gun, and remember that you'll have to hit enemies with multiple shots to get rid of them, as the first hit with the gun only knocks enemies back and stuns them instead of killing them outright.
This part can take some practice to do, and I made the final part with the Panda King easier than it can sometimes be, but I pulled it off. You just completed the hardest job in the game so far.
Get A Job
You'll need to play as Bentley to start this job.
The Size Destabilizer works much like it did in the last game. Press the assigned button to power up your wheelchair spin attack, which causes Bentley to glow green. When you hit an enemy with Square while glowing green, they will get smaller and easier to defeat. This attack does use special weapon energy in order to take effect.
In order to get to Jing King, we need to get some info from the inside. Bentley has a disguise that allows him to goes into the palace and get a job from General Tsao.
Once inside the palace, you'll hear some dialogue between General Tsao and Jing King. Head into the palace and move up to General Tsao. He will tell you that he is interested in hiring a photographer for his wedding, and Bentley will mention that he has the best wedding photographer on retainer. Tsao wants to see how good his work is before giving him the job.
From here, you'll play as Sly. Look for the waypoints with L3 and approach the guards with your newly-acquired Photographer Disguise equipped to take pictures. Be careful as you move around, as these guards will also want you to recite some passwords just like in Episode 1. Just put in the button combination shown and you'll be fine.
For the first picture, all you have to do is just use the Binocucom and take the picture when the target reticle is green. For the second picture, wait for the guards to stand next to each other and pose before taking the picture. For the third picture, wait for the monkey guard to move far away before taking the photo, so you can ensure that he doesn't jump around and ruin the shot.
From here, head back to the palace and take some pictures of General Tsao. From here, you can talk to Tsao and show him the pictures. Sly will then be hired on as wedding photographer.
With that, we have completed Day One. With access to General Tsao's database and with Sly hired as a wedding photographer, The Cooper Gang is ready to make their move on rescuing Jing King. Unfortunately, General Tsao has broken into the safe house and stolen the ThiefNet laptop. Sly comes up with a new plan that involves Bentley ransacking General Tsao's personal computer in case he has linked it to the laptop, and work from there while the rest of the team stands ready.
