PrinceWatercress plays Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus (GBA) - Part 23 of 25

In this entry, we finish off Battle Mode and get into Race Mode. As it turns out, there's a little bit of variety in Race Mode, too.

Map 14

Qualifying Score: 25

For this map, you'll have the falling platforms that shake and then fall when you get on them. There are seven of them in all. At the bottom is a Triceraton you do not want to come in contact with when they re-spawn. If you can remember which platforms you've been on when, you might be able to set up a pattern in which you can move to get from crystal to crystal easily. Once again, Mikey is useful here.

Map 15

Qualifying Score: 30

It's one of those pinball table-esque stages again, but at least this mode goes out on a high note. There are no enemies, there are three bounce panels on the floor and three pinball bumpers. As long as you're reasonably fast, you can get 30 crystals here and you can get a congratulations screen followed by some credits and a password for the GameCube game.

Race Mode

Now it's time for Race Mode. Here, you'll play as one of the four Turtles, all of whom have different stats. To complete each map, you'll have to place first after a three-lap side-scrolling race.

Map 1

B accelerates, A jumps, and Down lets you utilize the functions of the special tracks. Pressing Down on the flashing blue tracks will give you a short speed boost. There's also a loop-de-loop near the end.

Map 2

The red floors not only give you a speed boost, they also let you rush through the other turtles and stun them for a few seconds, leaving them unable to accelerate in that time. The other racers can use it against you, so be careful. Also, there are other tracks that you can jump to and travel on, so feel free to experiment here.

Map 3

Be ready to jump up a wall not once but twice, or else you'll hit the walls and bounce off. Other than that, there's not much new here. The second one also has a turbo boost, so you'll have to get ready to jump even more quickly than the first time.

Map 4

The yellow tracks give you a high jump if you press Down on them. Also, there are spike pits that you do not want to be on, or else the spike will sprout up and stun you for a few seconds. Always jump over the spike pits.

Map 5

The gray tracks will slow you down to a crawl if you press Down on them, so don't do it. Other than that, be ready to utilize the blue and red tracks whenever you come across them.
