PrinceWatercress plays Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus (GBA) - Part 21 of 25

I was expecting this to be the last video. I was wrong. Battle Mode is pretty fun.

Battle Mode

In Battle Mode, you're not actually battling. Instead, you're trying to get more crystals than everyone else before time is up. Since I'm playing on one-player mode, I have to collect a certain amount of crystals before time is up.

It's pretty easy. Pick a turtle. You'll automatically have their weapon. Run around the small room you're in, get the crystals before they disappear, avoid the enemies - fighting them only when you have to - and be quick!

Map 1

Qualifying Score: 15

You have a weak guard at the bottom and five platforms on the top. Avoid him and don't let him hit you; you'll lose crystals if his or any enemy's attacks connect. The blue arrow will tell you exactly where the next randomly placed crystal is, so quickly get to them. As you progress through the map, the crystals will go from small to big and will be worth more.

Hope you're used to grabbing ledges and dropping off of them. You'll need to know how to do that like a pro to beat not only the qualifying score, but also subsequent attempts where the qualifying score gets bumped up to bigger numbers every time you beat the map.

Map 2

Qualifying Score: 15

This time, you have two floors with their own guards, and you have to climb from one to the other and run like heck to get the crystals. Most of the time, you'll be running around in a circle, though you may have to double-back to make getting some of the crystals easier.

Map 3

Qualifying Score: 15

For this one, you have a guard with a gun, a platform above that you grab or climb to, and a searchlight that sweeps the upper floor. Don't let the guard shoot you, and don't let the searchlight spot you; both will cost you a few crystals you'll have to reclaim.

Map 4

Qualifying Score: 20

You now have a Triceraton at the bottom and two pinball bumpers, so you'd better be used to jumping on the bumpers. You'll need to bounce dead center on the top of the bumpers to get the crystals way up top. Crystals may show up between the bumpers. If you need to, hit the Triceraton from above. You can get a lot of crystals here if you're playing as Mikey.

Map 5

Qualifying Score: 20

You now have two levels with Triceratons and nothing else. You can only climb to the upper level, but you'll need to be careful with the Triceratons regardless. I found myself fighting them more often than not to hold on to the crystals I already had.

Map 6

Qualifying Score: 25

This one has the bounce panels all over the floor and a pinball bumper in the center. If you know what you're doing here, you can get a lot - and I mean, a lot - of crystals here without even trying, especially if the random crystal placement is on your side.

Map 7

Qualifying Score: 20

There are four corners where the crystals will show up. These are the only places they will show up here. You'll have to break the blocks - and maybe even the guard at the bottom - to get to them. The blocks also re-spawn shortly after you break them, so pay attention to what's going on in the room.
