PrinceWatercres plays Tunnel Runner - Game 1 - The Longplay

Enjoy!

Tunnel Runner is a game where you are in a series of mazes and you have to find the key and unlock the door to the next one. Up and Down on the joystick move you forward and backwards, while Left and Right

The brown cross is you, the orange triangle is the key, and the dots are the Zots. The Zots will eat you if they run into you, and you will hear music when they are approaching. When you hear that music, you need to get away. Gray ones are the dumbest, white ones are slightly smarter and the red ones are the craftiest.

You can hold Up and Down to move forward or backwards more quickly, and if you hold the fire button down, you can stop instantly at an intersection to check the map and see where you need to go next. Remember that there is a compass at the bottom of the screen showing which direction you are facing, and that the brown bar where the compass is is your timer. The more time you have, the more points you get in the exit. To get points, you'll need to explore the maze. The more of the maze you explore, the more points you get, and the further you are in the game, the more points you'll get throughout the mazes. You'll get a life - indicated by a black block on the upper-right corner - at 5,000 points. If you lose all your lives, the game is over.

When you see a flashing floor, there is a door nearby. The door with one "Up" arrow at the saide is the exit that takes you up one floor, and it is at the very end of the stage. You will need to hold The door with two "Up" arrows at the sides is an exit that takes you up two floors, but you need to find the key and the single level exit first in order to use it. The door with the two "Down" arrows takes you down a floor, and should be used only if you are trapped by Zots. The door with the "left" and "right" arrows at the sides is a teleporter, and it will take you to another part of the floor (and also fill out parts of the map when necessary).

There is also a secret door with "db" and "cb" on the sides. This is a secret door that gives you a ton of points if you find it, and are the initials of the programmer and his wife at the time.

As you go further and further into the game, there will be hardships. Sometimes the maps will have to be completed by moving through it. Other times, you won't be able to see the enemies on the map. Other times, you won't be able to find your location on the map, and you'll have to rely on both the map and what you see to determine where you are. Other times, you won't be able to see the key at all. Be careful as you move around the maze.

This is a pretty fun game. The graphics may be primitive, the sound is designed to be useful, and the gameplay is a snap once you get used to playing the game. You'll be spending quite a bit of time with this game just to get better and better and see how much further you can go.

Game 1 has predetermined maps, and all the run numbers will be the same every single time, which means you can memorize the maps.
