Station 2
When you see a fork in the road, you should usually go right. There can be power-ups on the left path, though that does not happen often.
To beat the boss in Level 2, press Select to switch to your bombs, then get in close and aim at the boss before shooting them. You'll want to get in close as soon as possible to avoid being shot and blasted into oblivion, and you'll want to make sure you have plenty of bombs coming into this battle. Hope you've collected and saved as many as possible on the way here! If you run out, you can use your Smart Shots.
Be sure to go to the left for free fuel before going to the right after beating the boss.
If you manage to get a good surplus of stars, be sure to increase your Force Shield along with shot power and speeds. The more shield power you have early on and the better you can play, the better off you're going to be when it comes to collecting stars and saving them for when you need them.
