PrinceWatercress plays StarTropics - Part 12 of 12

It's time for the final battle against Zoda! Can we save Coralcola from the alien menace?

From here, head north. You'll face Zoda and enter the last dungeon of the game.

When you see Zoda, immediately grab the gun in the northeast corner. Shoot at the head while avoiding the eyeballs when they pop out, If you see a hand, run away from it immediately. As long as you don't get hit, you're good.

Once that battle is done, you'll see Zoda turn into an alien before disappearing. Head west. Grab the vitamin as you head west and take out the enemies. If you see a ladder, you can walk on it to get to other platforms. The red aliens in the windows will snipe at you. Take out the first one, then run away from the second one.

Watch out for the miniature square tile spaces. If you jump into one while it is open, you will be taken to a room full of aliens. Destroy the crack in the northern wall to grab three potions and a wide shot gun, then grab the vitamin before heading west to the teleporter tile. You'll be back to just after the first Zoda fight, but you'll have three potions, so that's a thing.

You'll eventually fight the power generator for the spaceship. When the miniature square tile spaces close, get in front of the purple device and attack it with the gun when it is not protected. Be ready to jump to the side when the tile spaces open again, and be ready to shoot as many rounds into that device, or else the generator will repair itself. When the generator explodes, you'll be able to safely head west.

In the next area, grab the gun. There will be red enemies that drop endlessly from the north; you can kill them for hearts if you need to get back to full. When you make it to the top, you'll face Zoda in his alien form. Avoid the red monsters that Zoda spits as well as Zoda's belly button lasers as you repeatedly attack Zoda from a distance. Make sure Zoda does not go off-screen, as you will have to get him back on-screen yourself, as he will tend to stay away from you. More often than not, you'll have to jump across the tiles and be at the mercy of the game's grid-like dungeon movement as you go through this fight. If Zoda jumps into you, you'll lose all your health and you'll lose a life. At least the red enemies that Zoda produces give health pretty often. If your yo-yo gets knocked down to Shooting Star, switch to the gun.

If you die at any point - even the second Zoda battle - you have to do the entire chapter over. That's harsh.

You'll eventually destroy Zoda, and you'll be able to head north to another overworld area. The path here is very linear and leads to the green magic cube. As you head along the path, the game interrupts you to tell you that the ship is going to self-destruct. The ship eventually does just that after Mike grabs the last cube, and Mike finds an escape pod. Mike then tries to swim to land, but drowns. However, he comes to on C-Island, thanks to the dolphin we helped in Chapter 2. From here, you can head back to the nearby village of Coralcola.

Back at Coralcola, everyone will congratulate you. Baboo will be here, and if you talk to him, you'll actually drink some cola and refill your health completely (even though there is no reason to do so now). Go to the village chief's hut and you'll meet the chief and Dr. Jones. The monsters will all be gone, and everyone will congratulate you again. You'll join the three magic cubes together, and they will transform into the long-lost children of Argonia. One of them is Princess Argonia, daughter of King Hirocon of Argonia, who tells you that they were placed in time-frozen magic cubes and sent to Earth after their planet was destroyed. They have been asked to live in peace with the people of Earth, which the chief is welcome to help out with. Afterwards. the camera zooms out of the village, then C-Island, then the planet. You'll then see the credits. You've just beaten Startropics!
