PrinceWatercress plays The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Part 8 of 21

It's time to release the Master Sword from its resting place in the Lost Woods and take the fight to Agahnim!

Now that you have all three pendants, head to the Lost Woods.

The Master Sword is in the northwest corner of the woods. If you come here without the Pendants, you can't do anything. Since you do have them, you can do something. Use the Book of Mudora to read the inscription under the sword. You've got the three symbols of virtue, so get the sword. You'll be able to grab the sword and clear the fog surrounding the forest. Sahasrahla will telepathically congratulate you on your earning the right to wield the Master Sword.

When you head out of the area where the Master Sword was and move around, you'll notice that there are soldiers in the forest. You'll also hear the pastor of the Sanctuary call for your help, as soldiers have showed up there...but it might be too late...

...

Also, how could Link hear him from that far away?

When you make it back to Sanctuary, Zelda is gone and the pastor is lying on the ground. When you talk to him, he'll tell you that the soldiers have kidnapped Zelda and have taken her to the tower...again. He then tells you to stop the wizard Agahnim before he can work his magic on her, then he dies.

Now that you have the Master Sword, you can shoot beams from your sword whenever you are at full health. If you're even half a heart away from it, you won't be able to do it.

Our next stop is Hyrule Castle, but there are things that we can do before we get there.

To the west of Link's House, you can run into some rocks to reveal a hidden passage leading to four Fairies.

At the bridge east of Link's House and north of Lake Hylia, you can swim underneath the bridge to talk to a guy camping out under the bridge for the third Magic Bottle. Make good use of it; it's the last one you're going to get for a while.

Lake Hylia

In the center of Lake Hyrule is the Waterfall of Wishing. Inside the cave is the Pond of Happiness, which acts as a wishing well. Throw enough Rupees in, and a fairy will show up. You can then increase the capacity of how many arrows and bombs you can carry here. The absolute maximum carrying capacities for both bombs and arrows are 50 and 70, respectively.

As you throw Rupees into the Pond of Happiness, you can change your luck, and the better your luck is, the more often enemies will drop random stuff when you defeat them. The best luck will give you a heart for your health every ten enemies, while lower levels of luck will make it so that you get fewer item drops.

You can bomb the crack to the west of the Pond of Happiness for four Fairies.

One screen to the west of Link's House is a set of rocks similar to the ones you dashed into near the Sanctuary. Dash into them to find a cave with four Faeries inside.

Head back to the stone tablet west of the Tower of Hera and use the Book of Mudora. Now that you have the Master Sword, Link will be able to raise the sword up and get the Ether Medallion. Using the Ether Medallion will freeze all enemies onscreen, but it uses a good amount of magic.
