PrinceWatercress plays StarTropics - Part 8 of 12

We're almost at Dr. Jones' location, but we'll have to go through a maze and an underground dungeon to do it...

Chapter 6: Reunion

There will be an island blocking your path to the east. If you go south a little bit, you'll find a place where you can pass through to the other side of the island. There will be a small island with a hut nearby. Enter the hut to enter the village of Howduyaducola. One of the people in the village will tell you to look around for a Big Heart, and another person will tell you that Dr. Jones was here a while back.

Whenever you enter Sub-C, Navcom will tell you how many tiles north and east you are from Dr. Jones' signal. The smaller the numbers, the closer you are.

From here, head north and east. At the small island with the palm tree, go north and dive at the black wavy lines. On the other side, take the black wavy lines to the south and dive there. You'll find an island with a stairway leading underground. You'll find a big apple, but it's completely useless. Go back and dive at the black wavy lines to the east. You'll find another island with a staircase leading underground. You'll find the Big Heart here. Be sure to get it.

From here, head east from the island. There will be another island to the east with a hut containing a skeleton which is completely useless. Go south from that island and go through the island to the east to go elsewhere. Go south. There will be five sets of black wavy lines. Take the second from left, as all the other ones are dead ends. On the other side, go south and take the bottom set of wavy lines to go further south.

To the west is another island with stairs leading to nothing, so don't go there. Instead, go straight north from where you landed and dive down at the black wavy lines. You'll soon find out that Dr. Jones' signal is very close, so keep moving north. There will be some wavy lines in the land to the north that let you go to the other side of the landmass, and when you go through there, the signal will be even closer. Go in the amount of spaces north and east that the game tells you to go. The signal will stop, and you will see a huge crater nearby. When Navcom tells you that the signal has stopped, dive.

When you dive, there will be an underground tunnel that you can navigate with Sub-C. Go north to find an undersea cavern. You'll be in a dungeon. Just keep going north, and you'll be in an underground cave.

Follow the path. You'll enter a dungeon...a real dungeon.

The purple cobras will move back and strike from an even longer distance, as they will be able to see you from further away.

The winged anklet will turn Mike from blue to yellow, signifying that he can leap two tiles forward in the cardinal directions. This will allow you to reach the other side of the room and open the two chests for two pairs of hearts. It wears off when you enter the next room.

The purple mummies take more damage than the blue ones do.

At the tile maze, take the bottom route first. This will let you get the winged anklet. From there, jump north from the switch that uncovered the winged anklets to find the path that will take you to the door. You'll still need to find the switch, so take out all the monsters in the room, then take the path to the door again.

In the next room, you'll see red mummies. The red mummies take as much damage as the purple ones. Walk between them to the switch, then get to the island in the center and take out all the mummies. Head north to the door, but jump east at the blue tile immediately. You'll get a potion. Make your way to the northern door.

The mollusk takes four hits to kill with the Shooting Star. It's a pretty weak and slow enemy.

You'll then face a boss. Jump to the right first to trigger a switch that reveals the winged anklet. This will allow you to face the boss close up. This boss is much like the big octopus from earlier in the game: just wait for it to rush at you, then pound it with the Shooting Star. It won't take long to destroy this boss at all, and the winged anklet will allow you to get out of here.

In the empty room, go through the west wall in the southwest corner. Jump on the switch to the west to open the door. Leave, and then go into the west wall from the northwest corner. Grab the winged anklet, go west one tile, look south, then jump south. You'll turn the lights on. Jump north, then jump on the tile near you to uncover a switch. Jump to that switch. Get the two hearts, then jump south. You'll trigger a switch. Jump to that switch. You'll get baseballs that you can throw at enemies. Head north and out of this room.

The squids will bounce off the walls at 45-degree angles. Use the kick power-up to take out the two stationary squid that you cannot reach, then go west. For this room, you'll have to uncover the winged anklets with the tiles in the room, then use the anklets to get to the other side and go north, hopefully without getting hit by a lot of fireballs.

In the room comprised of nothing but tiles, you'll be fighting a bunch of mummies. If you can get them all close together and following you, they'll be easy to defeat. In the next room, just face north and keep attacking to defeat both purple snakes.

For the next room, switch to the baseballs, because it's boss time. When the Easter Island starts moving, keep throwing baseballs at its mouth as it opens up to spit snakes at you while jumping over the snakes. You should still have your potion at this point; use it if you need to. After you beat the boss, you'll be out of the dungeon and back in the cave.

Follow the path all the way to the east, then go north at the very end. You'll find a stairway leading down to the north, where you will find another Big Heart. Be sure to pick it up. From here, go back south, then go all the way back to the beginning and take the path to the north nearby. Go north, then go east when you're able to. Follow the statues to the east, then go north. You'll find a big rock that looks like melted metal with three holes and strange writing on it. Hmmmm...
