PrinceWatercress plays Tougi Ou: King Colossus - Part 5 of 22

Well, we're stuck in the gladiator's arena. Can we fight our way out...?

Now that you're stuck in the coliseum, you'll have to fight for your life. You'll meet the healer - who will refill your HP and MP between battles - and everyone else in the first room you're in, but when you go to the north, you'll face King Careem again...and boy, is he a piece of trash. He expects you to win so he can get a ton of money while you languish in here until you're dead. From here, he and a few guards leave. If you talk to the guards, you can go fight in a match. If you choose to fight in a title match, you'll face one of the ranked opponent. If not, you'll just fight a monster for a small sliver of experience.

To the west of the room leading to the arena, you'll see where you are in the rankings. Once you win one of the matches, you'll be on the top six. You'll also meet Ganku, who you'll see off and on throughout the rest of the game, and if you talk to him, you'll learn about the events that have led to the way the world is at this point, and also tells you about the practice matches as well as the real matches. The practice matches are against monsters you've already faced before, and if you're close to a level at this point, you can keep fighting in practice matches until you level up. Sadly, you won't get much in the way of experience, so you're better off going through the title matches. You'll also meet a woman in pink who will give you hints on how to take on the other competitors. You'll also find out that anyone who becomes champion can be set free.

The guy behind the counter will let you borrow items that are pretty powerful. There are four items, and you can only take one item at a time. The Golden Axe is a very powerful axe; the Death Scythe is a very powerful flail weapon with quite the range that will be very useful; the Fire Staff is a powerful staff that allows to shoot fireballs at the ground to deal damage; the Cursed Shield raises your defense up quite a bit.

When you talk to everyone in that room and go back to the room leading into the arena, you'll see more people. Paris is not only an annoying character, but one that is none too bright. Meanwhile, the other guys in the room consider you to be an annoyance and don't think highly of you.

In the practice matches, you'll fight not only slimes (which cannot be hit at all with the Death Scythe, which goes right over it), but also fireballs that slowly travel around randomly. Both are easy and don't give much experience.

The first title match is against Arigaluu, who is just a red and gold soldier enemy. If you can trap him in the corner with a flail weapon, you'll easily kill him.

After beating Arigaluu, you'll get some info by talking around. You'll find out that the queen of Distaria is the founder of the Gryuud cult, and that she is not a nice person at all. You'll also learn about #1 ranked Iria, and that a certain old man in the room to the right wants you to survive. If you talk to Ganku, he will tell you about King Goran, who borrowed the pwoer of Desire, the queen of Distaria, to seize control of Laiard. If you beat Lansath, you'll learn more. Another person will tell you that Laiard was peaceful until King Loire was overthrown by Goran. Yet another person will tell you that Iria is exceedingly powerful. If you talk to the woman in pink, she will tell you that Lansath uses a halberd.

To beat Lansath, who looks like the other guards, equip a flail, hit him from the side, and trap him in the corner like you did Arigaluu. You'll be 5th place before you know it.

By talking to people, you'll learn that Queen Desire summoned Gryuud to the world and that Iria is a female warrior. You'll also find out the old man from earlier is King Loire's personal soothsayer and that he considers you the last hope remaining for the people. Ganku will tell you that Goran imprisoned King Loire somewhere in the castle, and another person will tell you that Desire led the cult of Gryuud into battle against King Loire and defeated him so that Goran would become king. You'll also learn that the woman in pink is Iria all along. If you talk to Iria, you'll learn that Groba uses poison claws.

To beat Groba, stay away from Groba when he starts rolling around, then get close and hit him when he gets out of his ball form. When he stops moving, he is about to throw two projectiles in two different directions. If you can trap him in the corner with a flail weapon, do it; otherwise, keep your distance.

By talking to people again, you'll learn that Desire built the coliseum and that you and the other gladiators are human sacrifices to Gryuud in Desire's quest to acquire the power of darkness. You'll learn that Iria has not left the coliseum despite becoming champion for some reason. Also, Paris is still annoying, and his next opponent is Blarda, who is ranked second...which means he's probably going to die. The old soothsayer will tell you that Iria is King Loire's daughter and therefore the princess of Loire, which would matter if her father had not been overthrown. Ganku will tell you that he was once a soldier of Kazard in the south, and that Kazard is no longer the place he once knew thanks to Queen Desire, who enslaved the people there. Another person will tell you that every country that has opposed Desire has been overthrown. If you talk to Iria, she will tell you that she will show no mercy if you fight her.
