PrinceWatercress plays Lagoon - Part 6 of 12

Our adventure takes us to the Dwarf Cave, where it can be very, very easy to die.

Dwarf Desert

From here, head all the way back to the Dwarf Desert. From the entrance from Philips Castle, head north. At the "upside-down Y," keep going north. (East is a dead end, while west takes you back to Denegul.) Look for some rocks in the vast field of sand that are blocking a cave entrance, then equip the Powerful Mirror and press L while in front of the entrance. This will get rid of the rocks. Put the Powerful Mirror away and enter the Dwarf Cave.

Dwarf Cave

The music here is Super NES exclusive; the music here in the X68000 version is the same as the Gold Cave.

Be ready to save often and especially after entering a new room, because this area will be ready to decimate you.

The glowing red chasms at the beginning are instant death pits, so jump clear over them. This may be easier said than done in the second half of this beginning part, but the jumps are still doable. The square-shaped hole at the end takes you to the inside of the cave proper. There will be lava, and it will absolutely sap your health if you stand on it.

Watch out for fireballs, as they will sap your health. The rock monsters will shoot out a five-way shot, but you can jump over those fireballs like you can the ones from the rock monsters in the Dwarf Desert. Both monsters can tear you apart, and the fireballs won't work against the rock monsters, but if you can destroy a fireball after it hits a wall and before it disappears, you'll get a lot of experience out of it.

Follow the path, then go east as soon as you're able. You'll find a Magic Sword not far from the path that you'll want to equip for another 40 Strength points. You'll want to watch out when you go further to the east to the four-way crossing, as fireballs will shoot at you and sap your health as they push you into the lava. At this point, you'll want to save often.

Go south. When you see a lava gap, jump to the south to take as little damage as possible to the chest. If you didn't get the Sky Staff from the Mayor of Voloh, you'll find it in this chest; otherwise, you'll find money instead. Hop north back to the path, then go back to the four-way crossing and go north. Avoid the fireballs and enter the doorway to another area.

If you get back on the path from the Sky Staff/gold chest, jump the gap and goes east there, you'll get a shortcut back to the Dwarf Desert. Remember this for later.

Head west and avoid the fireballs as you go. At the end of the path, hop to the north and keep going. You'll get the Wind Crystal, which will allow you to cast wind spells. Combine it with the Earth Staff to get the Wind Cutter, which uses a few more MP but does slightly more damage than the fireball you currently have.

From here, keep jumping to the east until you find another chest. You will see what looks like a ramp of lava. Remember this for later. The chest near it contains the Protective Ring, the first of five rings for the Equip menu. It increases your defense by 30, but it quickly depletes your MP as it does this, so you're better off not equipping it until you're fighting a boss, since you can't use magic in boss fights, anyway.

The fireball may not be useful at all against the rock monsters, but the Wind Cutter will tear them apart. Keep that in mind as you fight them.

From the Protective Ring, follow the path to the south. You'll find an opening to the Silence Cave. Go all the way to the north and press Y at the flashing stone to pick it up. This is the Moon Stone, which you will definitely need later.

You're done in the Dwarf Cave, so save your game before heading back through the Dwarf Cave. If you're desperate, hop through the lava to the south and then keep hopping to the west from the Silence Cave to make backtracking easier. This time, go to the four-way crossing, go south, then jump the lava gap to the east and get on the shortcut to the Dwarf Desert. You're finally home free! From here, head to Denegul.

Denegul

When you return to Denegul, you'll meet Mathias. He will tell you that Princess Felicia was kidnapped by a woman named Ella and is being kept in the Dwarf Cave. You'll also find out that Ella is working for Zerah, who is trying to revive the evil spirit using the power of Darkness, and he is using Felicia to make that happen. We must now head back to the Dwarf Cave.

One of the villagers near Mathias will tell you that there is a path to the Hobbit Valley in the Dwarf Cave, but you will need the Freezing Pot to open up the road. The villager who told you about the Moon Stone will tell you that it will become the Moon Blade when forged. As for the guy who wanted the Moon Stone, talk to him with the Moon Stone equipped, and he will give you to the Freezing Pot. Head back to the Dwarf Cave and use the Freezing Pot on what looked like a ramp near the chest that contained the Protective Ring, and you'll open up the path to Hobbit Village.
