PrinceWatercress plays Sonic Chaos (Tails Run; Game Gear) - Part 1 of 6

I said that I would play this game as Tails, and now I'm doing just that. Time for a casual Let's Play!

When you start the game, you'll choose between Sonic and Tails. Tails is the easy mode, while Sonic is the normal mode with the Chaos Emeralds.

Turquoise Hill Zone

The Control Pad lets you move around, duck down and look up and down, and the buttons let you jump. Just like in every other Sonic game, the longer you go in one direction. Holding Up and repeatedly pressing 1 or 2 lets you charge Sonic up for a fast run. Holding Down and repeatedly pressing 1 or 2 will allow you to utilize the spin dash, which lets you break through certain walls. As Tails, if you hold Up and press 1 or 2, you can fly, but only for a limited time, and you'll have no warning before you suddenly drop back down mid-flight, unlike in Sonic 3.

Rings are in this game, just like all the other Sonic games. Collecting 100 will give you an extra life. Unlike in the Sonic playthrough, you cannot enter the special stages at any time, and you also start with five lives and four continues. If you run into an enemy, you will lose all your rings, and if you get hit without any rings in your possession, you'll lose a life.

The monitors give you power-ups. The sparkles give you temporary invincibility. The ring will give you ten rings. Since I forgot to notice this and mention this during the Let's Play, the monitors containing the flying shoe power-up that allowed Sonic to fly quickly through the air are gone if you play as Tails.

There are enemies here, but they're sparsely placed due to the Game Gear being small and the action being zoomed in compared to other games. As long as you're doing the usual somersault jumps you can defeat them, though you will have to hold Down while running to roll into some, like the Motobugs with the springs on top of them.

Besides the spring Motobugs, there are also springs throughout the game that you can jump on, and they can take you to higher places.

The bridges that twirl around can be crossed by running or rolling past them without stopping and/or losing a ton of speed.

The boss of the third act - which is very short and has no enemies - is a giant Motobug with a spring on the top of it. Just keep hitting the face with the spin dash until you do it five times. After that, the boss is defeated.
