After taking on the first four robot masters, Dr. Wily attacks the Robot Museum to cook up a new plan. Afterwards, we take on the other four Robot Masters.
Freeze Man
Being an ice-themed Robot Master, this will be an ice stage.
The life pickups are blue with a yellow center, while the weapons energy pickups are clear with a red center. Sometimes you'll pick up what looks like a detached headlight, and like the health and weapon pick-ups, some are big and some are small. These are Bolts, and you'll need those to buy stuff such as Energy and Weapon Tanks at Otto's Store, which you can access by pressing Select at the Robot Master select screen. Small bolts are worth one, while big bolts are worth five.
The first enemy you'll notice is the circular robot with the legs that go over the head. He's just like his counterpart from the third game. Just shoot the "head."
The polar bear robot takes a lot of abuse before going down. Use charged shots and jump over the ice crystals they create and push at you.
The shield robots are, as always, only vulnerable from behind.
The ladder that leads up before the Shield Joe leads to the H icon.
The ceiling robots shoot icicles down on the floor. If you destroy them before they can do that, the icicle will come down automatically. You can use these icicles as small platforms that can get you over the spikes.
The Shield Joes are a lot bigger compared to past games, but they take a lot less damage compared to previous games when they're not defending themselves.
The indestructible low-lying robots are little red cylinders with whirling blades at the top, and they'll still rush at you if you're on their level like n previous games.
The ceiling turrets will shoot in multiple directions.
Near the end, you can get Rush Search if you stay on the top route and can leap from one platform to another. This lets you find items in the ground that you can sell at Auto's shop later on.
The polar bear robot near the end not only guards an Energy Tank that you can use to refill your energy with, but also attacks with icicles until you kill it.
The last enemy you'll meet before Freeze Man is a pair of sleds that shoot out explosive balls as it rockets toward you. If you have your Mega Buster charged up before meeting up with one, you'll be good to go.
Interestingly, Freeze Man does not move until you do at the start of the battle.
Freeze Man has a couple of attacks. The most obvious one is that he can freeze the floor. When the ice covers the floor, you'll want to jump so that the ice doesn't keep you stuck to the floor.
Besides the running and jumping Freeze Man can do, he can also shoot Freeze Crackers at you to freeze you in place and also toss Freeze Crackers into the ceiling to create icicles that fall to the floor all across the room.
Freeze Man is weak to the Junk Shield, so if you're frozen to the floor, you'll be able to stop him with it and do the most damage. It also protects you from the icicles that drop down.
I should mention that the top of the "stairs" leading down to Freeze Man's chamber near the end of Freeze Man's stage contains the Escape Unit, which gives you the Exit ability that lets you exit a stage you've already completed. You must have Rush Search on that "step" to get it for free so you don't have to buy it in the store.
Beating Freeze Man will give you the Freeze Cracker. Not only does it freeze enemies, but the crystal you fire split apart after hitting the ground or a wall. You can also tweak the angle of the shot a little bit with Up or Down on the Control Pad.
Museum
When you beat the first four Robot Masters, you'll return home. After Dr. Light believes that Bass (from the beginning) isn't a threat, Dr. Wily attacks the Robot Museum!
The music here is a medley of songs from past Mega Man games. You'll also see Snake Man, Blizzard Man, Pharaoh Man and Heat Man under glass.
In the boss room, you'll see Dr. Wily get away with Guts Man. (You'll also notice Skull Man and Ring Man in the background.) You'll then fight a fat clown robot. Shoot this robot in the head with the Mega Buster, then hit the head with Danger Wrap. You can also use the Thunder Bolt on the head the whole time. You'll want to avoid the body as it jumps around. If you run of Danger Wrap shots, charge up the Mega Buster and shoot the head, or use the Thunder Bolt.
No sooner do you return home do four more Robot Masters strike: Spring Man, Slash Man, Turbo Man and Shade Man.
Store
Press Select on the Robot Master select screen to go to the store. You'll meet Auto, and for a certain amount of bolts, you can get certain items such as 1-Ups, Energy and Weapon Tanks, and other cool stuff such as Beat's Whistle and the Exit ability (which works just like in the X series).
Auto will mention that he's missing a bolt. You'll find it eventually.
On the GameCube version of Mega Man Anniversary Collection, you have to press Z. (The manual does not even tell you this.)
