PrinceWatercress plays StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge - Part 8 of 16

The next chapter takes us to the Old West. Our first order of business is finding a hidden mine...

Chapter 5

This time, you'll end up in the Wild West.

Make your way north. You'll eventually come across a town. Head inside.

East of the entrance is Bob's Store; unfortunately, it is closed.

Talking to the townspeople will reveal that the saloon serves ginger ale and that everyone is getting rich due to the sudden discovery of gold.

In the northwest corner is the saloon. You can talk to the bartender to completely refill your health, and you can talk to the guy at the piano to play a song. Within the lyrics to the song, you'll get a hint: find a special-looking cactus, then face it and moves two steps left and three steps right, then turn and keep walking until you hit a wall. He'll also tell you to blast a wall to get into a lost mine, too.

One of the townspeople outside will tell you to approach a cactus from the south when you walk up to it so you won't get pricked by the needles.

Behind the saloon is the graveyard. You can read the tombstones for some funny epitaphs if you want.

To advance the plot, you'll have to enter the house in the northeast corner and talk to the guy inside. The man will tell you that he remembers seeing a Tetrad, and that the mine it was in has since been buried due to a landslide. If you can find it, the Tetrad will be yours, but unfortunately, he does not remember where it was. This is where the lyrics that the guy behind the piano gave you will come into play.

There is a guy behind the store in the southeast corner, but he does not give any useful information.

Speaking of the store, go back to Bob's Store and talk to the man behind the counter. You'll get a load of dynamite, and the man will tell you that if you strike gold, he will buy it off of you.

From here, leave the town and go west. There will be a series of saves, and the gold stones will point you towards some of them. In the southwest corner, there is a wall with two rocks to the side, and if you bomb it, you'll get a Big Heart that will add one heart to your maximum health. Just walk into the wall and you'll automatically walk into it. If you find a cave, it will be revealed following the explosion. Once you use the dynamite, however, you'll have to go back to Bob's Store to get more. There are eight caves in all, and one of them gives you the big heart. Three of them give you chicken nuggets - which are worthless - and three will give you gold nuggets, while the last one leads to the mine shaft. Mike eats the chicken nuggets when he finds them for some reason, which makes as much sense as eating Castlevania wall meat in real life, but if you go back to Bob's Store with a gold nugget, you can exchange it for points.

The special cactus in question has its right arm down instead of up. Go west two spaces, then go north three spaces. From here, head west until you hit the wall. Touch the wall with the dynamite and you will open up the mine shaft.
