HCBailly plays Final Fantasy III - Part 17 of 44

We trek further into the Cave of Water in our quest to find the Water Crystal!

The Cocktrices (Cockatrices) are now lizards instead of birds. They're more like Basilisks (a mistranslation?) now. They will Petrify you nevertheless. The Agarias aren't particularly weak to anything.

You'll eventually reach the Water Crystal. Heal up before you get to the Crystal. A hooded man will kill Elia with a Cursed Arrow, but your party will be spared. The mystery man will reveal himself as the Kraken. This starts a boss fight.

You'll definitely want to keep your health high when fighting the Kraken. He's not weak to any particular element, so blast away with your most powerful stuff, and heal and revive immediately as necessary. Kraken can do a lot of damage when you least expect it.

Unfortunately, Elia dies after the battle with Kraken. You'll get the jobs of the Water Crystal, then an earthquake is created now that the seal is broken. The planet is no longer flooded.

You'll awake three days latter at an inn. A little girl will tell you that you are now in Amur, the town of Water.

If you talk around you'll find out that a rich man named Goldor has put a chain on your ship so you can't get his Crystal. His mansion is south of Amur, past a bottomless swamp. The only way to cross this swamp with the Floating Shoes, which are in the possession of Delila, who lives in the Amur sewers.

You'll also find out Goldor won't be easy to fight. He has very high magic defense.

The sewers are locked up because of the monsters. Old Jiru has the key, so you'll have to talk to him to get it.

You'll also meet four old men who think they're the legendary heroes. They come in, scream and leave.

The Karateka class is a step up from the Monk, so if you have a Monk, this is worth it.

Dragoon, Mystic Knight, Conjurer and Bard all need equipment that you don't have yet. Skip them for now. Ditto for Geomancer, who won't be even slightly useful for a good while.

The Viking is like the Knight, but uses axes and morning stars and focuses more on defense. The weapons he uses, though, are pretty inaccurate. He has the highest Vitality of all the classes, and the Thief can switch between his current class and the Viking easily, but you're better off using another job class.

Get the Chakra and BlackBelt Robe for the Karateka, as well as a Kaiser Claw at the weapons shop.
