PrinceWatercress plays Hirake! Ponkikki - Part 1 of 2

This game is based on the long-running Japanese children's show. Play as either Gakipin or Mutsuku (mistranslations of Gachapin and Mukku), then play mini-games and have fun with your friend afterwards in five different stages!

You'll be on the overworld map. Use the Control Pad to move around and walk into the houses to play the mini-games. The five mini-games are as follows:

Hiking: The screen automatically scrolls to the right. Here, you'll need to pick up ten oranges while avoiding other obstacles. The game does not punish you for not getting all ten oranges, which thankfully are placed in the same places every time. Left and Right let you move left and right, while A makes you jump. When you make it to your friend, you'll beat the mini-game. If you run into any enemies, you'll lose a life; lose all your lives and the game is over, and you'll get a password. These stages get tougher as you go through the game.

UFO Shell Game: There are eight UFOs. Your friend will jump into one, then the UFOs will be moved around. Pay attention to the UFO your friend jumped into in case it moves, then select the UFO that you think your friend is in. If you guess wrong too many times, you'll lose all the melons and you'll lose a life. The UFO movements get faster and more numerous as you go through the game.

Rock-Paper-Scissors: Hold Up for Rock, hold Left or Right for Scissors, or hold Down for Paper. Paper covers Rock, Rock blunts Scissors, Scissors cut Paper. Due to the RNG on this game, this is the hardest of the five and the most frustrating for little kids. If you can get all the strawberries before your friend does, you win. In later stages, you have to win more rounds to clear this mini-game, which can make it even more frustrating.

Shape Matching: Match the shape in your hands with the one that it matches above. The further in the game you are, the more shapes you have to match. This game does have flashing lights, so keep that in mind before playing Hirake! Ponkikki.

Maze: Go through the maze and grab all the apples, then move onto the happy face before time runs out. In later mazes, there are other things moving around that you will have to avoid.

Once you beat all five minigames in a world, you'll be able to see a brief cutscene before moving on to the next world to play the mini-games again, only this time at higher difficulty settings. You'll also get an extra life.

The end of the first world sees both characters having a picnic on a mountain. The end of the second world sees both characters on the beach. The end of the third world has both characters at the zoo.
