Now that we've crashed on Novalis after fleeing from Clank's pursuers, it's time to explore the planet and find another ship...but we're going to have to fight in order to get it.
Tobruk Crater - Novalis
The glowing light blue cube is a Gadgetron Vendor. At the Gadgetron Vendor, you can buy ammo for the Bomb Glove, provided you have the Bolts to shell out. You can also buy new guns from Vendors every so often, provided you have the Bolts to pay for them, as well.
The first new gun you'll be able to get is the Pyrocitor. It is a short-range flamethrower with plenty of punch, though you will still find better weapons in later planets. You won't have the money for it when you enter Novalis, but by the time you're done doing things here, you will.
When in water, use the left stick or D-Pad to move around. From here, you can press Square to dive and X to rise, and holding the buttons down let you descend and ascend in the water, respectively. You will have an oxygen meter on the right-hand side of the screen, and when it runs out of bubbles, Ratchet will drown and you'll be taken back in the stage. Obviously, you don't want that to happen, even though you have infinite lives, due to there not being .
If you see a platform with a screw on it, you can press Square to latch on with Ratchet's wrench. From here, you can rotate the left stick or D-Pad (the left stick is more natural), usually in a counter-clockwise-direction, to get Ratchet to run around and activate whatever is tied to that screw. You can do this to open doors, reveal bridges and make other things happen.
I enter the cave behind the start of the stage first. There are yellow robots that will try to shoot bombs at you, but they have a short range and you can easily destroy them with either the wrench or the Bomb Glove. There are also mushrooms in the caves that you can chop the heads off of with the wrench for extra bolts. There are also some bug creatures that will drop down when you get close enough before approaching and biting at you. Using single swings from the wrench will deal with multiple bug enemies at once.
5:05 - Right here, there is a crack in the wall. If you throw a bomb from the Bomb Glove at this wall, you'll open up a hidden room where you can find a Gold Bolt. There are 40 of these things in the game, and while they are one of the main collectibles, they do have a purpose that you will learn about later on.
Interestingly, when you're done in the cave, you'll more than likely have the money for the Pyrocitor. Now that you have more than one weapon, you can switch between the Bomb Glove and the Pyrocitor by holding the Triangle button and switching between them with the D-Pad or left analog stick in the Quick Select menu.
Once you get on the platform with the orange center at the start, you'll be able to fight the aforementioned enemies from the cave, look around and you'll also be able to travel in the stream. At one point in the stream, there is a current, and you won't be able to swim against it...for now.
9:22 - Keep these in mind. You'll be utilizing them later.
Eventually, you'll have to enter a building. When you approach the bridge, a random ship will blow holes in it. You'll have to stay away from the holes as you cross and take out the bomb-shooting robots.
You eventually see a ship land, but you'll have to face a few more bomb-shooting robots before the ship opens up. Inside is the chairman who provides you with an Infobot. On the Infobot is an ad for Big Al's Robo Shack in Planet Kerwan starring Captain Qwark, who we see for the first time. Clark takes this as a clue as to where to go next, and after Ratchet says they could head there if they had a ship, the mayor realizes that Ratchet and Clank are not enemies and lets you borrow a courier ship, getting you back into space. You'll also be able to head to Planet Kerwan thanks to the Infobot that you saw. By finding Infobots, you can get more coordinates to more planets, which equals more places to go to and explore.
By pressing Select, you can access the map. With the left stick or D-Pad, you can look across the map. Yellow areas are places you've been, while gray areas are areas you have yet to go to. The right stick lets you zoom in and out. You can view the missions for the planet with X, you can play the Infobot for the current planet with Circle, you can switch between maps with L1 and R1, and you can exit the map with Triangle.
The arrow on the map is your current position as well as the direction you are currently facing, while the star is the starting point as well as where your ship is. Question marks hint at something especially important.
Now that you've rescued the chairman, you'll have a bridge that leads to a shortcut back to the start. There was another cave that we could enter near where we crash-landed, and that leads to the waterworks of the planet. You'll need to jump up the platforms, especially the ones created by newly-fallen stalactites to get to the waterworks. Some of the platforms move up and down at regular intervals, so you'll need to time your jumps on these as well.
18:19 - At certain walls, you can wall jump. By moving towards the wall, jumping and then jumping again, you can do a wall jump. Time your presses of the X button carefully to jump to the top. Here, you'll find another Gold Bolt.
In the second room, you'll have to jump up stairs to get out of the water. You can hang off platforms as you do this, and holding Forward on the left stick or D-Pad while pressing X will let you vault up to the top. Holding back and pressing X will allow you to let go and drop down.
At the end of the waterworks area, you'll meet a plumber. After a buttcrack joke, the plumber will tell you that he cannot afford and escape transport, and the only thing he has that is worth a lot of Bolts is an infobot with coordinates to another planet. If you give him 500 Bolts by pressing Triangle in front of him, you'll get the Infobot and get footage of pro hoverboard racing champion Skid McMarx and his agent on their ship suddenly being attacked above Planet Aridia. As they eject from the ship, the footage ends.. At this rate, you now have more than one place to go to in your quest to look for Captain Qwark. From here, you can slide down the sewer pipe to get back to the start. You're done here...for now.
