PrinceWatercress plays The Ninja (SMS) - Part 1 of 5

Early in Japan's Edo era, in about the year 1630, there existed a province called Ohkami in the western region. Peace had continued there for many years until the feudal lord passed away. Gyokuro, an evil vassal seized power and his oppressive rule caused great hardship to the people. The Princess who opposed him was confined to the dungeon in the Ohkami castle.

Gyokuro has the Ohkami ninja under his command. Utilizing various ninjutsu techiniques, in addition to the one which transforms them into a wolf, they protect him from the people who are his enemies.

Being indignant at the unreasonable rule of Gyokuro and his ninja, Kazamaru (the player) courageously challenges them to a fight in order to rescue the Princess and restore peace.

However, at first, knives are the only weapons Kazamaru can use. Proceed to the castle and capture the ninjutsu secret rolls while mastering its technique and fighting the ninja. Only in this way will you be able to save the Princess and return the land to its former state of tranquility.

Good luck!

Stage 1

The main rule of the game is not to get hit. Getting hit once kills you. So don't get hit. If you think you're about to get hit, press Buttons 1 and 2 at the same time. You'll do a ninja vanish that allows you to disappear in a puff of smoke for a second, which lets you avoid enemies and their projectiles. You're vulnerable again as soon as you come out of it, though.

The ninjas with the gray suits and blue hoods simply follow you and throw shurikens. They're pretty easy

The rocks are ninjas in disguise, and they will chase you to the ends of the earth until you get rid of them.

The blue swordsmen will charge into the screen from the side in an attempt to slash you. You'll lose this power-up (and any other you collect) if you get hit, so try not to die in this game.

The red scroll will turn your knives into shurikens, and the music will change into a sped-up version of the title screen music when that happens. Unlike the knives that you start with, the shurikens go through the enemies, allowing you to destroy multiple enemies and raise your attack accuracy in the most cheeky way possible. The higher your accuracy, the more points you get, and with an extra life at every 50,000 points, points are good.

The blue scrolls increase your speed.

The green scroll is necessary to beat the game. The first one is held by one of the ninjas that you defeat in this stage. There are five on them in all, and when you find them all, you will get some information necessary to find the final area and beat the game.

The boss here is some guy with a brown hat who throws a bola around. Keep firing shurkiens at him with Button 2 and keep your distance so that the bola doesn't hit you. When his vest turns from yellow to red, he's nearly done.

Stage 2

The second stage is a diagonally auto-scrolling stage where boulders are seen rolling down a mountain. Avoid the boulders as well as the enemies and their attacks. This is obviously easier said than done. Watch for where the ninjas pop out of the ground, and be ready to throw a projectile at them.

After a while, ninjas will walk towards you from the top-left corner. Since you're always facing up and left while in a neutral position, you'll have to hold the direction you want to attack before pressing Button 1.

The boss is the same as Stage 1, but you'll still have to contend with the boulders. If you're quick, however, he won't be much of a problem.

Stage 3

The ninjas here will start throwing scythes, which are much larger than the shurikens they had in the first two stages.

The wolves are ninjas in disguise, and they will chase after you as soon as they appear on-screen. The shuriken will get rid of wolves in droves when you line the wolves up.

The boss is the same as the first two stages, but now he has a big shuriken that stops all your shots. Like in Stage 1, keep your distance, but keep an eye out for that big shuriken and move accordingly.
