Red Canyon has its own surprises. Hope you like auto-scrolling sections.
Level 5: Red Canyon
Level 5-1
Shortly after the beginning of the level is a room that takes you to another squid mini-boss. When you beat him, you'll get Rick out of the bag.
In the second section, there's a star block covering a white part of the wall. If you take out this star block and press Up where it stood, you'll find a hidden Pep Brew and 1-up. Just watch out for those two rotor things.
The third section has some basic platforming. If you have no ability (or if you have Rick and the Spark ability), you'll be able to get the 1-up at the beginning of this part. Take out the guy with the baseball bat at the goal with an enemy or an ability, since you can't inhale him.
Level 5-2
The first section is your basic side-scrolling fare complete with a lot of enemies, some of which come at you from the left.
New mini-boss here: a ninja. Inhale the shurikens he sends at you and send them back at him if you have no ability, avoid both the teleport stomp, the grenade he throws after he stomps the ground, and that nifty somersault kick of his. (I have to admit, I love that kick.) Beating him will give you the Cutter ability if you swallow him, as well as Kine. Take him and head onwards.
The third section is auto-scrolling. If you have Kine and the Cutter ability, you can take the lower path and get through it a lot more easily. There are two 1-ups next to the goal, but unless you're fast enough, you probably won't be able to get them.
Level 5-3
You'll see three doors at the beginning. "But Prince, which one am I supposed to go to?" That depends on which animal friend you want. The one on the left is in the water, so (logically) it would take you to Kine. The one in the center is in the sky gives you Coo. The one on the right is in the "grass" and takes you to Rick. Regardless of which animal friend you want, you'll fight a mini-boss, and the one you fight depends on which door you open. Thankfully, the guys in these doors aren't very hard.
When you get the animal buddy and make it out of the room, you'll be back where you started minus the three doors. There's no turning back at this point. You can also go further to the right. Make your way to the right to the door. Just some more standard platforming.
The second section has some more pipe eels and some strong currents. If you have Kine, you can get to the hidden door past the third set of current pipes. Go in, and if you swallow the Sparky and get his Spark ability, using it will reveal a hidden door. When you defeat all three enemies in this room, don't enter the right one. Instead, go through the hidden one on the left. Instead of a few stars, you'll get a few 1-ups.
The third section is all vertical. Thankfully, it doesn't auto-scroll...but in another level, it will. From here, it's just some jumping (and avoiding a rotor thing) upwards towards the goal.
Level 5-4
There's a star below the very beginning of the level. Just watch out for that rotor thing. Avoid the Bronto Burt onslaught as you fly around and use horizontally-cut watermelons on straightened bead necklaces as platforms. (Hey, I tried to be AVGN.)
New mini-boss here: some guy with spikes over his body. He'll move towards you, then he'll try to rocket himself into you. When he hits the wall, his spikes will come out. Inhale those and send them back into him while he's defrocked. When you beat him, you can swallow him for the Needle ability. You'll also get Rick.
The second section has the wind pushing you to the right. You'll see a star block covering another white space after the first bottomless pit. Enter the door behind this star block and you'll find two stars. Grab one and get out of there quickly, then repeat with the other star.
The third section is just a short climb to the top. Remember, if there aren't any air bubbles coming out of a pipe, there's an eel inside. Finally, somebody expects the eel.
Level 5-5
First of all, hope you have Rick. Next, swallow one of the Sparkys at the beginning of the level. You're going to need it for the Rainbow Drop here.
When you make it to the end of the section, enter the left door. There's a hidden door above the Maxim Tomato. Enter it and you'll find a bunch of stars. Then head out of that area, and then return to the door on the right at the end of the first section.
The second section is...oh boy..a vertical scrolling section. When you make it to the top, don't enter the first door you see. Instead, let the screen scroll up a little more, and you'll see another door behind a porcupine. Go inside and use the Spark ability to break those black blocks. Get rid of Rick and regain your Spark ability, because you won't be able to jump the bottomless pits here with Rick. From there, you should be able to get the fifth Rainbow Drop.
Head out and you'll be back at the top. This time, the screen won't scroll. Go back down to the first door and you'll be in the third section. Drop down from the center of the screen and use the Spark ability as you fall. The blocks are supposed to be a reference to a naked woman, apparently. You'll be able to clear a path straight to the goal.
Level 5 Boss: Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright
Whispy Woods isn't the only guy making a return appearance here. Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright are back for Round 2 in this game as well. When Mr. Shine (the sun) is in the background while you're fighting Mr. Bright, he'll be shooting sun rays at the ground, which produces stars that you can spit at Mr. Bright. If you swallow one of them, though, you'll get the Fireball ability.
Mr. Shine has the same back-up as before, as Mr. Bright will once again send stars at you from above.
Whenever Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright are in the air next to each other, they'll create a solar eclipse that acts as a full-screen attack that covers the screen except for one section. Stay in that shaded-out section and you won't take damage.
Level 5 Bonus
Mr. Bright will drop stars. Collect those while avoiding his sun beams, and watch out when Mr. Shine bounces and rolls around!
