HCBailly plays Final Fantasy IV (Super Famicom) - Part 19 of 70

"Will Cecil become a Paladin? Find out today!"

Just when you thought that you had Scarmiglion beat, he comes back after you cross the wooden bridge at the end. You'll have to fight him again.

Use the Change Command to switch rows, then use Fire 2 and Holy Arrows against him. He can poison you, and he has a gas that hits all your party members, but the poison can be healed with Antidotes as well as Tella's Esuna spell. Make sure to cast Cure 2 to keep everyone's HP high when necessary.

After this, Scarmiglion will fall off the bridge, and you can finally heal up all of your party members before moving on. When you approach the stone pillar at the end, you will be teleported into a room. Someone in here has been waiting for Cecil, and entrust him with the power to become a Paladin. Cecil is a Dark Knight no more!

However, Cecil's reflection is still that of a Dark Knight, and Cecil must beat himself as a Dark Knight as part of one final test.

To beat Dark Cecil, all you have to do is sit there and take damage, and heal yourself if necessary. If you fight him, this just takes longer and you're going to die. There, you've won.

After this battle, Cecil will finally be a Paladin at last, and Tellah will finally remember all of his spells, including Meteo (which he can't use as he will never gain MP). Now Tellah will have every spell in the game (save for Holy, Flare, Death and Quake), and will lose the Remember command. Afterwards, Palom and Porom are about to admit something, but everyone moves on before they can say what it is. Cecil also wonders why the mysterious voice kept calling him "my son."

Bio is powerful but is non-elemental (it doesn't do poison damage until later in the series), Tornado hacks an enemy's HP down to single digits at the cost of a lot of MP, and Break is an insta-kill spell that doesn't use a whole lot of MP and works best against a single target (if you multi-target with it, it's less likely to work, as it works in an "all-or-nothing" fashion).

When you get Cecil back, he will be at Level 1, and he will have brand new armor, more HP, MP, the Cure spell, and the Legendary Sword. If you have the Legend armor from Mysidia, equip it on him immediately and put the Gauntlets on him.
