HCBailly plays Final Fantasy IV (Super Famicom) - Part 21 of 70

Before taking care of business in Baron, we head to Mist for a few things.

When you talk to Yang, Yang sics the nearby soldiers on him. To beat the two BaronGuards, use Twin Magic. They can cast Minimum on you to hit you with the Mini status, and also inflict the Pig status on you with Piggy, but if you use Twin Magic, you'll be able to destroy them in seconds.

You'll then face Yang himself. Bio works well here, as does Twin Magic. When you beat Yang, he'll come to his senses and re-join your party after explaining he was knocked out by Leviathan. It seems Baron controlled him in the meantime. He also tells you that Rydia was swallowed by Leviathan, and that he does not know the fate of Edward.

Cecil and Yang them head to an empty room in the inn after the innkeeper lets the party stay for free in response to the beatdown given to the soldiers. Tellah feels bad for Edward following what happened to him regarding Leviathan. Everyone gets re-acquainted with one another, then come up with a plan to get in the castle and save Cid. Yang suddenly realizes that he was given the key to Baron after he was made leader of the guards, and with this, the castle doors can be unlocked.

At this point, Yang will be around the same level as the rest of your party if you got Cecil stronger after he became a Paladin, so grinding levels should be no problem.

You won't be able to get in through the front door, as there are guards at the front gate. Instead, you'll have to enter the armor and weapon shop with the Baron Key. When you try to open the door with the A button, it will be locked, and an item menu will pop up. Select the Baron Key, and you're good to go.

At the armor shop, get the Bandanna, the Kenpo rope and the Silver Ring for Yang. Equip the Ice Claw and Thunder Claw on him as well. The Bandanna increases Strength by five and the Kenpo robe increases Strength by three.

Near the table, there is a hidden passage through the southeast corner of the building that takes you to the two closed treasure chests, which contain 2000 G and a Zeus' Wrath.

Mist

Before entering the castle, you can go back to Mist at this point in the game just like you did at the beginning of the game. Things here are getting slowly back to normal.

In the small house to the north, you can enter the fireplace to take a secret passage leading to a Gold Hairband, Cloth Robe and a Ruby Ring. The Cloth Robe is useless, but the Ruby Ring will be useful for later and the Gold Hairband increases Wisdom by 10. The only drawback is that the Gold Hairband can only be equipped by females. To the right of all that is another secret passage leading to an Apparition Rod, which increases Wisdom by five and can be equipped by either Palom, Porom or Tellah.

There is a Bomb Fragment in the grass near the northern pond.

One of the villagers will tell you that there is a phantom beast underneath Baron that has been known to kill anyone in one strike. You'll also learn that the summoners of Mist are powerful enough to summon beings from the Phantom World, a plane that supposedly exists deep under the surface of the earth.

At the weapon shop, you can get the Dancing Knife, which can deal a lot of damage when used as an item in battle.. Get two; one for Palom and one for Cecil. You can find two more Bomb Fragments in the grass on the other side of a secret passage in the trees to the east of the weapon shop.
