HCBailly plays Final Fantasy IV (Super Famicom) - Part 12 of 70

Our journey through Mt. Hood sees us fighting Bombs as well as taking in yet another person ready to fight for the cause.

The Skeletons aren't hard to deal with. Cecil, Rosa and Rydia can beat them with physical attacks, Aim (with Holy Arrows) and Fire respectively, but Edward may need some help.

The Cockatrices can turn you to Stone. Do not Confuse them; they will still petrify you with their Beak attack. Also, it is possible to get the Cockatrice summon here - which is a very good summon as it works like Stone or Break - but you're more likely to get it later in the game.

Rydia's Toad spell will turn enemies into Toads.

The Spirits are susceptible to Rosa's Holy Arrows. Don't Confuse them with Edward's Harp; they will cast Fire on themselves and start healing themselves.

"Dejon" is the Warp spell. It will allow you to teleport out of a dungeon area, albeit through multiple uses as it takes you out of the current section.

As you make your way up Mt. Hood, you will meet a monk fight off several enemies at once with ease. This is Yang, and he can definitely hold his own in battle. He will be part of your party when Cecil and company help him out with the Mother Bomb.

To beat the Mother Bomb, use physical attacks with it. Do not use Arrows or magic against it, and have Rosa and Rydia heal when necessary.

Yang's Build Up lets him store power to make his next attack more powerful at the expense of his defense for one turn, the Kick attack hits all enemies, and Endure increases Yang's defense for a turn.

After doing enough damage to the Mother Bomb, the Mother Bomb will turn in a orange gas spirit. When that happens, the Mother Bomb is about to explode. When that happens, have everyone defend. Use Rosa and Rydia's Cure Magic and Edward's Medicine command to get everyone healed up immediately afterwards.

Mother Bomb will then change into three Bombs and three Pain Bombs. (Strangely enough, the Bombs and the Pain Bombs do not drop anything; not even the Bomb summon.) Use Dark Wave and Chocobo to get rid of as many of them as possible. Some of them will self-destruct, but if your health is high enough, it shouldn't be too much of a problem; worst case scenario is that at least one party member will be taken out of commission.

After the battle with the Mother Bomb, Yang will introduces himself as the captain of the monks of Fabul and thank you. He will tell you that he and his men were training when monster struck, leaving Yang as the only survivor of his group. Cecil and company tell Yang they are heading to Fabul as well as what has been going on, then it will become clear that the castle of Fabul's defenses will be less than ready for what is to come. Cecil offers his help, and Yang is reluctant. After everyone mentions to Yang why they are fighting Baron's forces, however, Yang asks for their help and becomes part of the party.

Keep Yang in the front row; even though his defense is low, his attack isn't that bad. Give Rosa the Leather, and give the Plumed Hat and the Iron Bangle you got from Kaipo to Yang to increase his defense.

After this, follow the path and you will soon be out of Mt. Hood. Fabul is to the East...
