HCBailly plays Soul Blazer - Part 4 of 33

In this episode, we start wrapping stuff up in the Grass Valley Highlands.

Underground Castle

Now that the path to the south at the beginning of the second area is open, you can go there. There will be a monster lair to the right, and if you defeat all the enemies there, you will release the spirit of yet another old man. If you go left, you'll find Leo's brush, which was used to paint the picture "The World of Evil." Now you can enter a painting in the Grass Valley Highlands.

Grass Valley Highlands

When you head back to the Grass Valley Highlands at this point, there will be a wall around the village.

The old man you just released will tell you that ever since he lost his wife to an illness, he has noticed a goat hanging around his house ever since, and has kept the goat as a pet. Also, his house will be right next to the teleporter to the shrine.

Talk to Lisa after getting the paintbrush. She'll tell you that she found a note, and whoever wrote it said they wouldn't be seeing her for a while and to see the village chief if she has any problems. It also tells her to take care of her friends, such as Turbo the dog (the start of a running gag of sorts that is also seen in Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma) Lue the dolphin, Nome the snail and Marie the doll.

These animals were once her fathers pets, but she doesn't understand what her father is trying to say. She asks you to help find her father.

It's time to enter the painting. Equip the paintbrush, then head to the painting of the village chief and interact with it. You'll be dragged into the painting.

Leo's Paintings

The two monster lairs at the start contain birds that will come straight for you. Face a direction and keep swinging. They always stop before they attack you. You'll be able to continue on and release another tulip.

There are conveyor belts in this area, as well.

The green torches will only be able to hit you on a straight line. Hit them at an angle.

The yellow guys in the armor throw spears, but they can only throw in four directions. Hit them from an angle, too.

You'll release a lonely goat at the end of the first area, as well as another ivy ladder, the goat near the lonely old man, another tulip, and two boys.

Some of the blocks will pop out and try to attack you, but you can get rid of multiple blocks at any given time.

The spinning thing with the blue eye will always follow a wall. You'll need another sword to kill it, so you'll have to come back here later to destroy them. At least you'll be able to take care of most of the monsters and take care of everything you need to at this point.

5:46 - Here's the best way to take care of these enemies. Just stand at the corner here, face north and whack away.

The teleporter near the end will take you to the right-hand panel in the Grass Valley Shrine. From here, you can go to the town and heal up at the shrine, then head back through that teleporter and return to the end of the Leo's Paintings dungeon.

Believe it or not, if you talk to the goat near the lonely old man, you'll find out that the goat is his wife reincarnated. (This theme is touched upon again in Terranigma, but that game goes beyond barely mentioning and makes it more of a central theme.)

The two boys will tell you about a secret passage, but won't allow you access...

The tulip you release in Leo's Paintings will tell you to check under all the tulips, as one of the boys has hidden something under one of them.
