In this episode, we go further into the Underground Castle and free the souls of a few more people.
Underground Castle
Sometimes, you'll find gems inside treasure chests, so be sure to open chests whenever you approach them.
You'll release a tulip from one of the monster lairs. This tulip will tell you about how there was a water mill in the village before it was destroyed, and how there was also a man in the mill who ran the elevator in the Underground Castle.
1:16 - Um, okay. The enemies at the beginning of the game are pretty dumb, especially these brown creatures who can move backwards and throw slow-moving projectiles forward.
By releasing the bridge guard, you'll also create a bridge in the Grass Valley Highlands.
The Dream Rod enables you to look into people's dreams when used.
If you hold the R button, you can hold your sword out and draw gems towards you like a magnet. (This concept would be used by Quintet again with Will's telekinesis in Illusion of Gaia. Sadly, it doesn't protect you like it does in that game.) You can also stay facing in a certain direction while moving around, which might prove useful. If any enemies run into your sword as you hold down R, the sword will damage them, albeit at 1 HP per hit.
Releasing the ivy gives you a plant-based ladder that you'll be able to climb when you head back to the Grass Valley Highlands.
You'll eventually release the water mill owner, who will complain about the wheel being hard to turn, just as you reach the elevator powered by said mill. If you get on the elevator, it will tell you that it was invented by Dr. Leo and that it will not be able to move unless the mill is turning. You'll have to go back to the Grass Valley Highlands and see what's going, but thankfully, if you've cleared all the monster lairs up until this point, you'll be able to take a shortcut back to the beginning. Just keep moving on that conveyor belt that pushes you back.
Grass Valley Highlands
If you ever need to completely refill your health, just go back to the blue teleportation tile that took you here from the shrine. You'll return to the shrine and your health will be full again.
If you talk to the old woman whose soul you released very early on in the Underground Castle, she'll tell you that her husband used to be the village chief, and that he suddenly disappeared along with the other villagers. She asks if you would like to be one of her children. Say "yes," and she will call you Blazer from now on. She also lets you use the second floor of her house as your own room. There's nothing here to interact with except for a rocking chair moving back and forth. Interacting with it will tell you that this used to be the village chief's room.
The tool shop owner will give you a Medical Herb if you ever use on during the course of the game.
The bridge guard will let you pass when you simply talk to him.
Talking to the mill wheel owner will tell you that rotating the wheel in the mill will allow you to move the elevator in the Underground Castle, but he is too weak to turn it. He steps aside and allows you to turn it, so go ahead and interact with it to turn it and trasmit power to the Underground Castle. The mill wheel owner will then realize he turned the wheel the wrong way.
The vine of ivy leads down to a cave with Iron Armor, 50 gems and another blue gem. Interact with the blue gem to gain some much-needed experience.
Back to the Underground Castle
You've done all you needed to do, so head back to the Underground Castle. Take the elevator, clear out that last monster soul and release the soul of another old man. He will tell you how to do the crab-walk, which you can do by holding L or R before moving.
You'll eventually see more of the castle. You'll release a goat, a woman named Lisa and another tulip.
