Despite being the centerpiece of this level, you can easily avoid the caterpillars. Just get to the top, grab everything and leave.
Killer Pillers
Believe it or not, you don't want to fight these caterpillars! Despite their large size, they do fly in a pattern. This makes it easier to just avoid them, take the platforms to the key, go up to the door, get the keycard and explore the rest of the level to rescue the hostage and get out. You can destroy the caterpillars, but it is not recommended.
