PrinceWatercress plays Super Mario Bros. 2 - Part 2 of 7

We head to the desert and meet some new enemies in World 2!

World 2-1

Unlike the other stages in this game, you'll only find one mushroom to increase your health with here. It's still an easy stage, though. The sole mushroom is at the top of the first stack of blocks, where you will find a potion.

The red snakes are Cobrats. They can come out of pots, but they can also rise out of the ground. These snakes will move back and forth and spit the occasional black ball at you. They can be a bit slippery and hard to jump onto, grab and throw as a result.

You can go into the pots, but other than getting a smile that makes the inside of the pots look like the Kool-Aid Man, there's nothing in them.

The floors that move downward are quicksand. Some of the quicksand floors will suck you down faster than others, and if you don't jump out of it, you'll eventually be sucked all the way down and forced to lose a life. Thankfully, there are platforms in the form of bones and cacti that you can stand on to get away from it.

The red plants that spit out fireballs are called Panzers. Throw enemies to get rid of them whenever possible, and stay away from the fireballs, which can also be shot to the side in addition to straight up.

You'll soon have to dig through the sand to get to the exit. To do that, just press B while standing on the sand platforms and you'll remove the dirt below you and make a small hole. Keep digging to get to the bottom, but watch out for enemies that are moving around.

After that, you'll have to face Birdo to get to the next stage.

World 2-2

In this stage, you'll be dealing with more Cobrats and more quicksand, along with the occasional Beezo. There is a room you can enter early on, and if you blow up the wall to the left and use the potion, you can get a mushroom there.

There is also a potion in the sand before the tall pot you see before reaching the door. You can lay it down where you find it for the other mushroom.

The cactus worm moving around is the Pokey. You can throw things at it to cut it down to size, but you can also pick up its head and throw it back at it. Hitting two segments at once is as hilarious as it is brutal.

You'll then have to do some more digging when you go down the vine. When you have a choice between left and right, go right.

This time, Birdo will be red. Sometimes he will spit eggs, but other times, he will spit fireballs. The Red Birdo will also attack more often. Take a mushroom block up to Birdo with you for just in case.

World 2-3

If you can get up to the door shortly after the start of the stage, you can get a mushroom and a lot of coins. You may have to use a Pokey to get up there. There will be another potion near this door, and if you take it all the way to the left, you can get the other mushroom.

Once you enter the pyramid, you'll have to do some more digging after you drop all the way down. The door at the bottom contains the key, and you'll have to grab it and quickly make your way up while avoiding the Phanto. If you have to throw the key to get the Phanto away from you temporarily, do it. After you unlock the door, you'll have a chance to get a few more Cherries for invincibility, then you'll face Triclyde.

To beat Triclyde, use three of the mushroom blocks nearby to form a wall to block Triclyde's fireballs, then use the rest of the blocks as weapons by throwing them at Triclyde. After three hits, Triclyde should go down.
