This is where the difficulty in the first episode kicks up a little bit.
South Side
At this point in the game, the difficult starts to pick up. The red alien guys from the high rise and the furry guys from the park are back, as are the spring-loaded bombs on legs.
The slimes that crawl across the ground can only be destroyed with either grenades or land mines, but if you have plasma bolts, those will waste them, too. More often than not, however, you'll have to be patient with them if you want to go where you want to go.
Be ready to look high and low for the things you need.
The sign with the five colored bars on them are for a switch combination somewhere else in the level. Thankfully, these colors are the same for every level they appear in every time. If you have to, write down the first four colors on a piece of paper. If you get it wrong, you get nothing, and also, you might die. If you get it right, you'll get a ton of power-ups.
Speaking of the sign, leap into the wall to the right of it for hidden land mines.
To get past the spike pit, push the stone wall into the spike pit. Thankfully, jumping over the pit from the stone is a snap. (If you need to go back, just walk off the edge.) To get rid of the blocks blocking the ladder afterwards, jump into them from below, then get away.
