Four stages in, and the Dark Water shows up as an enemy proper.

The statue containing the extra life can be approached from behind and punched to uncover the extra life. Watch out for the boulder afterwards.
When you drop down to the start of the second section, you'll see the Dark Water - a mystical substance that looks like black water - and if you approach it, it will shoot out from the hole and hit anybody - friend or foe - nearby.
After a while, you will have to dodge some more rocks before you reach the end of the stage.
The boss here is the Lug Brothers: two big men who will grab you and throw you around if you get too close. Like Urie, never approach them from a straight line, and see if you can throw one into the other. By beating them, you'll get the third treasure.
