Kikoskia plays Daikatana - Part 1 of 10

Unlike the PC and N64 versions, this version is actually good. Shocking.

In the year 2455, a man named Hiro Miyamoto is training a few students in his dojo. All of a sudden, a man shows up wanting to speak with Hiro. This man despises Kage Mishima as well as his family, and upon mentioning this, Hiro allows him inside. After the students leave, the man introduces himself as Toshiro Ebihara, and he tells Hiro about how there was a huge battle centuries ago after a long discord between the Mishimas and the Ebiharas. One of the Mishima's ancestors forced one of Hiro's ancestors, Usagi, to forge the Daikatana in order to get an advantage. It took a long time, but the sword was eventually finished to the point that Usagi was happy with its powers. Suddenly, Inshiro demanded that Usagi hand the sword over to the Ebiharas, which Usagi did. In order to keep the Mishimas from getting it, the Daikatana was sealed under Mt. Fuji after the Mishimas were beaten by the combined effort of Inshiro and Usagi. However, the world in the year 2455 is under the complete control of the Mishimas solely because Kage Mishima somehow managed to find the sword and use its power to travel through time and change history.

Suddenly, the students come back to tell Hiro that the dojo is under attack. It is revealed that Mishima's ninjas are the force behind this, and that Hiro will have to fend them off. From here, you have control of Hiro.

Along with using the Control Pad to move around, you can use the B button to attack and the A button to jump. Select lets you go into your inventory and select whatever weapon you need, while Start lets you save the game at any time.

By talking to the students, you'll find out that Mishima controls all rights to a vaccine to a plague that has gripped the entire world, and that nobody can resist Mishima as he basically controls everything.

From here, head west. Use the B button to push blocks, such as the brown block that blocks the path. If you want to push something for multiple spaces, you'll have to keep pressing B every time you approach it. When you get to the other side, Toshiro will tell you about Kage Mishima and how he found the Daikatana, and that Kage Mishima was prepared for him after he got it.

The item in the upper-left is the Ion Blaster, which is your first non-sword weapon. Keep the sword equipped, however; you can easily beat the first few enemies here with the sword.

In the next room, use the A button to jump over pits. Toshiro will tell you about the cure for the virus that is causing the plague that has spread throughout the world. Also in this room, you'll find yellow armor, which gives you fifty armor points.

The HUD at the bottom is simple enough. You have your current health, the current amount of armor points that you have, the current character you are playing as and the currently equipped weapon as well as how much ammunition it has.

To push the switch in the next room, just step on it. Toshiro will tell you about how someone named Tatsuro finished the vaccine and potential cure for the virus only for Mishima to use the Daikatana, steal it and change history. Now we must change history back to what it should really be.

In the next room, you'll fight two ninjas. Keep swinging the sword at the ninjas to kill them. Toshiro will be killed when one of the ninjas sacrifices themselves, and Toshiro asks Hiro to save his daughter Mikiko, who has crept into Mishima's fortress in Tokyo but has not returned. Toshiro hands Hiro a hologram of Mikiko, then he dies.

In the moat to the south, beat the crocodiles up with the sword. As you hit enemies with the sword, they will either be knocked straight backwards or backwards at an angle, At the end of the moat is the entrance to Mishima's fortress. When you approach, however, a laser will destroy the bridge and send Hiro falling into the sewers. Here, you'll find a cartridge for the Ion Blaster, which will give you more ammunition for it. Save the Ion Blaster for later.

To the north of where you start is a locked door. When you approach the door, a spirit shows up and shocks the control panel, forcing the door open. In the next room, there are bats flying in the sewer, but they start and stop with their movements and are easier to hit than you would think because of it.

When you make it out of the sewers, you'll be pressing two switches in an attempt to create a bridge. From the top, press the first and third ones to create a bridge to go across the water. Deeat the two ninjas, then grab the Ion Blaster cartridge. Open the big orange doors to take the elevator up, then hit the switch to the south to open the path to what looks like an operating room. Smack the robot repeatedly with the sword as it approaches you, then hit the switch in the corner to open up the jail cells in the room you just went through. The guard in the room you just unlocked will tell you to push four buttons in the correct order to open the door. The first two buttons are three and one, but he doesn't know the order after that.

The switch to the east of the elevator opens up another door to the east. Take out the ninja with the sword, but use the Ion Blaster to take care of the robot as it will try to hit you from a distance with lasers. In the room to the east, you'll have to fight another robot to open up the path to the south. Be careful in the next room, as the guard there will try to shoot at you.

If you lose all your armor points and start taking damage, use the yellow pill that was in the elevator room. This yellow Capsule will restore 50 HP and can only be used once, so save Capsules for when you really need them.

In the switch room, the combination is 3124. The number of dots on the buttons dictate the number.

In the next room, grab the Ion Blaster cartridge. North of here is a man being held prisoner who pledges to help you if you can free him with the Access Card. Walk up to the panel to open it, then move around the two orbs that are wildly flying around to press B at the pink door to open it and get the Access Card.

Head back to the pink console and use the Access Card on it with the B button. You'll free the man, who introduces himself as Superfly Johnson. Hiro tells Superfly about the mission to rescue Mikiko, and Superfly tells Hiro he was the security chief for the fortress until he questioned Kage Mishima's torture methods and threatened to quit his job and ended up being tortured himself. Superfly then looks up Mikiko's name in the database, but cannot find her in the prisoner list, meaning she must be a top secret prisoner. Hiro shows the hologram of Mikiko to Superfly, and Superfly finds out she is being held in Level 4 and treated like a very important person. He then opens up a nearby vent, allowing Hiro a shortcut to Mikiko.

From this point, you'll be playing as Superfly Johnson, who plays exactly like Hiro. If you need health, grab the yellow Capsule to the north before going into the vet. The conveyor belts will make it harder to move around as you take out the bats and soldiers, but they are not insurmountable. Be sure to take the far-rigth path at the end so you don't end up in lava.

From here, you'll need to use the switch to get the metal platform to move back and forth over the pit, then head north. Further north is the SideWinder, as well as a fan that will cut you to ribbons if move into it. To the east, you'll contend with more conveyor belts, then you'll have to hit the button and jump into the claw on the ceiling so it can move you to the other side. You'll then have to face another robot before getting in an elevator. You are now at Level 4.

If you need the Capsule, grab it, then move south. Take out the robots and get the Body Temp Regulator in the nearby locker. To the south is a teleporter, but you will need an access code to get it to work. Head east from the locker and fight off the robots with the Ion Blaster. Hit the switch at the end to open the door nearby and find Mikiko. Hit the switch in the room
