newfiebangaa plays Tom & Jerry (and Tuffy) - Part 1 of 3

The ever-popular rivalry between Tom and Jerry has made its way to video game land on the NES!

Uh-oh... Tom is at it again! That frantic feline will never give up. Now he's mouse-napped Jerry's nephew Tuffy to lure our hero up into the attic...

World 1, Stage 1

The A button lets you jump, while B lets you throw your weapon. In this case, it's blue marbles (or, to make an AVGN joke, blue balls). You'll have to use them to destroy enemies such as wind-up toy soldiers, spiders and chattering teeth, and unfortunately, the weapon is pretty useless with enemies that are right in front of you because Jerry throws at a downward arc, so you'll need some distance in order to use them. You will find other items along the way, however.

You start out with three lives as well as three hearts for your health. If you lose all three hearts, you lose a life.

The thumbtacks damage Jerry if you jump on them, so don't do that.

You can walk along the bottom of boxes. As a matter of fact, you can walk on a lot of things in this game, so explore, explore, explore!

The spider webs slow you down if Jerry is ever in them.

The brown piping act as a ladder. Hold Up to climb on, and use the Control Pad to move across them. You can jump off them to, and if you're still holding up while in coming in contact with more brown piping, you'll be able to grab a hold of it.

The small cheese pieces will give you bonus points at the end of each stage for each one you find.

The smoke coming out of the pipes will damage you, as will the water droplets.

The flies seem to fly around erratically, but if you pay attention, they do have a pattern.

The cheese wedges will restore one unit of health.

Jerry does not exactly stop on a dime, though if you throw a marble, he does.

The candy gives you another weapon: the bubble gum, which lets you fly upwards. The hammer will give you a hammer, which you can also use as a weapon. Weapons other than the marbles have limited amounts of uses (signified by a two digit number where the high score usually is), so use them only when you need to. You can switch between them with Select.

When you find the fuse box, you'll have made it to the end. Get on top of it and go to the right.

World 1, Stage 2

The snails cannot be defeated; only stunned. The crabs, however, can be taken out. There are some, however, that only stand in place and can be hit infinitely, and cannot be destroyed. That crab - along with the snails - can be hit an unlimited amount of times for infinite points, and you can get an extra life at 50,000 points. You can only have up to nine lives.

You can climb the ladder to go up and down when you need to.

The big water droplets don't hurt Jerry, but they will push him around.

The ink bottle makes you temporarily invincible.

World 1, Stage 3

Get on the two boats, and jump up and throw marbles at Tom's face. Watch out for the marbles that Tom throws into the water if you get in close, and watch out for the seeds that Tom spits at you if you're in the air. He seems to spit the seeds every other short-range marble. Of course, you also don't want to fall into the water.

World 2, Stage 1

There's an awful lot of bugs around here. Aside from the flies, there are also beetles that quickly move back and forth.

You can climb on the iron cord.

In case you die, you won't go very far from where you died.

Speaking of dying, don't fall down too far. Fall damage exists in this game, and if you take too big a tumble, you'll lose one of your hearts.

Be careful on the oven; there are four spots where the popcorn will spawn and pop out of.

The exit is on the windowsill.

World 2, Stage 2

As you make your way up to the top of this level, you'll have to watch out not only for army ants, but also for falling acorns and leaves.

The red worms will allow you to bounce to areas that your jump won't be able to get to.

World 2, Stage 3

Use the platforms to throw a marble at the beehive, then attack the bee to get it to sting Tom in the head. For best results, do it one bee at a time, as you can spawn multiple bees and they can give you problems if you fight them all at once.

World 3, Stage 1

The leaves don't hurt Jerry, but they will push him back a little bit. You can destroy them with your marbles, too.

The squirrels throw nuts, and take multiple hits to kill. Their acorns will bounce high when initially thrown, then bounce low a few times before bouncing high again.

In the middle of the far-right wall, you can find a hidden area where you can collect two cheese wedges and several small pieces of cheese for big bonus points.

World 3, Stage 2

There are plenty of water droplets that you will have to watch out for.

The nests act as trampolines that allow you to jump higher.

As you get further down, you will see embers. Walk under them after they rise up.

There are also small pillars of fire that will lower down on their own. Use that as an opportunity to jump over them.

The cup is a cup of water that you can use against the fire.

You can run across the gaps where the embers spawn. Use low jumps to get through the final stretch of the stage.

World 3, Stage 3

Watch the ground so that the fire that spawns on the ground doesn't hit you, and keep throwing marbles into Tom's face.
