LancerD1984 plays X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse - Part 2 of 6

These stages have some of the best music in the game. Can you believe this is only part of the first level?

All playable character info and special moves courtesy of World of Nintendo.

Psylocke Stage

NAME: PSYLOCKE
REAL NAME: Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock
HEIGHT: 5' 11'
WEIGHT: 155 lbs.
MUTANT POWERS: Possesses the power of telepathy, useful for a "psychic blade"

ATTACKS:

ELBOW JAB - Y
FLIP KICK - Up+Y
SPIN KICK - Down+Y
PSYCHIC KNIFE - Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Y
FLYING KNEE - Forward, Down, Down-Forward, Y
QUICK SLIDE - Forward, Forward, Y
NECK CRACKER - (Landing on Enemy's head) Down+Y

Anyway, Psylocke is heading towards the main base to distract the Genoshan Magistrates when the jetbike she's hijacked gets shot down by a Sentinel.

The first X Plate is above the steel door that the Genoshan Magistrates come out of shortly after the beginning. You'll have to leap off of one of their heads with the Neck Cracker in order to get it, as that's the only way you can reach it. It looks just like the regular jump kick, except it makes no sound when you execute it and it launches Psylocke off of an enemy's head at an angle when it hits. It's like wall jumping, except your bouncing off of people. You have to hold Down and press Y while in mid-air to pull it off.

The second one is shortly after the two men with the guns that come afterward. You'll have to jump off the very edge to get this one.

The third X Plate is at the end of the collapsing path that you have to outrun after the mini-boss. Grab it as quickly as possible so you don't risk an accidental death here.

The mini-boss is a red robot that floats around and has a mace on one hand. You'll see variants of this robot in other first-level missions. Use the Neck Cracker to get instant damage and bounce off of it before the mace hits you. The mace has only a limited range and can only move up to the center of the screen. From there, the ground starts to collapse behind you, and you'll have to make it to the end. Avoid all the enemies and jump clean over them, because you won't have time to fight any of them. Two steel beams that break under your weight later, you'll be near the end.

The Psychic Knife (a dashing punch that does multiple hit), the crouching spin kick and the dashing slide kick make quick work of the sword guys.

The boss here is the Sentinel that shot you down. Avoid the trails of fire left by the grenades as well as its eye lasers, and keep smacking it in the head with the Neck Cracker. The Sentinel also has a lunge attack as well as a right jab that will hit you if you're right next to it. If you can get a Psychic Knife in between attacks (which is possible), you can cut the time you spend with boss down by a few seconds.

Cyclops Stage

NAME: CYCLOPS
REAL NAME: Scott Summers
HEIGHT: 6' 3''
WEIGHT: 195 lbs.
MUTANT POWERS: Possesses the ability to discharge optic blasts of concussive force from his eyes.

ATTACKS:

PUNCH - Y
CRESCENT KICK - Up+Y
SLIDE KICK - Forward, Forward, Y
STANDING OPTIC BLAST - Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Y
JUMPING OPTIC BLAST - (In Air) Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Y
CROUCHING OPTIC BLAST - Forward, Down-Forward, Down, Y

Optic blast! Cyclops wastes no time in taking out what little of a welcome wagon the train depot gives him.

The platform past the boulders will help you get the first X Plate. You'll have to walk to the very edge and leap to the right from there. My only question...why is there so much health you don't need inside the boulders near the beginning? You can make it there without getting hit. Kirby's Dream Land for Game Boy did the same thing with the two Pep Brews inside the room, but that was because the Kirby formula we know and love was a new thing at the time.

You'll then take on jetbikes that zoom in from the background. You can punch and kick at them from the platform, but you'll be dealing with two at a time, and that can leave you open to attack from another jetbike. Your optic blast works best here. Watch what altitude the jetbikes come in from, as they'll stay at that altitude when they finally show up in the foreground.

You'll then take down some more enemies and then take on a guy on a jetpike above a wooden bridge. The sword enemies (as well as a lot of normal enemies) can be easily taken out with optic blasts. When you take the guy on the bike out at the bridge, the bridge falls apart. You want to be at the left edge of the screen as you fall, so you can get the second X plate.

As you tread water, you'll see guys in suits with swords. If you duck and kick at them, they won't be able to harm you at all.

LancerD1984 misses the third X Plate, so here's how you get it. When you reach the train, don't approach the center right away. Instead, go up to the left edge of the higher portion of the train. From there, you can jump off the edge to the left to get the third and last X Plate of this stage.

The boss here is the train itself. You'll have to destroy the engine in the center of the train to stop the supply flow. You can use crouching optic blasts to destroy it in mere seconds. There are missile pods that come out of the higher part of the train, as well as a small cannon on the right side of the train that pumps out mines, but if you stand next to the center and destroy the engine as quickly as possible, you won't have to worry about them at all.

The mine shooter can be destroyed to make everything easier, as can the missile pods. There is also a guy on a jetbike shooting at you, but if you're at the lower part of the train, he can't hurt you. Along with the plane in the Gambit stage, this is technically one of the easiest bosses in the game.

Wolverine Stage

NAME: WOLVERINE
REAL NAME: Logan
HEIGHT: 5' 3''
WEIGHT: 195 lbs.
MUTANT POWERS: Possesses the powers of superhuman senses, agility, and adamantium claws. (Not Featured in Game: Regenerative Powers)

ATTACKS:

SLASH - Y
UPPERCUT - Up+Y
RUNNING CLAW - Forward, Forward, Y
JUMPING SLASH - (In Air) Y
BERSERKER - Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Y
FLYING BERSERKER - (In Air) Down+Y
WALL CLIMB - Jump towards wall, Can slash upwards with Y

Wolverine breaks through one of the windows and enters a restricted area of the Sentinel factory...and a whole bunch of Genoshan Magistrates show up as a result.

Despite having them in the series (and in other games, like Wolverine: Adamantium Rage, you won't be able to heal yourself with Wolverine's Omega Healing in this game.

The mini-boss is a brown robot. When it flashes yellow, get away from it to avoid its stomp attack. It also shoots at what's in front of it with a missile launcher, but if you criss-cross it with dash attacks, you'll be good.

The first X Plate is in mid-air. You'll have to climb up to the platform with the grenadier in order to reach it. To do that, just jump toward the platform wall and Wolverine will immediately grapple on. For the second one, climb on what looks like the spinal column for a Sentinel and go to the top so the pieces fall off. Fall off of it when you're at the top, move to the right, then do a Flying Berserker to the left so you can latch onto the left wall and not die. If you climb downward, you'll find the third and last X Plate.

The boss is a giant sentinel that shoots eye beams at you. Criss-cross the head with Hyper Berserkers so you can take out both the head and the Genoshan Magistrates that come out of the sides. This one's over.
