PrinceWatercress plays Looney Tunes in Carrot Crazy - Part 1 of 5

Don't let the licensed property attached to the game fool you: this game isn't easy.

This game is known as Bugs and Lola: Operation Carrot Patch outside of America.

The Hard difficulty gives no in-game hints and gives all the enemies twice as much health as they do on Easy. We're playing on Easy.

The game begins with Bugs and Lola finding out that all of their carrots are gone. They immediately head to Warner Bros. Studios to find out who may be doing this.

You'll then be on the stage select. Use Left and Right on the Control Pad to move around. If a yellow arrow with the word "IN" is above a world and another Looney Tunes character happens to be in that area, you can enter it by standing in front of it and pressing Up on the Control Pad. The first one you'll be able to enter is the island world with Yosemite Sam in it.

Treasure Island: Scene 1

Controls are pretty simple. Left and Right let you look around, Down lets you crouch, A lets you jump and B lets you attack. If you press Select, you can switch between Bugs and Lola. Believe it or not, both characters play a little different and can do things that the other character cannot.

In the status bar at the bottom of the screen, you'll see how much health you have, how many letters of the word "EXTRA" that you have, how many clapboard pieces you have, the number of lives you have, the amount of carrots you've collected and your current score.

The carrots fill the carrot gauge at the bottom. Besides providing bonus points at the end of a scene, they also do something else. If you hold A, Bugs and Lola will try to grab at the air for a second in an attempt to hover. The more carrots you have, the more height you'll get on the hover. You'll need to collect all the carrots you see to get over a wall at a certain point near the end of the scene. There are 32 carrots in every scene.

If you jump into the barrel, you can hold Left or Right and keep pressing A to row to the other side. If you need to grab something above you, just jump straight up with just the A button.

The cannon tilts back and forth, but if you press B when it is at the right angle, you can shoot yourself to where you want to go.

If you see Yosemite Sam, jump over the bullets from his gun and hit him with your attack. He comes back eventually, so watch out.

The clapboards give you one of the four pieces of the clapper for the scene. Collect all four to go to the next scene.

Tweety will be in several places in the stage carrying items. Sometimes they will be hearts to refill your health with, but he also carries all of the letters for the word "EXTRA." If you collect all of the letters, you'll get a dynamite tossing mini-game at the end of the scene. Be quick if you see him; he will fly away.

Lola has the ability to float downwards with an umbrella if you hold A after hovering while playing as her. This lets you float safely to lower areas, and you'll want to get used to using this ability early, because fall damage exists in this game and you will immediately lose a life if you fall way too far down.

The fat flashing carrot allows you to fly for a certain amount of time. When you start flashing, the ability is about to run out, so get to land quickly!

You can move the bulging treasure chest to the right to get over a wall. You must be Bugs to move the chest; Lola isn't strong enough to get it to budge.

The green parrot drops cannonballs, but can easily be defeated with Bugs' hammer or Lola's rolling pin.

Use Lola's umbrella to float down to the end, or else you will die. If you die at any point, you'll be kicked back to the beginning of the level. There are no checkpoints in this game, which makes dying awful later in the game.

EXTRA Mini-game

If you get all the "EXTRA" letters, you'll be able to play this mini-game after clearing the current scene. Press B to get "Get Ready!" off the screen so you can play the game.

Line up the hand Bugs is using to carry the dynamite with your target, then hold down and release A to throw the dynamite. The carrot meter in the lower-right corner will act as a power gauge for this mini-game. If the target is behind the yellow wall, just tap A. If it's behind the orange wall, hold A until the carrot gauge is filled up halfway before releasing A. If it's behind the red wall, you'll have to fill it all the way up before releasing A. If you hit all the targets before a single one disappears, you'll get an extra life. Since getting lives in this game is somewhat hard, you'll need all the lives you can get.

Treasure Island: Scene 2

Shortly after the beginning, you'll find the picture of a shovel above an arrow pointing down near some darker-colored ground if you're playing on the Easy difficulty. This is your cue to switch to Bugs, stand on the darker ground (cracked ground on later levels) and press Down. Only Bugs can dig into the ground and move to the other side; Lola does not have this ability. Use Left and Right while underground to move, then press Up to get out of the ground when you're on the other side. Interestingly, there is a 1-Up above this area. Just shoot to the left after that area with a cannon and hold the Control Pad left to get to it. Make sure Tweety doesn't fly away with it.

Some open treasure chest contain Hassan Pfeffer (the "Hassan Chop!" guy from "A-Lad-In His Lamp"). Duck to avoid the rock he throws, then move in and attack him.

You'll have to go underground for two of the clapper pieces. At the area with the three carrots directly above the water near the end, you can just hover all the way to the other end and get the final clapper piece from there.

The Galleon

Every boss stage in the game has a chase sequence. You'll have to avoid the boss while avoiding obstacles, grabbing the EXTRA letters and making your way to the end where you fight the main enemy of the set one last time.

Here, you'll be heading left to avoid Yosemite Sam and his pirate ship. Collect the carrots while grabbing the EXTRA letters.

If you see a TNT barrel, jump over it to the next raft.

There are solid platforms throughout the chase sequence. If Sam's ship runs into them, you had better be ready to jump to another platform before the platform he just hit disappears on you.

Sometimes, Sam's ship will move further to the left, forcing you to the far left of the screen. Stay there until he backs off. Thankfully, you won't have to deal with much else while this is going on.

If any parrots show up to drop cannonballs, attack them. If Sam shoots cannonballs out of the cannons of his ship, jump over them.

If you see a red shark below you, treat it like you would the TNT. Be ready to jump to the left to another raft or platform, because it will eat the raft if the raft is directly above its fin.

After grabbing the A, you'll have to make a leap of faith at the left end of the solid brown platform to the left to reach another platform. You'll have to do this twice while dealing with three parrots to make it to the end. By the time you're at this part, Sam's ship will be creeping up towards you, leaving you with less room to maneuver near the end of the chase sequence.

When you somehow make it to the end, you'll have to fight Sam...who moves and attacks like he did in the first two scenes. The only thing is, he has multiple hit points. Hit him with the B button, then move away and jump over his projectile. (If you've been playing on Hard, you'll be used to this by now.) Keep doing this until he dies, and jump over him if he tries to corner you. Once you've beaten this boss battle, congratulations! You've learned how to fight all of the other ones!

You'll then get a password for completing the first level.
